Just a vent..... my Medical Terminology teacher keeps saying larNyx............ it's larYnx...... It's making me crazy...... she also said dypSnea today for the oral spelling part of our test.... it's dySpnea..... I'm sure someone spelled it the way she said it and they'll get it wrong. End of vent.... you can now return to your regularly scheduled topics.

maybe she's dyslexic?

i feel your pain though. i had a latin teacher that used to say "labby-rinth" instead of "lab-er-inth." :p

Reminds me of a friend of mine...she pronouces erythromycin as; Urethramyacin! Drives me batty! I always say to her...honey, you don't want that up your Urethra!

You should ask her to pronounce the word "centimeter" for you. The majority of medical professionals that I met like to pronounce it "sahn-tih-meter". Funny thing is that every engineer that I've ever met pronounces that same word "sehn-tih-meter".

It bothers me when people say Foy- ER instead of Foy- yay.

My next door neighbor says pacific instead of specific and fontoon bed instead of futon.

there is NO *R* in WASH or Washington

minor pet peeve of mine! ;)

I used to have an editor who used "prostrate" instead of "prostate." She even corrected MY correction on that word (health-related article)!!!

I don't think she's dyslexic Caity.... even if she were.... she could still PRONOUNCE the word correctly.... especially because she keeps explaining to US that 1 missed letter or mispronounced word- could mean life or death for a patient. She's very nice, and I'm learning a lot.... but this DRIVES ME CRAZY.

More that bug me...... Liberry.... Febuarry..... fustrated..... birfday

I had an aquaintance who was telling me about a wedding she and her husband were invited to. It was a Vietnamese wedding. She kept saying Vietmanese. I was having a hard time keeping a straight face while she was talking (which she can do, non-stop) Her husband was standing there, and he knew she was saying wrong, and he is the kind of guy that it would bother. She just kept saying it over and over again.

I said this on another thread: it's wolf not woof, and picture not pitcher. Wolfe camera did a lot of advertising on the station that aired the Rockies games, and the baseball announcer always said Woof Camera. It drove me crazy. Someone must have said something, because this year he had it right, every time.

I can accept kinDEgarten or kindERgarten but absolutely NOT
kinDEEgarten.

Makes me feel better to hear these things bother others, too! ;)

How about "punkin" when it should be "pumpkin". And I have a co-worker who says "yous" when she's speaking to a group and "documentated" instead of "documented"!

Sooo glad I'm going on vacation...I'm getting grouchy!!! ;) :p

Also... it's not La-tee it's La-Tay... grrraarrrr

....who would use the words Rev-ih-nate and sa-fear.

ANY GUESS's?????

Mispronunciations of Nuclear (as new-cue-ler) and jewelry (as jew-ler-ee) drive me batty

My DH says Pacific for specific! I ask him why he is speaking of an ocean!

lisajl
P.S. my mom is from WV she always says Warshington and warsh the clothes. She also says Hawaiiyah. DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!

Here's another;

Sangwich or Samwich for Sandwich!

I went to a dessert meeting at church the other night. Our music minister is from Australia, so he butchers words a lot. He was singing a the song, "I could only Imagine" as a solo. He'd sing the line, "or in awe of You be still" and tt came out, "or in awrr of You be still." It just wasn't the same. I kept giggling throughout the song. It's weird, he omits r's where words end in r (i.e. future comes out futcha), but adds r's to words ending in "a" or the "a" sound. I love him, but it's funny.

PandyPaws, I have another jewelry pet peeve. I can't stand it when people pronouce it jew-ree. The first time I heard that I couldn't understand what the lady was saying at all.

Another pet peeve is library. My mom was the school librarian when I was growing up. Every time we went to the store, some kid would point at her and yell, "Look Mom! That's my libary teacher!"
