My husband and I are going up to Minneapolis at the end of the month. Our daughter has a concert and we want to go to it. We thought we'd take her to dinner. Because of the concert, we're going to have to eat very early (like 4 or 4:30) or fairly late (10).

We'll be staying at the Radisson on the U campus and the concert is on the West Bank. So...we're either looking to eat somewhere on campus or in downtown Minneapolis. We've been to the Loring Pasta Bar in Dinkytown and DD wants to try something different. I'm hoping we get to take her new beau with us...need to get her to forget how embarassing we are between now and then!;)

I'm hoping some of you have some suggestions for a place to eat. Please help me out!

When I was in Minneapolis I ate at Buca di Beppo and loved it.

I took my daughter and 3 friends there in September. We really enjoyed it. And the girls loved the leftovers as a refuge from dorm food! But my husband ate at the one near us a few weeks ago...

Ichiban's in downtown Mpls. is good and fun. Kind of like Teppanyaki at Epcot, I imagine, as we haven't done Teppanyaki yet at Epcot.

There also the seafood restaurant at the Hyatt downtown that just made the top 10 restaurants in the twin cities. I think it's called teh Ocean View Room. It's mostly seafood I think. The review made me almost drool, I want to try there so so bad.

On campus there aren't really any good good restaurants - remember we are talking college kids here with little money.

At the Radisson ,there's a place called McCormick's. They have an excellent menu last I saw it and that hotel is right on campus. East Bank near the IT side of campus and the hospital. I might have the wrong hotel chain, but I know I have the right location.

If you are willing to venture over to the St. Paul side of town, in downtown St. Paul at the site of the old train depot there's a Greek restaurant called Christos. Fabulous food and the building - The Depot - is awesome to be in.

I'll think some more on it if none of these sound good and check the thread later.

I'll add my $.02 ;)

As the OP stated, Christos is fabulous. But in Minneapolis there are several very good places to eat. Manny's seems to be one of the most popular around here, as well as Buca.

Have fun. :)

Was the seafood place Oceanaire? My wealthy SIL eats there often, and they usually plunk down several hundred dollars per meal. Very good, but very spendy. Sorry I can't really make any suggestions, as I don't eat in that area.

My daughter loves "cookum on the table" restaurants! I'm going to check out their hours and see if we can make that work. Since we visit her a few times a year, I'm open for other suggestions too. Usually we end up at the Mall of America and eat something there, but we figure we should broaden our horizons.

One thing that surprises me is that we haven't found a Swedish restaurant for breakfast. We go to Door County in Wisconsin and there's this cute place, Al Johnson's, that has goats on the roof and tasty Swedish pancakes. While I wouldn't expect to find goats on the roof in the cities, I expected Swedish pancakes would be easy to find, but they're not. Anybody have any thoughts there?

Thanks to all for the suggestions!

They have added some new places at the MOA recently that are pretty good, but nothing as extravagant or delicious as downtown!! :)

Not "fancy", but still good is Timber Lodge Steakhouse. It is the essence of "Up North". Good food and lots of it. There's one in Roseville which is just north of campus up 35W.

I also like Khan's Mongolian Barbecue. This one isn't a cook at your table thing, but similar. You pick your own meat and fresh vegetables and sauces from this huge buffet line and then take it to the cooks and they cook it for you. At dinner, it's all you can eat. Not as fancy as Ichiban's, but something different and the food is always yum. There's one of these in the Roseville area as well.

It is the Oceanaire restaurant, I believe.

Depending on how much coin you want to blow, you could try Manny's - but you are looking at quite the $$. I really like Timber Lodge - kind of like Outback, but a little more quiet, better food, I think.

I have heard that Ichiban is good!

St. Paul has some yummy things on Grand Ave. Downtown we have Kincaids, Pazzaluna, and a new Seafood place - think it's called the Lobster Shack. On Wabasha :)

Had to laugh, you are SO right...not a lot of Swedish restaurants in the Mpls area.

Now if you come further NORTH......say all the way up to Virginia, ya MIGHT find a few Swedish restaurants, but methinks the Dinkytown area is more fun to find something to eat in.

I also agree that Bucca might be a good one. Not sure how close one is to that area though.

Have fun!

There is a swedish restaurant in Lindstrom - about 45 miles north of the cities on 35.

Aquavit closed last year, I believe...

I would guess you guys have most of the same chain restaurants that we do, so something different, hmm...

We don't eat downtown much so some of this is going off of what I have heard/read.

Pizza Luce - great pizza! This one I have been too!

The Times Bar and Cafe

The Melting Pot is new to this area, pretty expensive though

Nye's Polonaise Room - never eaten there, but the bar is so much fun! Get ready to polka :) I must visit!

Egg & I has good breakfast

Jax, Goofellows, Manny's, Murray's are all expensive, but good.

Quang Restaurant - I've never been but it's on a lot of "best of" lists.

Chino Latino - my mother loves this place, eclectic food.

I need to get downtown and eat more often, there are so many places to go!

Have fun!
