I understand there are two vehicle types. Suburbans and Traverses.

The suburbans are quite large and I understand you can request one if wanted.

Question is, has anyone ever put a wheelchair, upright or folded, in a Traverse? Wondering if we can do this or if we have to call and request a Suburban.

Also............. Do you tip the drivers?

Tips are not included in the fare, so yes, please tip the driver.

I believe you can request an HA Minnievan in the app. Someone will offer more guidance on the vehicle type and details!

I can't say for sure but here is a shot of the space in a Traverse.

I'm not current on the vehicle types available now, but a folded wheelchair will fit in a Traverse provided that you don't have 5-6 people. If you have 4 or fewer, the driver can fold down part of the third row seat and there will be plenty of room for the wheelchair. (I have a Buick Enclave, which is the same GM platform.)

SteveH is right -- there is a lot of room, but don't forget that each MinnieVan carries two fullsized child seats, and they are stored in the space pictured above.

The last I heard, you order the regular MinnieVan on the Lyft app, and they were working to get the handicapped accessible vehicles also on the app. I don't know if they have made that transition yet, though.

There's an ADA Lyft Minnie Van that can be ordered by request.

To my knowledge you can’t request a Suburban or a Traverse, unless this is new news that has passed me by.

You can request the larger HA vans per @brett Wyman‘s post above.

There is NO storage in a Traverse with the car seats stored in the back.

yeah there are only two of use so i would think, especally if the third row is folded, you could fit the two car seats and a folded wheelchair in there.

You can request the Suburban but you have to call the phone number for Handicapped accessible rides. I checked the app and there is no option in the app for that.

Yes, plenty of room. You don't need a Suburban. In fact, you'd have plenty of room with 4 people and the wheelchair as long as you didn't also have luggage. The caveat is that the wheelchair person would have to be able to transfer comfortably to the car. It is a bit of a step up.

You can also get LyftXL, UberXL, or the new Uber Comfort -- any of which would probably be somewhat less expensive than MinnieVan. The MinnieVan is $15 + $2.75 per mile.

Any of the XLs would easily accommodate you, and most of the Uber Comfort vehicles would also.

Except I don't believe they will fold the 3rd row. Reports on the disABILITIES Forum have varied, but generally if you can fit the folded wheelchair between the seat rows, and still seat your passengers, they will take the wheelchair. They have also refused to install the child seats if not needed simply to make more room in the cargo space. Now...maybe a rogue CM will do something to help, but apparently not by standard policy.

Enjoy your vacation!

Really? Wow. That's an incredibly customer-cruel approach and it doesn't sound like Disney to me.

A wheel chair will certainly fit between the second and third rows, but that's a clumsy and dumb place to put it. It's not only inconvenient for both driver and passengers, it increases the likelihood of damaging the upholstery. Dropping all or part of the third row takes literally 5 seconds and makes loading a wheelchair much easier.

If Disney really has that policy, you should advise riders with disabilities to take UberXL or Lyft XL. They'll get much better accommodation and a much lower fare.

That makes perfect sense.

The way to make more cargo space is to drop the third row. Installing unneeded child seats would waste time, split the passengers up, and place some passengers in less comfortable seats. Whoever wanted child seats installed just wasn't thinking things through.

While I haven’t personally had the need to experience this and have not probed a driver on the topic, this is my understanding of things as well. Although I agree YMMV!

I'm just stunned. I drive exactly the same vehicle for Uber and Lyft. My MIL uses a wheelchair, and I've had a number of Uber/Lyft passengers with wheelchairs. Wheelchairs are just no big deal.

It is SO easy to simply drop the third row (or one part of it)! You just lift one handle and push, and then lay the wheelchair down in the large, carpeted cargo area. I'm not exaggerating; it literally takes 5 seconds.

I'm sure they have some reason for their policy, but I have no idea what it is.

I have no experience with this, so I don't know, but postulating:

Perhaps the stowed child seats are secured to the 3rd row seatbacks or the floor of the cargo area, and dropping the seat would cause them to be unsecured or risk damage to the securement mechanism. Or maybe there's just not enough room to move both child seats to one side behind the 3rd row, and they don't want to risk the seat being damaged while floating around in the extended cargo area.

Yeah, that's the only reason I can think of as well, but I'm not sure it's a valid reason

It seems to me that installing one or both child seats in the second row to make room for a wheelchair would certainly be a "reasonable accommodation." I know it's inconvenient, but refusing to do so seems like it could be an ADA violation.

Can you imagine pulling that with Uber, lol??? You'd be permanently deactivated in a heartbeat...and rightfully so.

My MIL drives a Traverse and is able to fit my grandmother's wheel chair (folded) in the back cargo area without putting the third row down. They frequently cart 7 people around, with the chair folded in the back. The only concern I would think would be if you're traveling to or from the airport - there would not be room for luggage in the cargo area, but I would think they could slide luggage onto the third row if needed, since there are only 2 of you.
