Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

I was surprised when doing my packing list how many liquidy things I have....

Also I decided to bring our own bottled water down, not that I don't like the stuf they sell in Orlando, I just don't want to have to make any stops......heading straight to music!!!!!

I'll be in the green group, as long as things go according to planned!

Yesterday was my last 3.5 mile run, 34:99! That's my best time yet. I don't anticipate being able to keep that up for almost 6 more miles, but it made me feel really good.

Tonight I have a bike ride while my feet rest. And Saturday is another 5-miler.

This week my family from Connecticut is coming so I will be pretty quiet until they are gone. Thought it might not be too nice to say "welcome! I'll be back in the computer room if you need me....." :rotfl:

Happy training, all!

It is so exciting that everyone is talking about getting to florida, it is getting so close!! I was going to try to do my LR today instead of tomorrow, but it was so windy out. The first 2 miles were kinda hard, but after we turned around and headed back it was much easier. So I got in a 4 miler today. Will be doing my LR tomorrow. I really hope the weather cooperates because I find the treadmill so boring! I really don't want to do 7 miles on it, stuck in the playroom while my girls watch Peter Pan....

Erica, congrats on the great time!

Robert - I am not receiving any emails and I don't know why (that's another issue). But, I would like to add that I'm unsettled at the way some things are handled with these endurance events. I registered through signmeup when Minnie registration first opened. They've since switched to active.com which charges a fee. Now they're offering a discount?

I got the e-mail...and it does make me a little angry too that now they offer a code...so we get...bad word...for signing up early????

I guess that they aren't getting alot of people registering???

Kinda the opposite of most races we have here, the earlier you register the cheaper it is??? Oh well, I am just glad to be going.

Got a 10K LW tomorrow!!!!

Have a great day all

I was suprised to see that email with the code too! That seems strange to me???

I did 4 miles this morning and it was terrible! It was really humid out today and I just felt yuck (too much Easter Candy:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 ). On a good note, we ran the same exact course as 3 weeks ago and we were almost 30 seconds faster per mile.

The Minnie is coming up so fast, I can not wait!!! We will be in the green group!

I have never seen Disney discount a race. I am agreeing with you that the numbers are lees than they anticapated. I received an email response from someone at Disney(not EMMI) last week regarding the limit on the race and her response was "There is a limit, but at this point we are not near closing out the event. " That's probably it in a nutshell.

I have been doing alot of reading of people's running reports (thanks Robert!) and I am curious about the salt packets. This is so you don't sweat as much or get dehydrated? Does anyone plan to use these for the Minnie? I am wondering if I should do this.

Also, got in 7 miles today!!

I am running the MINNIE for the AT Children's Project and Aletia told me that Disney is EXTREMELY disappointed with the numbers, they expected a MUCH bigger turnout.!!

The salt is to help with the dehydration. DH actuallys takes a handful of salt ( and swallows it - EEEEWWW) before we do long runs and it actually helps him. I chose to use the gels halfway through long run that have a lot of electrolytes in them. I don't know about using them at MINNIE, although it is going to be very warm and humid, I can gaurantee that!! :headache:

Maybe other people will jump in and add their 2 cents about this, because I think it is all about what works for you. Hope this helps a little

I take Endurolytes which are electroylte capsules for races in heat. I take 1-2 every hour to prevent me from getting hypotranima. That is when you have too much water and not enough sodium in your blood. People have died at marathons because of this. It is harder to have happen in shorter races. If you drink a eclectrolyte drink at every aid station you should be fine.

Yeah, my problem is I can't stand powerade or gatorade, etc. Where do you buy these capsules? Do you have a hard time getting them down while running?

Ok, so do the gels do the same thing? where can I find them? Thanks again for all the help for this newbie :scared:

Becky

I am the same way so I pack my own Cytomax drink powder with me during races.

You can get Endurolytes at bike stores or at their website http://www.e-caps.com .

Gels are also good but test them on long runs to make sure they don't cause you stomach issues:( You can get those at any outdoor(REI), running/biking store, and even some grocery stores. Hammer Nutrition(who makes Endrolytes) sells them also. Cliff, Power Bar, Gu, and others make them also.

Does anybody remember- on the course, is the powerade in bottles or cups? What about the water? Just planning.

Of course today I had to pack (and then unpack since I use this stuff daily) my carry on to see if my race stuff would fit. I thought that was funny, but I just needed to know!

Yes, I agree with Robert to test the GELS on LR. We use the Power Bar Gels - STRAWBERRY BANANA - flavor (YUM!!:thumbsup2 ) - OH yeah, we get them at WAL MART!! But they are kind of an odd consistency and gross some people out. But whatever you find that works for you will help A LOT!!! I saw a huge difference in our LR's (my endurance, not getting worn out from the heat) when I started using the GELS

By the way.

Just came back from my attempted 4 mile run!!!:scared1: Let me tell you, it is hot here already. Now I have to report that I did do a BodyPump class (weightlifting) at the gym this morning and I lifted pretty heavy - for me- oh yeah, then I baked in the sun at the beach for 2 hours:cool2: - POOR ME - right?

But the heat kicked my but, I only did 3 miles, walked 1 and now I am sitting here, trying not to be sick!!!
