Does anyone have a picture of these? I've seen the mini cakes, but have not seen the mini castles. InTheKnow really got me curious about them in previous thread of mine...V&A's told me the top layer of the mini cakes was thimble sized...I can't imagine what a castle small enough to fit on that would look like!! I'm still on the fence about these cakes...and at $25 a piece, I would really need to LOVE the idea to buy them. Thanks!

LittleBlackRaincloud, I'm not sure what sort of event you are wanting the mini-cakes for. If it is a wedding event, the cost is higher than $25. I wrote the following in another thread here recently, but thought I should post it below so that you have a full understanding as to the price breakdowns:

- - - - - - -
I chose to have individual mini-cakes served to the guests at my custom vow renewal. On my final bill, the mini-wedding cakes’ cost breakdown was as follows:

Mini-Wedding Cakes charge was $625 ($25 per cake x 25 guests = $625)
Sales Tax charge for Mini-Cakes was $40.63
Gratuity charge was $173.75
Sales Tax charge for Gratuity was $11.29

When all was said and done, the cost for 25 miniature wedding cakes came to $850.67. That works out to $34.03 a cake.

I wrote about the cake selection process in my Planning Session trip report (click here and look for the posts # 243 and # 251 on that webpage). I gave links in those posts to photos of various wedding cakes, including the mini-cakes (click here to see the mini-underwater cake).

If you view the posts that I mentioned above, you will find links to photos of various cakes & mini-cakes. Since you are interested in the mini-castle cake, click here. The woman on the right-hand side of that photo is holding a mini-castle cake. I'll see if I can find the original photo and crop it down to size so that you can see what the mini-castle cake looks like. I'll post a link once I've done so.

I did a search of the Internet and found the following photo: Mini-Castle Cake. That photo has a much better quality than my own (thank goodness!). But that cake is not as elaborate as the cake that I saw inside of Franck's Bridal Studio.

My guess is that the cake in the photo was ordered in a quantity of "one" for someone's dinner at a restaurant. The photos that I've seen of mini-cakes that have been ordered in that manner have all shown very basic mini-cakes. Those cakes were never as elaborate as the ones that I’ve seen served at Fairy Tale Weddings’ dinner receptions.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Janet! That does help a lot. I am getting married, and we are eating at V&A's chef's table after our ceremony. It's just the two of us. I understand that tax and gratuity would be added onto the cake price, and am thinking that's what you mean about it costing more. I have spoken to the bakery folks, and they quoted me $25 a cake for the mini castle cake.

After seeing that photo of the castle though, I don't think I'm going to get them. I really don't like that castle, and figured it would be that way. (It's hard to have detail on a chocolate piece that small.) I don't think we'll be hurting for dessert at the chef's table anyways...

Thanks again!

LittleBlackRaincloud, I'm glad it helped. I wasn't sure where you were going to be enjoying the mini-cake -- if it was going to be part of a FTW dinner reception or simply an added touch to a private meal. Because of my uncertainty, I gave the specific cost breakdown. I didn't want anyone to have sticker shock after ordering 100 of those cakes and finding out after the fact that the price was way higher than $25 x 100. ;)

Now that you said you'll be dining at Victoria & Albert's, I agree that you won't need anything further than what you'll be getting as part of your meal. My favorite dessert at V&A's is the Grand Marnier soufflé -- yum! But you can't go wrong with any of their desserts. Their meals truly are scrumptious (and I'm getting hungry just thinking about it).

25 per cake sounds so high- is it a better deal to get the big cake, since there would probably not be as much detailing as 30 individual cakes?
Cake prices sound scary---- custom wedding cake for 65 people would cost??? anyone know?

This link http://www.yourfairytale.com/cakes.html has the power point presentation available showing the WDW cakes...it also has a link to the price list.

They also do customized cakes I've heard. If you do a search of this thread for cakes, you will get a bunch of threads about this subject. Happy researching!

Yes, the mini-cakes were pricey. I paid $850.67 for 25 mini-cakes at my vow renewal. I could have definitely paid a lot less money for one average size cake that would have easily fed my guests (and then some). But I was after a certain feel for my dinner party and thus chose mini-cakes. For my dinner party, it worked out perfectly.

Choosing a cake is a very personal choice that is made on many levels, one being pricing. LittleBlackRaincloud gave a link to pricing that should give you an idea as to what sort of costs are involved. Please note that the spreadsheet is from two years ago. To get more accurate pricing info, definitely talk to your FTW coordinator/planner.

Janet, yes that cake was mine, we had it for our first anniversary at Narcoossee's. It was fantastic. The castle itself was hollow unlike the big one on the regular sized cakes.

I'm seconding what Janet said, get the souffle! It is beyond delicious. And if you are at all into coffee, get the coffee just for the fancy service.

And one other V & A tip, don't eat the bread! Or maybe just try it but don't eat alot. When the courses start coming, they are small enough that you think you can eat the bread, but by the end you feel like rolling out the door.

Btw, I love your dis name, so cute!

D&R love Disney, thank you for posting. I didn't know who that photo belonged to since I had done a Google search and it was the first one that popped up. How wonderful that it was for a fellow Dis'er. :) And thank you for letting us know that the mini-castle was hollow. I always wondered if it was hollow or solid. Did you order the cake from the GF Bakery yourself or did Narcoossee's order it for you?

Oh, I just love the bread at V&A's. I cannot eat at V&A's without eating at least two (and sometimes ~gulp~ three) of their rolls. But Bridegirl is right. The more you eat of the bread, the less room you'll have for the other courses.

I hate to admit it but because of those delicious dinner rolls, I have left the restaurant on at least two occasions (maybe more) without finishing my Grand Marnier soufflé. Believe me, my head was hung low in shame whenever that happened. Not finishing your Grand Marnier soufflé may not be a cardinal sin to most folks, but to my stomach it is. ;)

Heather, my apologies for not posting the mini cake pic sooner, work has been crazy!

A few items on these posts I would like to comment on:

1. When you open the price list on the link above, please notice the date. This list is way out of date, yet the new price list is not that far off from the original. The mini cakes listed on this list are no longer being offered as standard cakes, but probably could still be made at a price close to the one on this list. The current offerings can be seen on the new CD available thru WDW weddings.

2. The mini castle cake shown in white is the standard offering. The one you see with the blue castle and bright flowers was from a Food Network taping. The blue castle, although pretty, leaves a nice coating of glossy blue paint on your guests lips, kinda meesy. And the bright sugar floral must be attached to the cake with wires, which looks awful when plucked from the mini cake.

3. Any mini cake will be at least as expensive as the fanciest full size cake due to the extra labor to make them. Food cost is always on the low end of the pricing scale in comparison to the labor involved to make and decorate them. Also, any custom (non-standard for WDW) mini cake will be more costly.

4. The $25 price on the mini cakes is for "individually ordered" cakes, not for those served in larger numbers for receptions.

5. the "thimble sized" cake tier on the mini's is for a 2 tier mini cake, which looks more like a traditional wedding cake. The base tier is 3" in diameter, and the top tier is 1 1/2" in diameter.

6. As nice as the mini cakes are, they can't beat a V&A souffle!

Doggone it. Now that we're talkin' about soufflés, I had to pull out a photo of one of 'em: click here. Of course, all I have in my house right now is a bag of Chex Mix, ~drats.~

IntheKnow, could you please post the link to your photo of the mini-castle cake? Thank you.

I'm excited about the dessert offerings at V&A's, but I don't think I'll have a guarantee of what I'll get. My understanding is that with the chef's table, you get a sampling of everything, so I don't think I can order just one thing. Oh well, guess I'll just have to try everything!!! :flower: Also, I didn't think they served rolls at the chef's table, but maybe they do. I get so confused somethimes about these things! Thanks for the tips though...I think I'm just going to stick with the dessert offerings there, and not order a cake.

InTheKnow-no problem about the photo...I understand how life can get crazy sometimes. Thanks for the info though! Do you work for the bakery or are just a WDW cake expert?!? :teeth: I would still LOVE to see your pictures of any mini cakes you have. Thanks!

Janet, Poly concierge hooked me up with the GF bakery. I ordered the mini wedding cake and the white chocolate slipper and they had the desserts sent to Narcoossee's. My DH was totally surprised.

That souffle looks to die for!

Warning: Do not open following link on an empty stomach. You have been warned... ;)

LittleBlackRaincloud, have no fear, amongst other things, your Chef’s Table dinner will include bread/rolls: click here (bread/rolls seen in a few of those photos). My favorite is a sourdough potato bread. It is delicious, especially when warm.

I hope you had a full stomach before you viewed those photos. The courses looked scrumptious, didn't they?!

D&R love Disney, I mentioned to my husband last night that I think we should order one of those mini-castle cakes during our next WDW vacation. He agreed (he has always liked the cakes from the Grand Floridian's Bakery). As to the Cinderella's Slipper dessert, I just might have to add that to our order too. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you clicked on the link that I gave in my prior post, you should have seen a lovely picture of a Grand Marnier soufflé that was served at the Chef's Table. When I found that restaurant review on the 'net this evening, I salivated over the photos. My dinner tonight is going to consist of burgers & fries with a bunch of ex-coworkers at the local hamburger joint. Believe me, I'd much rather be dining at Victoria & Albert's, ~sigh.~
