Miramax possibly leaving Disney

Interesting...since Roy Disney isn't too hip on Miramax, in a way it give Roy what he wants. Should the current Disney board try to keep Miramax? Some Miramax films make $$, other are losers, as with any studios releases. Truly, I doubt it would have a significant impact either way.

Another oddity of the financial world, there are those that thought Comcast would be good for Disney, that Comcast would sell off Miramax if they took control of the company, now it seems Comcast is courting Miramax...lending legitimacy to those that thought Comcast was only interested in Disney for their film vault and having access programming foir their cable systems.

Oh what a tangled web.....

Interesting points...

For what it's worth, I think Disney should have worked harder to keep Pixar, and then dump Miramax and ABC. It just seems it would get the company back on track and focus more attention to the theme parks, resorts, etc. I think Miramax moving on would be a good thing...

It seems as if it would (on the surface) be a positive move ingetting Disney a step back towards it's "core" business of famiuly entertainment.

What the ramifications are from a "business" (read $$$) standpoint, it don't know.

If they can get a good price, go for it.

From the story, it doesn't sound like Disney has much to sell. If they don't come to terms, Disney will still own Miramax/Dimension, but without the Weinsteins, what is the value of that company?

They would have the film library, which, though not full of blockbusters, has lots of highly lauded films, plus they would still have the name, which arguable may have some value. But then again, I will go to see a movie because it's a Disney movie, but I won't go see a movie because it's Mirimax... people will see those movies because it's a Kevin Smith or Tarantino movie... and those guys will probably follow the Weinsteins. So basically, Disney would still have the movie library.

In the "grand scheme", I don't think Miramax fits very well with the direction Disney should be going. Disney may in fact let them go elsewhere, but it won't be for the those reasons.

However, in the past, whenever anyone said Miramax was an example of Disney doing something wrong, they were told they were nuts. Disney NEEDED to make films for everybody.

Seems the tone has changed.

That said, I agree that if this happens, it is not nearly as big a deal as the loss of Pixar.

Disney is not losing Miramax, it may lose the Weinsteins though.

It may be a stretch to believe that they could find new management that could run Miramax as well as the Weinsteins have run it, but it's possible.

Miramax will undoubtedly still be used by Disney, Inc to produce films that aren't 'Disney', just like Touchstone, etc.
