Can anyone advise me on luggage capacity? We have booked a 7 seater minivan, there are 6 of us travelling but I am concerned about how much luggage it will hold. We are going for 3 weeks and want to do shopping as well. The only information I can find says capacity depends on the number of passengers?? Any advice welcomed

I'm not a driver but we've hired a mini-van on both our trips to WDW with DH doing all the driving. I do know you will struggle to fit in 6 peoples luggage. We were 6 on our last visit but we did just manage. It helps if some of the cases are the soft type bags as opposed to suitcases. Again on the trip back we had more luggage but did get it all in.

We stayed in a villa & whilst there DH removed one of the seats & stored it in the garage for the holiday. it made more room in the back of the van for the kids.

Hope the above makes sense.

By the way our kids were all teenagers not small!

welcome mitsi :wave2:

I think you would struggle to get luggage for 6 in a 7 seater minivan unless some of the 6 were say babies or toddlers.

Welcome to the Dis mitsi :)

We had 6 people (4 adults and 2 children) in a 7 seater. There was room for 3 largeish, one mediumish suitcases and three large holdall bags squashed in around the suitcases. We put hand luggage in the car with us.

Minivan's to be honest are more 'people carriers' than luggage one's...we have rented a minivan the last few years and even with there just being the 3 of us we had to have the back seats down so we could fit our 3 suitcases in.
They are really good but not necessarily ideal in your cirumstances I think.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I may have to think about upgrading as we are 4 adults & 2 teenagers. We have a long journey from Orlando to the Keys, anybody got any idea how long this will take?

which company did you rent from?
At alamo you can pick the specific car you want when you get to the airport(from a row full of the size that you've taken)..
so when we picked the minivan, we opened the back door of every van in the row until we found the one that had the most luggage space.
The one we picked was the Chrysler Town and Country with Stow and Go...
it has an especially deep floor behind the third row of seats, so it fits lots of luggage...but you have to be careful that you have the model with the deeply indented back floor to get that extra space...of course if they don't have any left, you're out of luck since you can't pre-order it....

we had 3 very large suitcases (those super large ones) plus 3 big hardsided carry ons (those with the wheels) plus two big duffel bags, plus two backpacks..

it all fit in....

this minivan comfortably holds 7.....two front bucket seats....two middle bucket seats (also with armrests like the ones in the front)..
and a back bench that holds 3 people....

Orlando to the Keys? at least 6 hours I would have thought, usually about 3 or so to Miami and then I think possibly 3 more too...to be honest you need to stop overnight somewhere in my opinion.

Car hire is booked with alamo so thanks for the tip. Do you have to get a bus to the car depot from orlando international airport? Any idea how long it takes from landing, pick up car and driving to international drive?
We have 2 drivers so hopefully we will set off early and make a few stops en-route to the keys. I was expecting a 5-6 hour drive so thanks for confirming that.

Alamo is right onsite at MCO :)

You depart the airport on foot and it's right in front of you, easy peasy :)

It has taken us as little as 45 mins from getting off the plane to being in the car driving away to as long as 2 hours, so I would say somewhere in between those two extremes :)

Alamo are now situated at the airport itself so no - used to be a couple of miles away.

How long? At least 2 hours I would say, maybe a little less if you are lucky.

oops, Karen and I appear to have replied at the same time :)

thanks guys. I must say this is a fantastic web site, great for asking all those questions and getting others viewpoints and experiences. I'm sure I'll be posting more questions before I go at end of March. :cheer2:
