I know the mini "fridge" is more of a beverage cooler now and was just wondering if it would keep milk from spoiling? We were debating if it was worth ordering a few groceries for in room breakfasts? Has anyone has their milk or food spoil using them?

I have not kept milk but I have (numerous times) kept mustard, turkey, cheese, yogurt, potato salad and drinks.

Another thing you can do, if you're worried about it not being cold enough is bring a gallon zip lock bag and fill it up with ice and keep it pressed against the milk. Will need to change it daily, but should keep the milk cooler.

OP, things can always vary based on conditions and the performance of your particular machine, but (in my opinion) Disney has actually been pretty decent about air movement/ventilation of the cabinets where the mini fridges are located in their more recent round of room renovations. This helps those things operate more effectively, on the margins.

We have had zero issues keeping milk, yogurt, lunch meat and cheese fresh tasting. And when it comes to the milk very cold to the taste.

I have not had good experiences with the beverage cooler for food. We now travel with a cooler, get ice from the machine, and keep cold food COLD. I have used both hard cooler and soft collapsible cooler that I can pack in suitcase with great success. Using cooler also helps to keep the "fridge" available for beverages. Just be sure to line your soft cooler with a leak proof bag to prevent a mess and headache. Ordering groceries is definitely worth it.
Have a great trip!

Never had any problems keeping things cold in the BCs.

If it was a rampant problem, reports would be everywhere I would think.

If you do get a unit that is not cooling well, let Maintenance know you need them to take a look at it.

Last time we stayed at the YC our milk and yogurt spoiled, and that was with even putting bags of ice in there with it. Luckily our kids were old enough and just used milk for cereal at that point. However, when they were much younger we relied on milk for their bottles--especially at bedtime. I am grateful that many moons ago Disney had "normal" mini fridges in their rooms. Sure, you can try the shelf stable milk--but that does taste different to a kid.

Can’t you request an actual mini fridge? I remember reading that somewhere.
Wondering also because worried about my insulin, especially with our upcoming, longer (13 night!!!) BC stay. Had no issues with the old mini fridges, but..?

Insulin can be stored at room temperature up to a month. I would never put my insulin in a mini-fridge as it could freeze. A beverage cooler would be safer for keeping cold. I’d either look into having the front desk store meds that need refrigerated or I’d look into a frio wallet.

The in room beverage coolers only cool to 41 degrees. Perishable food has to be kept below 40 degrees.

Yes opened bottles of insulin are fine at room temp for up to a month. Unopened bottles of my insulin ( Lantus and Humalog) need to be stored between 36 and 46 degrees. If you've ever dropped and broken an open bottle of insulin while filling a syringe while traveling, like I have, you know it's important to carry extra bottles. Yeah, it's a big deal to me because it's kept me alive for a long, long time but I'll figure it out.
Thanks for your reply, elvispursley, I do appreciate it, and sure hope everyone is having a magical day! :goodvibes

I think it's probably fine for milk if the unit is working properly, though I have found that some barely cool at all. This could be for any number of reasons. Of course, you can always alert the front desk and they should send maintenance to fix it (how long that could take, I don't know).

Oh trust me—I hear you! I ALWAYS travel wi the extra insulin vials. I’ve accidentally thrown a vial of insulin away and broken one. No fixing the brain fog when I threw the vial away (doh) but now I travel wi to these silicon sleeves that go over the vial so they don’t break if you drop. I go through about 3 vails a month so I’m not quite as concerned not refrigerating when traveling. Maybe take a collapsible lunch bag and keep ziploc bags with ice in with your insulin vials. Good luck!!!
