Miscarriage Question

I didn't really have any cramping with either miscarriage. This is a question for your doctor though. Hopefully your doctor is like mine. He knows I was super paranoid and keeps saying there is no such thing as a stupid question when you're pregnant. In fact, at 11 weeks he was having a hard time finding the heartbeat. He saw I was freaking out a bit and he took me to the ultrasound machine and did a quick ultrasound to "ease my mind" (his words).

Stay away from google....and for sure ask you doctor...no matter how crazy you think it makes you sound. It's important that you're comfortable and feel as secure as possible!

I started spotting with both my miscarriages way before cramping, but its different for everyone.

I had a lot of cramping early on with my current pregnancy especially up until 8ish weeks.

Please call your doctor if you have any concerns. I'm sure they'd rather you call than have you worry especially if you are high risk (my doctor wants me to call with absolutely any question or concern I have b/c of my previous miscarriages).

I totally understand overthinking everything so much more now that you've had losses. I'm a spazz and for a few weeks was calling my doctor almost everyday!

I had spotting and light cramps during the first trimester of both my pregnancies. After the first trimester, I never had either symptons again, during either pregnancy.

I would say that if the cramps become increasingly more severe and you start to spot, to contact the doctor.

OP_I can understand the comfort of asking here but this is a CALL THE OB question. Every pregnancy and every miscarriage is unique o the person. I had only bleeding and no cramps with the first then cramps and lots of bleeding (ended up passing out) with the second. When i was PG with DD I had cramps only the first three weeks and the were very light. Give yourself piece of mind and call the dr. Not sure how you know you are high risk for miscarriage but if you truly are :CALL YOUR DR. PLEASE!

I agree with the posters here...though it's nice to have the opinions of 'friends' here...an OBGYN can really put your mind at ease safely!!

I'm really sorry about the loss of your son.:sad1:

Are you feeling any better cramp wise?

Yikes! I want preface this by saying that I did ask for advice. I considered putting in my original post that if you were going to tell me to call my OB that you didn't need to comment, but I didn't. I'm now wishing I did. Obviously, if I thought anything was actually wrong, I would call my doctor immediately. But as I stated, I just needed someone to confirm what I already knew. I felt better after someone said, yes some cramps are normal. I'm sure everyone has had a thought that they couldn't stop thinking until someone (anyone) said that it was an okay thing.

As for the person who asked/doubted my high riskness (totally made that word up). I know that I'm high risk because of extensive genetic testing. My body is fine and does its job while I'm pregnant. The baby would be the issue. Without getting into it too much, my son had massive heart problems and some brain problems as well due to a chromosomal abnormality. We were given a percentage of our risk of miscarriage. Its high. I can't imagine that anyone would say they were high risk without being told that by a doctor.

I haven't an an ultrasound or appointment yet because there isn't anything that the doctor would be able to tell from that information because its a genetic thing. I will have testing in the future to determine whether or not the pregnancy will be continued. And before you start your flame throwers, I really urge you to put yourself in my shoes and imagine what it would be like to watch your baby die. After you do that, if you still want to flame me, then go ahead.

Thank you to those of you who were nice and put my mind at ease!:)

Honestly, I don't know why people insist you call your doctor. If you are having a m/c, or will m/c, there is absolutely nothing they can or will do in the first trimester. Later on in the pregnancy, yes, but at this stage, the m/c is because the fetus is not viable. One in four pregnancies results in m/c.

You did get a lot of good information regarding cramping - it could be something, it could be nothing, it's basically a wait and see for the first 12 weeks.

Wow. :confused3

OP- I had a CVS done at 10 1/2 weeks. PM me if you have any questions.

Because it's better to know than not know and because that is not always true.

A friend of mind had cramping and bleeding when she was just over 2 months. turned out she had a partial placental abruption and was put on strict bed rest. of course it could have gone either way... luckily it went her way and things are OK now and the baby is growing quickly and is just fine in there.

So... that's why people insist you call your doctor :) because sometimes it's not "just" a miscarriage... it could be somthing else. also could be nothing but sometimes peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold lol.

But I also just read the post where the OP asked not to be told to call the OB so I guess it's a moot point lol

100% agree! Nothing a Dr. can do at this stage. I had cramps and spotting during all my pregnancies. I have 4 kids now. Prayers for ya.

As others have said the best thing to do is call your doctor. When I had my miscarriage I had cramps and bleeding. When I got pregnant again shortly after I was thrilled until I started cramping and bleeding at around 4 1/2 months in Disney World of all places!!! Got home, went to the doctor and everything was ok. My "Disney" baby is now 22, graduating from College next week and has been accepted to one of the world's best University's for his Master's. So, things can work out just fine. BUT, as I said before, please call your doctor.

Good luck and God bless.

I think when people are suggesting to call your Dr they really mean for peace of mind..not to alarm or suggest there is a problem. "When in doubt-check it out"?

That said..there is pelvic congestion in pregnancy that can 'feel' a little crampy...

I had spotting and cramping with my 2nd pregnancy. In fact-an ultrasound at 8 weeks told me there was no heartbeat and they scheduled a D&C. My OBGYN suggested another U/S 2 days later...I really wasn't keen, but went along with it. He said he had seen 'stranger things happen'. Next U/S there was a heart beating away and that young lady having completed University and Grad school now happily lives in Mahatten working for Armani at 24! So...I am sure all will be well for you too!

Deep breaths! Keep us posted?

Pelvic congestion? Who knew?

So far no cramping today:yay:

I'll keep you posted. I still have twelve days (not that I'm counting) until my first appointment, a few weeks after that for the testing, and a few weeks after that for results.

I agree - I used to mod a pregnancy board, and every question was met with 2 dozen "call you OB" or "get to the ER immediately!" There is nothing wrong with asking questions of moms who have been there. I panicked because of cramping and light spotting during my first pregnancy, spent a weekend taking it easy in bed, and everything was perfectly fine. I prefer as little medical intervention as possible with pregnancy and birth, so a lot of what I did was wait and see what happens. If I was worried that something was too out of the ordinary, I would call my midwife.

I know...I used to get it all the time..a heaviness associated with it as well...

Those little babies do some messing around with our bodies for sure!;)
