Minimum pts for New Purchase won't change after all....

Hi everyone - I just got off the phone with my guide, and he told me that Disney has decided NOT to increase the minimum point purchase from 160 to 200 effective 1/15. He said that it will remain at 160, but that the "add-on" minimum will still increase to 100 pts.

Good news for those of us that weren't sure we'd be ready to buy in by Jan. 15th!!!

Until you see an actual announcement from Disney, I would be cautiously optimistic.

Argh! That's not what I wanted to hear....oh well, I actually WANT to purchase 200 points but my DH isn't as convinced that we need that many, so even if the minimum does go up it might work to my advantage anyway!

I don't know if anyone else go the same email I did on 12/31/08 it is an solicitation from DVC for both AKV and BLT and it is telling you to add on now to avoid increases, Att the bottom of the blurb for AKV it says add on before the price per point increases but on the bottom of the blurb for BLT it states to add on before the Vacation points package increases. Take that for what it is worth but it is in writting from DVC, I don't know if it means the minimum add on increasing to 100 points or initial buy in increasing to 200 points for BLT

My guide just told me on Sunday that they were increasing to 200 pts!

Recently some DVC members ( us included ) received by mail from DVC brochure stating a BLT add-on for existing members will increase from 25 pts minimum to 100 points minimum on Jan 15 2009 which appears to be definite but this mailing also stated for those who want to join DVC by purchasing their points at BLT for their initial buy-in that minimum amount would increase from 160 to 200 points on Jan 15 2009.

CarolAnn, one of the moderators here on the DVC boards, however, was told by DVC in past week that a new member buy-in at BLT will not increase on Jan 15 & will remain at 160 pt minimum and some otherstoo were told this as well. And then there are some like you who have been told in past couple of days that there will be the increase to 200 pts for buy-in at BLT so anyone considering joing DVC via a BLT purchase would be wise to QUESTION if they're being told 200 pt minimum.
