We are planning to stay at the AKL 1/1 - 1/5. Myself (DW), DH and DS 6 and DS 4. Here are a few questions:

1. Is this a good time of year? We picked it b/c kids don't start school back until 1/6 and value season starts 1/1. Will the animals still be out and about with the lower temperatures? How crowded will it be?

2. We want to get 2 connecting savannah view rooms. Will they give me the "we can't guarantee connecting rooms" speech? And if so, how risky is this without a guarantee? Do they have connecting king rooms?

3. Does anyone know where I can get an AKL resort map showing all the individual rooms with room numbers and which ones connect? I have the general resort map already.

Thanks in advance.

I do not know about the map.

As for the connecting rooms, we have stayed at the AKL 6 times and find them to be more helpful than most front desk operations. I can't beleve you'd have much trouble getting a connecting room.

As for the animals, it's always 'hit or miss' but in the cooler weather they are more apt to be out and about than in the really hot summer weather...

Hi whalewatcher,

I too am booked for AKL however in May.

I also requested connecting rooms. I was given the not guaranteed speech, but was told since I have 4 children, that I would get the connecting rooms. they can't separate the parents from the kids.

I'd be curious to see a room map. Never seen that before. If you get one please let me know.

Thanks for the replies.

I've seen what must be a CM map of BC/YC with all the separate rooms. Just thought maybe an AKL CM might have posted one too.

We were at AKL last January 5th-7th. We had connecting savannah view rooms (guaranteed). We requested one queen/bunkbed room and one with two queen beds, and got just that.

We were on the Zebra Trail about midway, facing the Arusha Savannah. It was quite chilly while we were there, and we saw tons of animals from our balconies.

AKL is a beautiful resort - we loved our stay there.

Hope you have a great vacation!

I have seen a map on Deb Will's site, with the room numbers listed. Only thing is, the printing is so small you cannot read the numbers. This weekend while my computer geek DH was home, he enlarged it so that I COULD read the nembers. But I wouldn't know how to tell you to do it. But there IS a map on WDWIG.

We just returned from the AKL, Sept 26-Oct 5, and requested a king room connecting to a 2 queen room. They told us that the king rooms are not available to connect to the queen rooms, but we could connect a queen to a queen

We had room 5517(deluxe savannah) and it was great. We had animals every day

jdk - Do you know if they have two connecting king rooms?

I wonder if you could have gotten connecting king and queen standard-size rooms since there are a lot more standard rooms than the deluxe and maybe more choices? We were going to get connecting standard rooms. Do you think it was worth the extra $ for the deluxe rooms?

Thanks everyone for your input!!!

For us it was worht the extra money. We had a 1yr DS with us and the extra 4 ft you get in the room was perfect for the crib

I do need to point out that we received an excellent price due to the POFQ rellocation. We only paid 150 a night including tax for the deluxe

Any questions please ask
