Minnie's Silver Screen Dine!

We've done it twice this year. Once for the Star Wars overlay and again at Christmas. Other than Stitch at o 'Hana this is the best character interaction by miles. Donald there is a hoot! Food sucks but as long as you are resigned to tater tots and amazing characters it worth doing once.

Well, I'm not really okay with food that sucks. We are two adults and to pay $65 or more pp just doesn't cut it solely for character interaction (if I had young kids at the cheaper price, I might suck it up, much like Chef Mickeys which I do not enjoy at all). I saw a review that said the food was very good. Can you expand on your food critique lol?

There is a picture of Minnie in her dress.......

Here it is.....we'll find out soon if it the same dress she wears

Look at Mickey's shark skin suit! He looks like he should be named Mickey the Goodfella! Lol

HAHA...I don't think it could be as bad as Chef Mickey and honestly given most food in DHS sucks I'm not expecting much and we are a party of adults there for the characters.
It amazes me what trash people will eat and feed their kids but hey.....whatever....I love a good character interaction :D

I dunno. Only done Chef Mickey for breakfast so no direct comparison but I would pick Mickey!

I don't ever plan to go back to Chef Mickey it's that bad. It's true it's harder to mess up the breakfast and if someone else was paying I would go to the breakfast...but you couldn't pay me to have a dinner at Chef Mickey...it's disgusting...

I am sad that I will miss the Silver Screen dine option - my future trips are during the Springtime and Summertime dine periods. I went to the Holiday Dine with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I like pretty basic food, and NO seafood, and found plenty to eat - especially the meatballs (IIRC). The only thing I was disappointed in was the decorations. I will definitely do this again!

We went last night. Overall it was good but I am not sure I would say it is worth the cost. We did the Fantasmic option - seats for that were good. We thought the food was very good. The buffet is adult oriented and certainly includes more elaborate items than you usually find on a buffet. We tried most of the items and liked most of them. The only main item I didn't like was the pork loin - it was too spicy for us. The salads were also good and a step above. Didn't see any popcorn soup. We were a little disappointed in the desserts - they were mediorce. The Christmas ones definitely looked better. The one item we wished they had was fruit. There was little to none of that. The character interaction was just ok for us. We had to sit around to get 2x in. Their outfits were ok but no where near as nice as the Christmas ones. There was little theming in the restaurant itself..the only thing you get as a gift is a coaster sized card with the character signatures on the back. I did see Daisy sign an autograph for a child next to us (although they tell you at the beginning no autographs.). I am glad we did it once but I can't say it is worth the steep price (always the question at Disney!). I can say that it is definitely better than Chef Mickey's!

Our family went for Minnie's Holiday Dine and the food was outstanding as far as buffets go. Seriously - I am NOT a fan of buffets, but I was really impressed with the variety and quality of everything on the adult buffet. If I had one complaint, it would be the lack of choices on the children's buffet. Specifically, my kids would have liked some fresh fruit, but I knew ahead of time that fruit wasn't one of the choices. I would definitely consider returning in the future. Also, the characters were GREAT! Everyone came by our table 4 or 5 times.

On the menu that they have listed they don't specify that there is a childs buffet and adult buffet.. So can your child not eat off of the adult buffet?

Anyone can eat off either buffet. The child buffet is only shorter so a kid could possibly pick out their own food.

Yes, exactly! And the children's buffet featured things that an average child might like - mac and cheese, tater tots, etc., but my son is all about fruit, so he didn't eat much the night we were there. At breakfast buffets, I always head to the children's buffet because that's where you usually find the Mickey waffles, LOL! But anyone can either off of either buffet.

Kevin & John did a review of this meal on a recent episode of the DIS Unplugged podcast. You can find it on YouTube.

After that video we switched. We are now doing mama melroses. I'm sorry but that food looked gross. I'm also disappointed that Minnie isn't in a gown. She isn't as dressed up as the other characters. I'm not upset we won't get to eat there. I actually can't wait for mama melroses

Fast forward to about 51 min in. So bad looking. Swanson dinner

So funny because last time we were at Mama Melrose we said we'd never go back because we thought it was the equivalent of microwaving a Lean Cuisine. If we eat Italian on property now, it's Via Napoli or Tutto - but everyone has different tastes.

We really enjoyed the Silver Screen Dine. Our character interactions were top notch. I had low expectations for the food but we actually enjoyed it.

Is there better food on property? Yes. Is it mass prepared buffet food? Yes.
But the quality was much better than other buffet character experiences like Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's dinner. It's expensive because it's a character experience. I'm a food lover, but Mama Melrose is so mediocre Italian to me, I don't think it's worth dumping the characters for. For us, we can have an experience like Mama Melrose at home. We can't get Minnie to come to our table.

Just my opinion (not that it matters). I'm not trying to make your decision harder. Just sharing!

I'm on the fence about these two myself. Doing a trip with me and my son who will be 8 first week of December, so it's the Holiday Dine. All of their complaints about it not being a solid theme do not apply to the Holiday Dine as the costumes are really top notch. I find it easier to feed my son at buffets as I can get some protein in him when there is some kind of carved meat (he doesn't do nuggets or baked chicken or anything where he can see seasonings or grill marks or the like). Mama Melrose is an old favorite of mine but... dating an Italian man for the last 5 years and I guarantee what his mom cooks will blow that out of the water. But still it is such a hard decision. I won't be expecting gourmet but the reviews of H&V lately are all just downright contrary. I wonder if the food quality is much better at an earlier seating when it hasn't had time to sit out as much. I appreciate this perspective very much and for me, my trip is about my son and not me getting fried calamari for dinner :)
