i'm planning a solo trip.

i like to keep things neat and compact when staying at hotels which means my belongings will be in drawers or the cubby area of the dresser and not lying all over the place for mousekeeping to have to clean around.

whats the minimum i could tip each day considering the room will be pretty neat and tidy?

I've always gone with $1 per person per day and then $1 extra. So $2 a day is what I would do.

The minimum?

$0.00

Tips are not required nor expected.

i believe in tipping mousekeeping because it gives the person a tiny bit of incentive to do a good job and many times actually go above and beyond. (for example one mousekeeper set up my niece's stuffed animals each day doing something cute and we were excited to come back after a long day at the parks to see how they were set up.)

i know there is no requirement or law stating i must.

generally we tip $1 per person which would mean $2, $3, or $4 depending on how many people i go with.

i didn't know if it was appropriate to only tip $1 since i'm going solo or whether it would be more appropriate to tip $2

It sounds like you just do a fine job at keeping your room clean yourself. I go on vacations with my family and NEVER have the room cleaned. If I were you I'd leave the do not disturb sign and not worry about leaving a dime since they won't be in the room :thumbsup2

Tipping is a very personal decision that people have very different and often passionate feelings about

Minimum to tip? Zero
Go from there and do your own thing

I've never tipped and we always had DD's stuffed animals posed in different ways.

I would figure out how much you want/can afford for the entire stay and divide from there. I think tipping is a nice gesture and I'm sure mousekeeping appreciates any amount. It can add up among several rooms.

Good or bad I don't tip anything. I don't leave my room a mess and I believe that when I pay the hotel it includes: shampoo, cable and my bed made.

I vary it according to the price per night, maybe adding or subtracting if we've left less or more of a job for them to do. In a Deluxe, we generally leave $10 a night and a little bit more on checkout. In a Value I would probably leave $5. When six of us stayed at a cabin at Fort Wilderness, we left quite a bit more!

It's not expected but these people work hard and make very little money. I remember when I used to do housekeeping (not at Disney) and tips were rare. When I did get them, I nearly cried I was so happy. So I enjoy doing that for other people now that I have the opportunity to do so. :)

When DH and I go alone no kids, We tip mousekeeping 5 or 6 dollars a day, maybe more if we are asking for extra, towels, or pillows or whatever. When the kids were little, We would tip at least 10 dollars a day. We would have them make tip envelopes for each day. My DM, DD and I went in January and we each tipped 2 bucks a day so 6 dollars.

Really its up to you.

I would say that if you leave the room clean $2 is a good amount. I believe in leaving tips. Overall I believe that most Americans leave tips. In fact last summer we stayed at a well known hotel chain in the Northeast and they had left out a tip envelope. I felt this was a little tacky.

As far as not having housekeeping come. I enjoy coming back to a clean room.

Was housekeeping a tipped position?

Do you tip other people that work hard and make very little? Like McDonald's employees? I bet they would cry too, from happiness, if someone tipped them.

Nothing. Per Disney Housekeeping is NOT considered a tipped position.

Personally, I keep the do not disturb sign on the door the entire time & just get clean towels as needed. If you feel the need leave $5 on your last day when they make up the room for the next guests.
