Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

Hey all you Minnie people! I'm actually going to get in the Minnie training come Monday--given myself 2 weeks of easy running to recover--now it's time to get serious again. Been having some knee pain--so we'll see if it continues--Crossing my fingers it doesn't

I'm trying to figure out where DH and I should eat Sunday night--we're probably not doing the parks to save on $$$ (that and we'll have just gotten back on April 17th from our WDW vacation;) ) Here's what I've narrowed it down too: Jiko, Citrico's, Artist Point, Cali grill, and the Yachtsman--Anyone have any favs???? We've eaten at Cali. grill and AP before--Just can't decide. But I suppose since I'm going to be calling a little more than a month before--it might be decided for me! Oh, and does anyone attend the post-race party at PI??? We'll be sans-kiddos, so I'm itching to either go to PI or Jellyrolls!

Well, to all those with LR/LWs this weekend, good luck!

Stephanie- We've eaten at the Cali Grill and Citricos. I can't choose one because I really enjoyed both! If you want the view, go for the Grill, but the food at Citricos was just as fabulous.

My suggestion....DH and I did this....go to Mizner's lounge in the GF (opens at 5) and have a drink while listening to the orchestra and then follow with dinner at Citricos. It's something different since you've already done the CG and the sea bass at Citricos was to die for!

That said, you can't go wrong with any of your choices.:)

I'm gearing up for another LR this Monday. Now that the distances are getting longer, I'm getting more anxious for this race to get here!

Hey gang

7 weeks tomorrow. Can you believe it????

I won't be at JR or PI, I will have my DD with me and she is only 14 but hope to meet you all before and after the run. We won't be sticking around long as we have park tickets and want to get every minute out of them.

Hope training is going great for you all.

Kim

Just a thought here--Will they have a dry bag drop for the Minnie like the marathon??? We'll have a car at the finish so no biggie for us--but just wondering for those that will have to be taking Disney Transport back to hotels. If they don't do the dry bag for this race, I will be willing to get dry bags from WISHer's and put them in our rental car on Sat. after the meet at DTD. And then ya'll can get your stuff at the finish.

Question: besides water, what will be available to drink on the Minnie course? I thought I heard yellow powerade was at the Marathon, does anybody remember what's on the Minnie 15K & 5K courses? Thanks!

If I can remember correctly I think there was blue powerade last year???

Sorry, I'm no help on remembering drinks on the course or bag drops, but Stephanie, I wanted to tell you a bunch of us will be at Chef Mickey's Sunday night for dinner -- we want to get character pix with our medals, but won't be in the parks. We figure it's a great way to get a variety of food for eveyrone to find something they'll like AND we'll see MICKEY!!!! :lovestruc

cam--what time are ya'll eating???

Stephanie -- I think our ADR is for 6 pm. IF you are willing to do something totally different from the choices you listed (standard buffet fare, but there's a MOUSE running around the place, which makes it all good!), maybe you coudl make an ADR for there around that time? My philosphy is that if I cant' get into the parks, I MUST ride the monorail and I MUST see that mouse. Can you tell I'm a bit obsessed? If not, just check this out:

cam--I'll definitely run it by DH--we always eat at Chef Mickeys for breakfast with the kids--sounds like fun!!!

Re: Chef Mickey on Sunday.

I tried to make ADRs for DD and myself on Sunday night and the earliest time available was 8PM. So we are headed to the Concourse Steakhouse instead, although maybe I will give WDW a call and see if there has been any changes. CM was DD's first choice.

I can't believe how soon it will be here! I am looking forward to seeing all my WISH friends soon.

Well, Pat is right about CM--except now they don't have anything at all available for dinner. I just got off the phone with the Disney. I went ahead and made a dinner ressie for Concourse Steakhouse for 5:50--so maybe we could all meet up at the Contemp. anyway before dinner.

Nitty gritty planning time here.

Just so I get this right. The race starts at AK and ends at Epcot and you can park your car at Epcot and get a shuttle to take you to AK for the start. Is that correct???? OK if I am right so far what time to the shuttles start running???? I believe the race starts at 6:15?????

OK business done now socializing. How is everyones training going??? I had a set back yesterday, major shin splints. I usually run on the treadmill well yesterday was my first run on the road and I had to stop very shortly after I started....they where killing me. I used old running shoes since we have alot of sand still on the roads.

Can you believe how close this is getting.....I can not wait, it is snowing here again.....I want warm and sun!!!!!

Have a great day all.

Kim

Kim - Buses start at 4:34 am (seems like kind of a random number to me???) and the last bus is at 5:45 am from Epcot to Animal Kingdom. Race start time is at 6:15 am.

I'm sure the running surface and your shoes played a part in why your shins hurt. You have more bounce in a treadmill than on the road, so if your shoes are old and not supportive it can definitely cause shin splints.

Was it you Kim that was debating about doing RFTT instead of the Marathon weekend? If so, what did you and your hubby decide?

6 weeks and two days until we leave for Disney World!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I had a terrible dream this weekend that my mom and I forgot we had tickets to La Nouba so we missed the show, and then we overslept and missed the start of the race! Apparently I'm getting worried already??

Thanks Leana for the info.

Yes, I was trying to decide between the 2, and no we havent' decided. Actually what we have decided is to do the 10K we have coming up in less then 2 weeks and DH has one the following weekend....8K The DD and I do the 15K. Then we will decide if we even like these runs, we have never done one before. If we do then we will think more seriously about it. I prefer Oct just cause there is MNSSHP and Food and Wine....both great reasons to go to WDW.

Thanks for asking.

Kim

Hi there,

I just joined WISH and I am signing up for the Minnie 15k this weekend. I may or may not have a few friends joining me as a team......they're being all wishy-washy. I'm a local, but I'm thinking a 4am wakeup call might be easier to stomach if I stay at one of the resorts the night before. Which one would be best? AKL?

I am about to head out now for my first 3-mile of my training program. Wish me luck! I'll be back often. :yay:

I have the same problem when I go outside for the first time after weeks on the treadmill. I have discovered something that may only be me, but I wanted to share anyway. When I have this problem I slow down, but continue with my distance. After about a mile, things loosen up and I feel fine  I figure it is the same way that other sore muscles also loosen up once they are warm. :confused3

If you try this it is very important that you take it easy to get things to warm up and not overdo. End of "Mom" lecture.
