As I am gathering items to get ready for our trip next month, I wanted to post once again how wonderful these M&M holders are.

We use them to hold quarters for the tolls and have some for the kids to put quarters in for the arcades and whatnot.

Others have used them for creams, lotions, to hold bandaids, loose change, pressed pennies, jewelry....they are splashproof at least....the use for them goes on.

Save'em, you'll eventually use them :)

Good idea. I bought a big mini m & m tube for my son for this purpose. I think I'll bring it and put the pressed pennies in it though. Last year we used a film canister and it worked great. There are 3 kids going with us this year and I got 3 film canisters that have black lids and some little mickey stickers. I decorated them and they are adorable. I'm going to layer 2 quarters and a penny so that it's easy to grab change needed for the machines. This saved so much time last year. I think I'll decorate the red m&m container too, to put the pressed pennies in. Thanks for the idea.

Just don't put coins in there, and then bring them in your carry-on for the airplane. I did that, and it created quite a stir! The security person said it looked 'suspicious' with all that metal in that shape. She burst out laughing when after doing all their security procedures, it ended up being a mini M&M container covered with Pooh Bear and Tigger stickers. I'm putting it in the checked baggage next time!

M&M tubes are an idea I found on this board a while back. I have several people saving them. We will use them for arcades and pressed pennies. Great idea about the checked luggage.

Thanks for a great suggestion. Finally somewhere to keep our pressed pennies, without paying foe the display book!

Hi!

The pressed pennies idea is great! I'm off to find some shiny pennies and quarters to fill up an m&ms container. Thanks! :cool1:

Do you really want shiny pennies? Shiny pennies are new...new pennies have zinc in the middle. When you squish them, you see the zinc. How about shining up some pre-1982 pennies that are all copper?

On the penny idea: My daughter puts in two quarters and then a penny. That way when she gets to the machine, the coins she needs are right there and she doesn't have to get out two different containers.

That's exactly how we do it. It saves so much time!

I think I will just put mine in a baggie or something until we get to Disney and then put them in the tubes. (If that will help to not get held up in the security line) I know it isn't a lot of money, but I would be a little bit upset/disappointed if I got there and didn't have my quarters and pennies because they were stolen out of my luggage. Plus, I don't want them to have any reason to search my luggage. Would much rather them have to search my carry on and find them. :smooth:

Oh and the dollar store has the large longer tubes left over from Valentines day 2 tubes for $1. :flower:

You can also get film canisters at any place that has one hour photo processing. I went into Costco and they practically begged me to take more then the five or six that they had given me.

does anyone know around how many pennies and quarters you need to do all the pressed pennies? my daughter is collecting for out October trip and I want to make sure I have enough!

Newbie to WDW here. :confused3 Anyone mind explaining the "pressed pennies"? What I'm gathering here is that there are pressing machines in the parks, and it must cost 2 quarters to press 1 penny. What is pressed onto the penny? Must be Mickey or something? :p Any links to pictures of these or descriptions of these so that I could show my DD7? Sounds like it could be something she'd be interested in. TIA

You are correct that a pressed penny is just as you described. They have the penny machines in every park and at the resorts. There are even pressed quarter machines. It takes, if I remember correctly, 4 quarters + the one for pressing, total $1.25.

As far as a link to see what they look like, sorry can't help you there. They have machines that feature just about every character and have some for the rides like Space Mountain and Tower of Terror. As someone mentioned earlier, it is a good idea to have a penny that is shiny. This helps the pressed image show up better.

Thanks jlcbshaw! Good info, and it certainly does sound like something my kids may like! Still hoping someone might post with a picture of one of these?! :earsgirl:

We had coins in baggies in a carry on back pack. DH got stopped and they had to hand search the bag - they would likely hand search checked luggage too if they saw that much metal/ density by machine.

Definately do use the pre-1982 pennies. On our last trip, we tried out a newer penny to see what it would look like and it did not look good with the silver streaked through it. An easy way to get your pennies to shine up, at least for a while, is to soak them in vinegar.

thanks for the info! especially for the link to the pictures. appreciate all the helpfulness here on the dis! :disrocks:

At allearsnet.net, Deb Wills has a link explaining what and where each machine is. We have collected pressed pennies on every vacation we go on.
