4/5-4/12 7 nights at Pop Century
THURSDAY, APRIL 7
The plan was to sleep in. I believe I set the wake up call for about 9:30. There was no need for it though because sleeping in for our kids meant 8:30 that day. So, we were up and at em and at the Downtown Disney Bus Stop by 9:45. We had a bit of a wait here. Again, Im a bit of a line waiting snob, only because I fear at any moment I will have a child that begins to exhibit Stitch-like behavior, or worse yet, uncontrollable whining from boredom. Anyway, I had never taken the Pop bus to DTD. In fact, I hadnt been to DTD since it was called Disney Village. The bus ride was longer than I anticipated. It stopped at BB too.
I could practically see the dollar signs roll through Joes eyes like a casino slot machine. Why? Because we now found, MY mecca The World of Memories store. Im a big scrapbooking buff and this was way more temptation than I could handle. I plopped everything I wanted in front of Joe and told him I was too light-headed from all the choices to look closely and decide (not to mention shopping with four kids is not the easiest environment in which to concentrate). So, I asked him to look at the papers, stickers and such and pare down my choices to stuff seemed to resemble the kinds of stuff that goes best with this trip and with my scrapbooking style. Theres just know way I would be able to do it! I wanted it all! He is very supportive of my hobby, so I know he could do this. Well, he picked out way more than I would have. Yay! We even took pictures inside the store! I know, Im a bit wacky about this hobby! The kids also picked out some goodies and we were all ready to go. After all that shopping, the cashier asked if we were planning to do more shopping. We said, well yes, probably, we just got here. He actually tried to talk us out of buying the stuff there and go buy it at World of Disney because they had a lot of the same stuff. He was suggesting this in relation to being able to ship it home and such. I said, Are you kidding? Look how long it took me to pick out what I wanted here! Theres no way I want to start over at a new store with the kids and stuff! So, we settle up our bill, shipping some stuff home and sending some back to the room.
We checked out Goofys Candy Co. and the kids had a ball using the sugar mixer machine to make themselves tubes full of multi-flavored sugar. Yum! Great breakfast! $30 worth of candy and junk food later, we were on our way. We headed to Lego Land, where more potty breaks ensued. I felt like a ping pong ball bouncing back and forth trying to keep up with the kids as they darted to and fro. Then came the slide incident. Something must have happened at the top of the slide because there was this kid, about the same size as Buddy who was crying his head off. His dad was asking him, Did he step on your hand? Its ok, Im sure it was an accident. When I looked up to the top of the slide the only he I spotted was my son who was intently watching the crying boy at the bottom of the slide. I stepped in and asked if my son had done something as I hadnt witnessed any wrongdoing but wanted to follow up. The dad didnt really give me an answer but I went ahead and assumed it was my son that accidentally stepped on the kids hand, so I apologized for him and tried in a sweet but firm voice, to remind my son to be careful and watch where hes walking. I asked him to apologize to the boy, which he did meekly. But of course, this caused Buddy to turn. He was embarrassed and upset with me. I really dont know what happened and wish I had just ignored the whole thing. I guess thats what you get for trying to do the responsible thing. Now, Joe has disappeared to the bathroom with Cali and Meg and Im chasing JayJay and Buddy who are going in opposite directions. I can see from his little red cheeks that Buddy is getting hot which just escalates his sour mood. He crosses his arms on a lego table and puts his head down on top of them in a classic pouty, leave me alone stance. I feel bad but he refuses to let me get near him.
We figure its time to leave and get some real sustenance. Since were on the Dining Plan and Buddy is on a strict Chicken Strips and Fries only diet, we make our way back to the bus stop. Joe is on a mission to find batteries for the camera and possibly a charger for the digital. We got lucky on the batteries but no luck on a charger. Visits to World of Disney and Once Upon A Toy were included on this trip to DTD. Lots to look at here but Joe kind of steamtrained us through the stores. I think he felt wed spent enough in one day already. I was disappointed with the My Little Pony station. My kids pretty much had all the accessories there. Meg did want a new pony but I steered her away from that. She has about a gazillion already that dont get played with that much anyway. I was holding out for Disney-related items for them instead.
Joe heads back ahead of us to World of Memories store (where we began) to get the batteries that he was searching for. In a freak turn of events, Meg flips out because she wants to be with daddy NOW! Then, as I find a place for us to sit near the World of Memories store, I send Meg in but she doesnt want to go in after dad now. Then, JayJay walks into a chair and starts crying. How many times has she gotten hurt at WDW now?! Maybe thats why she is so adamant on being carried around all the time! Its safer! Lol Come on children! Another Drama With Mama incident. Still, I swear these kids have a secret mission to keep us just thisclose to our patience threshold. It must be fun for them. Whatever it is, I HOPE and PRAY they mellow out because I dont think I put up with the irrational whining forever! Heaven help me! At the bus stop at DTD, more whining ensues when JayJay discovers that Buddy got a giant lollipop and she had picked out some paintbrush sugar thing that now looked rinky dink in comparison. JayJay wails for her own lolli. Somehow, miraculously and wonderfully, Buddy cheers JayJay up something we parents were unable to do and they end up sharing his lolli! Yay, Buddy!
The bus took a long time to get back to Pop with stops at PI and the water park, etc. It was 12:30 by the time we got back to the hotel. Another round of Thank you Micekeepers and then off to the pool for a short swim. Joe supervised the kids while I picked up food from the Food Court. We hadnt eaten anything but a bit of junk food (like fried chicken strips and fries is such a healthy alternative) so I was feeling another guilty mom moment. It was unfounded though because surprise, surprise, the kids barely ate any of their food anyway! I swear, I dont know how they survive sometimes!
Remember, we literally 45 seconds from the Bowling Pin pool, so by 1:45 or so, we are back at the room asking the kids to take an afternoon nap. It was a half-hearted attempt on their part. Just when I thought they were quieted down, I hear squeals and words I really didnt want to hear! Ewww, gross! Buddy went poo... (What, Buddy went to the pool?) NO... Buddy pooped his pants! WHAT???!!!! I dont know if he had fallen asleep and did it or if he was awake, but either way this was SOOO not like him! I was so frustrated! I was tired today and really wanted a quick siesta myself. Nope, not happening! Thankfully, it was an easy clean-up. But who knew a trip to WDW would leave me feeling like I was up to my ears in pee and poo?!
Since they were all more getting on each other nerves than resting, I decide that we should just get changed and go to Epcot early. Yay! Ep-ri-cot! Cheers Meg. So, off we go to Ep-ri-cot!
