Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Lexxiefern - welcome to the thread!!

I'm running the race alone. To tell you the truth, I can only think of 3 races I have done where I've run with someone else, and I actually prefer being on my own. Mind you, I like having friends at the start and finish line!! But otherwise races are great places to meet people since so many runners are so friendly.

BTW Angie, I know we still have about 5.5 weeks to go until the race, so this may be planning ahead a bit early, but what time should I meet you before the 15K? I know you mentioned you like to get there early and I'm with you on that!

EEWW good question had not even thought about that yet and that just shows how much I have on my plate, normally I am obsessive about planning this stuff months ahead. The races we have done we seem to get there rediculously early - that's what DH says - I think he would rather be in hotel room sleeping. I will think about it and you let me know what you think.

BTW FOR ALL THE MINNIES OUT THERE - We are staying at PO and I will have an SUV and will be glad to take up to 7 people to race!!! If anyone wants in, just let me know.

Thank you for all the welcomes!!

Jen - I agree, I definately want my DH and kiddos to be at the finish. And what a great idea about a poster! I have a 6 year old DD, I am sure she would love to do that!

Carrie - I definately want to run the 5k and I am training to see if I can do the 15k as well. I am really trying to get my sister to fly down and do this too, but her in-laws will be visiting for 2 weeks. I am really hoping she can get away for a few days, but I don't think it is going to fly.

Angie - Congrats on all your runs this past year!! Are you going to do RFTT this year as well? I just booked a studio at SSR for that weekend, because I really want to do that one too. Are you going to wear a Wish shirt? If not, how will everyone recognize eachother? It would be wonderful to meet up with some of you!

Leana - thanks for the boost of confidence that I can do this alone! Maybe if I spend enough time talking with you ladies here, then I will be able to do it.

Question, does the registration fill up ahead of time for the minnie? I don't want to miss out, but I am not 100% yet, so I don't want to register.
Thanks!

Becky--If you look in my siggie, the WISH T-shirts look something like the logo in bright neon green. We are also meeting on Sat. for an early dinner at Earl of Sandwich at DTD and then we're also planning on going to Jellyrolls on Sunday night! Just look for the lime green!

Angie--What pace are you planning on running?? You can always run with DH and me!

Angie- you convinced me. I'll get DH and the kids to come watch-- I'm thinking if they see the excitement at the end, maybe they'll be a little more supportive of me having to actually run to prepare for the races! Let's just say I'm having some issues getting out to do long runs-- not so bad now, but I'm worried about Goofy...

Carrie- the bridge is the Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, GA. That's the 5k my daughter and I did. It was so funny-- she started off talking trash- "is it ok if I leave you behind?" type stuff- then I had to drag her (and I mean DRAG) the whole way back across. I thought I had totally ruined her for running, but she does strut in her T-shirt, so we'll see. LOL

Lexxiefern- I'm new to the group too so I don't have any WISH stuff. I signed up for a hat and a visor but don't know the status of the order. Don't they still have those little rubber bracelets at Disney? Emma picked up some awhile back- maybe they have green?

Here are my crazy thoughts now-- "which water belt thing do I get? how annoying is the belt that's bigger with more space to carry stuff? do I take my cell phone and where? do I take a camera too or just use my cell camera? oh, and where do I put it? where do I work in some lime green? AND most importantly, do I put on some Minnie sunglasses, earrings, etc?" And those are just my wardrobe concerns!! I actually dreamed that I was going to the race and couldn't find the start! :scared1:

It's a miracle I get anything done.;)

Good morning all and welcome to all newbies..

What a great group of people you have all joinned, they are so supportive and although you may not be running/walking with your family you certainly won't be alone you have all your new friends right there with you. Just look for the lime green shirts.

Went out for a 4K walk last night and my shins are killing me again, only about the first 2 or 3 K then they are fine but wow during that time I almost have to give up. DD walked with me for the first time last night and I couldn't keep up with her, she is taller then me so her stride was much longer. I may have to trip her during the run so she doesn't pass me...:lmao: j/k. She will kick my butt but that is OK I am just looking to finish. We did 4K in 33:37 mins, that is almost a full minute quicker then when DH comes with me.....lol

Getting prepared for my first 10K this Sunday I am so excited, If I can figure out how to do it I will post a photo of me and DH with our medals....

Oh the water belt thing, I bought one that is like a fanny pack and can fit a normal size water bottle and when DD convinced me to jog up a hill yesterday I found it riding around on me....I probably could have tightened it but for walking it is fine.

5 weeks today I am on holidays!!!!!! Short holidays but I will be in Disney so all is good.

have a great day all.

Kim

You guys, I am so excited!! Between Minnie and the marathon weekend in January it now makes sense for my mom and I to get an annual pass! Which means that makes Minnie 2008 practically a given since we'll want to get one last use out of them before they expire.

May 2-4, 2008.....I'll pencil it in on my calendar!:dance3:

Training is going really well. I got 4.5 miles in yesterday afternoon. Thursday will be a 3 miler, then Saturday's long run is 5 miles. I'm so excited about my first trip to Disney World in 9 years.....I can't wait!!!!

Well, I'm in. We were on the fence as to whether to go to WDW in May or somewhere else (heaven forbid) so I was waiting to register. But it turns out some friends of ours will be there the same time as we were thinking about going, so the decision got made for us as we love to spend time w/these people. So I signed up for the race.

I haven't done a distance greater than 8 miles since last year's Minnie (but my average daily walk/run is four miles so I haven't been a couch potato, either) so we'll see how this goes. I probably won't get as good a time as I did last year (last year I had done the goofy and then kept training through the minnie so I was in great shape). But I'm just in it for the fun. And to get me back in the mindset since I'm doing goofy again next year. I'll just train really well with the time I have left and hope for the best. Good luck all.

Just sent a PM about bracelets. I'm so excited!

I think I am going to do my long run (maybe 5-6) on Thursday when the bambino is at Mother's Day Out-- there is a 5k in my neighborhood on Saturday-- how fun to just walk to the park to start!

I picked up a copy of our local newspaper and saw my name in race finishers for the 10k swamp run (the newspaper sponsors the run so there was a big article). I finished 106.... ok, out of I think 112. Still, I actually did a 10k. And one of my friends saw my name and asked if that was me. See, you should either finish at the beginning or the end-- she probably didn't even notice the 100 people in the middle. ;)

It makes the Minnie seem less like a crazy dream and more like a reality. :)

I can't wait to see everyone! (and at some point, I'll put a picture of me on here so you have more to go by than a sweet lime bracelet!)

hoosmi-we are all a little crazy in the head:crazy: The fact that this lazy couch potato has gotten addicted to WDW endurance event is insane but wonderful!!! Yes you can do it & no WISHer will ever be alone. Everyone at the events is friendly! Very easy to strike up conversations on the route. Several people wore Minnie visors and even dresses. Dress up if you want, that makes it more fun & cute pics too.

cnd-gal-eyore-congrats on the AP!

Disneefun-you will not be last & everyone gets the same medal. Dont sweat it & you will do great & have fun. Just keep getting in those steps:thumbsup2

Lexifern-last year registration did not fill up but more people know about it this year so I would register as soon as you can. It has no where the capacity of marathon weekend. I think there were 1700 runners last year.

I am getting so excited. I cant wait to see everyone.!

Ok, so I talked to a friend of mine who works at disney and she said she will do the 5K with me and maybe even the 15k! I am so excited. I just need to book airfare - I am having a really hard time finding anything decent out of boston.

Did I read that there is a discount on registration for DVC members? Do you need to mail it in or can you fax it?

Also, I am going to start running outside since the weather is getting better. Can anyone recommend a good double jogging stroller that won't break the bank?

Sorry for all the questions - I am so excited about doing the minnie!!

Becky

Becky--there is a discount for DVC members. If you go to disneyrunning.com you can find the cast member/DVC member registration form. We mailed ours in--don't remember if you can fax or not

Wow this thread is really heating up! I am also running the 15K solo.:cool1: If anyone runs about a 10 min/ mile pace you can hang with me, otherwise don't wait for me!

We're getting packing for our spring break trip as we leave Thursday! I'm packing my running shoes and plan to run a few days but probably nothing beyond 4 miles/run.

Great training everyone!:thumbsup2

Good morning team!!!!

Well kinda took a rest day yesterday, walked 3K at lunch and my shins where beyond painful so didn't go any further and didn't get out last night. I iced them on and off all night so hopefully I will be OK for tonight.

Hope you all have a great day!!!!

Kim

Sorry I have been MIA, ladies! Swamped at work, but thinking of all of you and looking forward to seeing everyone in 5 1/2 weeks!

Kim -- I know you are having shin splints. I wanted to share with you something that worked for me. Every time I was sitting down, I was stretching my feet/calves. Just constantly flexing my foot. At home or before working out, I'd stand on the edge of the treadmill or on a curb with my toes on the curb and drop my heels below my toes, if that makes sense. Physiologically, I have no idea whether it makes sense, but it really just seemed to help. And recently, when I developed shin splints at the beginning of a TM workout, I stopped the TM and just kept stretching by going up on my toes and then dropping my heels. I slowed my pace considerably and after almost a mile, my shins didn't hurt anymore.

Thanks Cam,

I am taking all the advise I get, I won't be getting out for a walk till tonight so I hope it is starting to get better.

Getting closer....yippeeee:banana:
