We currently have 175 points at SSR (love SSR). We have been holding out for Contemporary DVC (love it there too!) - now with AKV, we are even more excited as we love it here too!

Here is my question: What is the minimum # of points to purchase from Disney for AKV? We just returned from our holiday trip in January, and our next trip is being planned for next April/May with the new baby. My hubby just emailed me the point chart for AKV, but we are worried about getting any availability at 7 months out for end of April/beginning of May 2008 (we are taking Disney Cruise the week before), so we figured we'd ask about what was the minimum # of points we could purchase?

Also, these points just get added to our 175 points, right? The small contract would allow us to book at 11 months, but we would use our regular SSR points combined with these points, right?

We have always done very easy point transactions, so we are hoping to get any info you all could provide to us in order to assist us with our vacation planning.

Thanks, Tiger :)

Since you are already members, the minimum number of points you can add-on is 25, if you are paying cash. 50 if you are financing.

You can not combine points from different resorts to reserve during the 11 month priority window. In other words, at 11 to 7 months, you could use SSR points to reserve SSR and AKV points to reserve AKV, at 7 months, points are points, and can be combined to use anywhere.

Yep, at 11 mos. you could only book as many nights at AKV as you have the AKV points for. If it isn't enough to cover your entire stay, your only option would be to book the remainder of the week @ SSR and cross your fingers that you could change that portion to AKV at 7 mos.

Thanks very much. My hubby just came home for lunch, so he and you both just helped me realize that I was confused about the whole add-on thing. You can only add-on at your current resort, right?

We are so hoping that at 7 months there may be something available as buying AK is not in the cards as we are still paying down our mortgage and that is a priority.

Thanks so much for all of your help, Tiger :)

You can add-on at any resort you want. However, if you are buying direct from Disney, some of the resorts have a waitlist for certain use years. You should probably call your guide for more specific information regarding availability.

You mean you can only add-on to the resort that you own, right? We own SSR, which means that we can only add-on there, right?

We've tried calling our guide before, and he hasn't always returned calls, so I figured I'd get more info on our Member Board and on here :)

Thanks, Tiger

No, you can certainly add-on 25 points at AKV or any other resort if you wish, but they can not be combined with SSR points for the 11 month priority window. You can use SSR points to reserve at SSR and AKV points to reserve at AKV during the 11 month to 7 month window. You can combine those points for reservatons at any resort at 7 months.

Any amount of points at any resort under the current minimum for a new, separate membership is called an "add-on."

Thanks very much - I totally understand now! My hubby just teased me because this is our first day of March Break (I'm a highschool teacher) and so he says my brain is already on rest mode as it took me a few minutes longer than normal to get my head around this scenario.

One more question, if you please: Say, we added on 25 or 50 points at AKV in order to book at 11 months, if we were then lucky to get to add the remaining rest of the week at 7 months, would they then link these ressies together and make one ressie? I know sometimes when paying for cash rooms and doing this, they aren't able to accommodate and guests have had to have two ressies, or even switch rooms.

Thanks so much, Tiger :)

Yes, the reservations can be linked, as long as it is the same size and "class" (view, preferred vs. value, etc) of room. The same is true of cash reservations made through DVC Member Services.

If a cash reservation is made through Disney Travel, then the chances are you'd have to move.

Thanks, Chuck. Something for us to think about. Totally appreciate all of your info.

Don't forget about banking/borrowing.

For a May '08 trip with a 25 point AKV contract (w/ the same UY as your SSR contract of course):

With a UY of Feb, Mar, or Apr, you could bank 2007 points and borrow 2009 points and have up to 75 AKV points to use.

With a UY or Jun, Aug, Sep, Oct, or Dec, you could borrow 2008 points and have up to 50 AKV points to use.
