We are looking to fly from Minneapolis to Orlando on Delta January or February 2016, our dates are still flexible. We have some points to use that will cover a couple flights, but we do need to purchase 1 or 2. We are very new to flying so unsure on what is a decent price for Minneapolis to Orlando.

Do Delta flights with points vary much in points? So far there are options for 25,000 or 30,000 depending on day and time.

What rate are you generally happy getting from MSP to MCO? Right now they are around $365 and up.

Although we have Delta points, I find it hard to actually find flights to book with them, so if you can get flights for 25,000 or 30,000, I'd go for it. You may be able to get a better deal on the price in dollars, but I am sure I have paid at least that much the last few times we have gone in March.

I just booked a nonstop Delta flight on points for 37,500 to New York City.

It used to be possible to 'pay with points' (not the 'RT for 25K points'). I think it was 10,000 points = $100 off the fare.

Thank you for the advice!

Hmm, I didn't see anything like this looking through? I see where you can buy points, but that doesn't seem worth the price IMO.

The "pay with miles" option is only if you carry a Delta branded American Express card.

We typically fly SWA or SC out of MSP because it is so much cheaper. We pay, on average, about $225-$250/person round trip.

On our trip in December, I paid $206 for MSP-MCO on Delta, nonstop. That was an amazing fare that I booked 8 months in advance. We're flying down to Orlando tomorrow and that fare (also on Delta) was $310. I actually now prefer to fly down to MCO on Sun Country, which we can get in the mid-$200s if we are diligent about watching fare sales. We likely won't fly Southwest to Orlando again now that they got rid of all the nonstop flights...I'd rather pay a little more for direct.

Thank you all for your help and opinions!

Southwest is out since we want direct. We were considering SC but decided on Delta since I had some old miles and we got some more miles by getting the Delta Am Ex.

I usually wait until it is close to $250 before booking. Last year I had points for Delta and called I believe to have them do $100 off per ticket (so I had 30,000 points which was worth $300 total and I needed 3 tickets). I'm hoping to fly Sun Country this year for points, and location in the smaller terminal.

Depending on the time of year & the flight times, I'm happy if MSP to MCO non-stop on Delta is under $300...but honestly I've paid anywhere from $300-$350 in recent trips. I have my eye on a late Sept flight right now & it was $286--wish I would have jumped on it, as it's now back to $326. I also have found Delta flights usually drop on Wednesdays & then are priced higher on Sundays/Mondays. Not sure that's always true, but what I have seen lately. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your advice! We got anxious about using points, since we have never used points to fly before, and ended up booking. Hopefully it was the right, or at least an okay, decision!

We were also watching Delta's rates from Minneapolis to Orlando for the last 8-9 months. We applied for the Delta AX card, got that, and then about 2 months ago rates dropped to 282/person. We booked that day! So did our brother and his family- so all 13 of us are heading down the end of September. Plus we used the AX card, so we got extra points added on- next year we should have enough to pay at least 2 of our tickets, which for a family of 6 that is a HUGE help! I love Delta!
