Minnie Marathon 2007 -- WISH Roster (see post 1 for WISH Meets Info!)

I have good news! My friend Wendy will be doing the 5k with me - she already signed up. She said she didn't think she could do the 15k though :sad2: But I am so happy to not have to do my first race alone!!

Happy training :yay:

Welcome Mill Mickey!!!!!

Becky, glad to hear your friend will be with you, but you know you wouldn't have been doing it alone, you have all of us with you.:grouphug:

How excited are you all, I am going crazy, not being able to train, actually going to see the DR tonight, just to make sure I haven't done any real damage. But I really have to start walking even if it is slowly.

How is everyone else doing......

Kim

Aww, thanks Kim! And I will be looking for all of my WISH friends on sunday for the 15k - that is when I will really need the support!!

I got an email from Minnie! (Actually the Minnie Marathon, but it was exciting to see none the less!)

Did anyone ever answer the taper question that I remember reading a while back? I plan on a modified taper, I read in RW a while back that "runners preparing for any event can benefit from lowering the intensity of their training so the can race feeling rested and refreshed". It said that shorter events don't require that much downtime. That if your weekly mileage is less than 25, take it easy two to three days before the race. (it also said that if you're running a shorter race simply to prepare for another event, it's not necessary to taper. HTH!

I just received an email confirmation from Disney about the Minnie. So my DW & I are officially doing the Minnie double.

If you have not, I have it on my website under the Minnie Marathon.

Leave in 3 weeks and 2 days:banana:

See you all soon:cool1:

Got my e-mail confirmation today too...I can't believe in just 3 weeks and 3 days I will be leaving for DIsney...GOsh I can't wait. I have decided that I need to do a little something as far as traning goes, so I will do whatever my back will allow me to do, and at least that will be something. PLus my DD has off this week for spring break so she can train with me. We are supposed to do the Walk America the weekend before the minnie which is a 5 miler so that will be some more practice and I will see how my back holds out for that...anyway hope everyone else's training is going well

See Ya Real Soon!!!!:earboy2:

3 weeks and a few days!:scared1: Ya'll are giving me anxiety! My LR didn't happen today so I'm praying for a good run tomorrow. *cross fingers*

I feel that my training is so off for this race. I hope I can turn it around and feel my best.

Can't wait to meet you all! Becky, I'm sure we'll be a big group on Saturday. It's my first wish race and first time meeting all these folks too. We can be newbies together.:)

Thanks for the taper information!

I also got the email today too:cheer2: . I must assume we aren't getting a race packet in the mail (which is fine, but I like to pour over the hard copy of the map;) :) :) bummer.)

I printed off a map from Robert's site and check that out every so often. Maybe you could do that.

Happy Monday everyone!

Well, the great Florida weather was uncooperative this evening so I didn't get to do any crosstraining outside. I did some weights and abs instead, but I so wanted to get back outside!

The blisters are feeling 75% better, so I think by my next actual running day (Wednesday) I should be good to go. I'm working on breaking in the new insoles so I have to try and remember to put my old ones back in before I hit the road again......otherwise, disaster! :scared1:

Good luck this week!

OK DD and I got out for a little bit...it was COLD:cold: outside tonight so we didn't go as long as I hoped, but I think we may have gotten in about 1 and a half to 2 miles, which is HUGE for me. My back really started to bother me, but my next appointment with the ortho is tomorrow, so...

Anyway, it felt good to get out and walk, it has been a while...I told DD even if we can just at least walk around the block each night it is something, and I rather have a little then no training at all. She has been going out with her father to get a little in, but I've had pretty much nothing at all.

It seems like time is flying now...I am getting super excited, and so is DD. DNeice does not know if she can get out of school cause she was out for 2 weeks when my DSIL's father was in the hospital(they live about 8 hours from here) so I am not sure if she can miss any more school...so it may just be DD and myself...

Have fun training in the next couple of weeks everyone!!!:yay:

I am glad to report I got some training in last night. 60 minutes on the TM. The first 30 was intervals of walk 3 at 4.0-4.2 mph then jog 2 minutes at 5.2 mph. I did 2.28 miles in 30 minutes (278 calories) -- pace 13:09!!!! Then I was going to quit but decided to do some incline work. OMG, incline work is NOT easy! I stayed mostly around 4 mph but increased the incline gradually from .5 - 5.0. I did 2.07 in 30 minutes (14:30 pace) and burned 270 calories. I am just going to take a book and do the bike tonight for at least 30 minutes. Does anyone know whether there is any advantage to doing the upright bike versus the recumbent?

Good Morning team!!!!!

Can you believe 3 weeks today...I will be finishing up work and getting ready for vacation!!!!!!

Went to see the DR last night about my back, he gave me some anti-inflammitories but I don't think I will get the script filled. I hope it gets better soon, the more exercise I do the better it feels.

Cam, great pace....keep up the great work, the only think I have read is that a recumbent puts less pressure on your back.

Disneyfanz04......great for you getting out and walking. Do what you are comfortable with, this close to the run you don't want to ruin the progress you have already made. Are you walking or running the 15K????

Zwe, glad to hear your blisters are better.

Yup got my email as well, this trip can't come quickly enough.

Kim

probably crawling...:lmao: ..as long as I finish...

Well, I planned on running, but now I will be walking as I am sure my back could not handle a run...went to the DR's today and he wants me to go and get an epidural(cotizone) shot...hopefully I can get an appointment before the Minnie...has anyone had any experiance with epidural shots(besides pregnancy:rotfl: ) I hope this will give me at least a smiggen of relief!!!

Happy training everyone!!!

Erica -- Glad your blisters are better.

Michelle -- You should email or PM Sunny (plutosmyfav) -- she has had to have epidurals for her back pain and they provided a lot of relief. I just don't remember the particulars.

Kim -- If you dont' want to get that prescription filled, may I recommend Aleve? That is the drug my doctor prescribed for the inflammation I had in my back and it is a wonder drug, as far as I'm concerned.

Morning everyone! Three weeks and one day and I'm on a plane. Can't wait.... Training is going well, although I wasn't too enthused about doing my run on the TM. I was being a wimp though and didn't want to run in the rain. Today it is snowing....the rest of the week it is supposed to be warm and sunny.

I thought I remembered someone asking whether anyone was tapering for the race. I'm following Hal Higdon's 15K training plan. He doesn't specifically taper before the race, but this week is scaled back a bit for me. Last week my LR was 6 mi, this week 4 mi, next week 7 mi, the week after 8 mi, then the following week the race. So with his plan I never actually run this race distance beforehand....not sure how I feel about that. Same goes for his half marathon training plan that I'm jumping into after this one.

Got my APs last week, ordered the Disney Dining Experience yesterday....seriously cannot wait to get to Disney World.

BTW Kim - I didn't congratulate you on your great medal that you got for your 10K. How cool! Hope your back is feeling better soon.
Michelle - I hope your back feels better soon too. Good luck at the Dr.
Vicki - I printed the map out and I have it taped up on my filing cabinet at work, with my training schedule right next to it!
Cam - Excellent workout!

Not sure if we'll be at Jellyrolls on Sunday night or not. I may want to take advantage of the free admission we get for Pleasure Island that weekend.

Leana - I follow Hal's plans too. They have always worked for me, even though you never do the distance you are training for. You will be fine!

Michelle - good luck at the doctor! And you really should talk to Sunny since she has found relief with the epidural shots.

Ok, enough DISing! I still have not done my taxes!
I have to go through the mess that is our computer room and find all the paperwork I need. :scared1:

Here is the updated list of ADR openings, in case anyone wants to join us:

We still have openings at the following WISH mini-gatherings over the weekend:
Saturday 2 pm -- tea at the Grand Floridian (1)
Sunday 6:40 pm -- dinner at Chef Mickey's (1)
Sunday 8:00 pm -- WISHes cruise (departs from the Contemporary boat dock) (1)
Monday 9:40 a.m. -- breakfast at Spoodles (1)

Good Morning team!!!!!

Got in a 4K walk last night...boy was I sucking wind....take a week and a half off and wow. Plus I am still fighting my cold a bit so that might have made it worse. Back felt good, a little sore this morning but not too bad.

How are you all doing????

Can't wait to go!!!

Kim

Kim - good for you in getting the steps in. I'm glad your back is feeling better. Good luck getting over that cold though!

If there is one thing I can say - adrenalin on race day and the amazing atmosphere counts for a lot. It will help make those 15K fly by!

OK, just need some advice...as you know there are 3 of us going...we will be there a full day on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th...to add the dining plan would cost me $429.40 extra for the 3 of us...do you think it will be worth it, even if we were going to eat pretty good the whole weekend, do you think we would end up eating that much monies worth?????
