Minor vent--snarky WDW-Dine CM

Just got off the phone with WDW_DINE. I'm trying to move up my CM reservation on DD's birthday in January. We have one now, but having booked the Wishes cruise, I'd rather get an earlier one and have a little breathing room.

So, as I've been doing, I called today looking for a cancellation. Spoke to a gentlemen whose name I won't name. Told him what I wanted--date, party size, CM dinner. He told me the earliest he has is 7:20pm. I said no thanks, I have an earlier reservation than that, but was hoping to make it a little earlier. His reply, "Not gonna happen, ha, ha." What?! That seemed a little rude to me! Whatever, I wasn't going to get all wound up about it.

Then he continues, "That restautant is always completely booked 90 days in advance." Really? According to my calendar DD's bday is less than 30 days away, but you still have the same 7:20pm reservation for a party of 5 that's been open for the last two weeks?! I bit my tongue. He continues, "Well, I don't know how much earlier you want, since CM doesn't open until 5:30pm." Really? Ok, I haven't been there in almost two months, but in my recollection, CM always opens at 5pm. Bit my tongue again. Thanked him and got off the phone.

Just a little venting here. It's bad enough if you're going to be rude, but rude and ignorant really gets under my skin. Of course, DD is home with the throw-up virus, so my skin is pretty easy to get under today anyway.

Thanks for listening!

If you have a problem with a CM being rude, ask to speak to a supervisor. In this case, I probably wouldn't have, I'd have called back and spoken with someone else. But if you get someone who is rude, let guest services know. At the same time, if someone is great - ask to be transferred to the compliment line. It will go in their record and make their day.

I didn't know there was such a thing! I'll do that the next time I call. I've gotten some really nice people in the past. :flower:

Yes - it used to be that you'd talk to guest services (I've in the past, waited a half hour to compliment someone!) Now, they can just transfer you to voice mail. It is really convenient, and the CM's appreciate it - I know, because I've worked at DRC, and it can really make their day. I work as a TA now, and I often will leave a compliment. Thankfully, it's probably been over a year - maybe two, since I've left anything negative - the CM has to be pretty bad for me to do that.

You know the DIS Golden Rule. Call back and get a better CM! I wouldn't take his word that the restaurant is sold out after he told you things you know are wrong.

Also, be careful when interpreting what people say. Sometimes what sounds to us as snark is just the speaker being chatty/socialable. Folks who are truly maliciously inclined towards the guests don't last long at Disney.

Some have lasted a while, but Disney seems to have weeded the obnoxious/rude ones out a lot better lately. If someone is genuinely rude, then definitely a supervisor should be told. A little sarcastic/snarkey, etc. - I give them the benefit of a doubt.

I really like giving positive reinforcement the best, though. The DRC job is a tough one - it was hard when I was there, it's a lot more pressure now. The agents I speak with are always delighted to get a compliment, and I really want to try to ensure that the best agents stick around as long as possible.

funny the compliment line should come up here... i, too, had an incompetent male cm on the dining line today and after he was completely clueless about magical gatherings (even though i called the 1-407-wdw-magic #) i asked to be transfered to someone that could help me/give me mg info and voila! he transfered me to the compliment line... i hung up! LOL!
