Mine Train at rope drop

Since I am snowed in, I am working on plans for our trip to Disney the week of June 7th for my family of four (dh, dd's ages 16 and 10, and me). We haven't been since Mine Train opened. If we arrive at 8:30 am for a 9:00 opening, about what time can we expect to be finished with Mine Train if we go there first thing?

Park will open closer to 8:45 am and you should be done with 7DMT about 9 am. You might be able to save a few minutes on the back end by arriving even earlier than 8:30 if you can.

I think 8:15 is probably ideal. Go to either the left or right side of the train station when you get there and be patient.

Okay, thanks. I'm sure we can get there by 8:15. Thanks for the pictures too.

Although I agree with the PP about arriving early, it makes a huge difference how fast your family is at getting toward the front of the pack going to 7DMT. Toward the front, and it will be a walkon. More in the middle, and the line can build to 30-40 minutes quickly.

We were about middle of the pack for EMH last Thursday morning, and the wait was 60 minutes when we reached the ride. It seems like the entire crowd is headed that way at rope drop..

And this was during EMH's? Wow. I just posted a thread about my RD strategy on my EMH day, that included trying to get in 7D, but now I'm rethinking that strategy! I won't wait 60 minutes for it

Get there about 30-45 min prior to opening and situate yourself as close to one of the entrances as possible. The closer to the front your are, the less time you'll wait in line. It sounds crazy, but it's true. If you get back in the pack at opening, your wait will be much longer. But walk briskly behind the CM's with the rope, no need to be pushy, they hate that:rolleyes1

Better yet - get a FP for 7DMT, take a left at the castle instead of a right, then ride Splash, POTC, and BTM basically by yourself for a hour or two.

Try and get a FPP for it instead and head to Splash and BTM and ride them unhindered. That will be fun :) Also try for a FPP for Space Mountainnas that is in the same area of the park as the Mine Train. The Mine Train park opening surge is unpleasant and brings out the worst in people.

Agree with the second part. Frontierland is awesome at RD. Truly deserted. We rode HM,SM and BTMRR multiple times over fall break. Met Chip n Dale with no wait outside the shooting gallery. It was really nice. :). The RD stampede always makes me uncomfortable. We did it at DHS for TSM and I hated rushing through the park like that.

Was going to ask about this... I'd been wondering if the FP+ system had alleviated the mad rush to the headliners at RD, I guess not. I too have done and hated the TSMM RD madness and would not do that again. I like the suggestion above to go to Frontier Land first and FP 7DMT if you can get one.

I am using Touring Plans which was really accurate when we used it in 2013 (Pre FP+) and it says that 7DMT will have a 12 minute wait at 8:00 (on a 7:00 EMH morning during Spring Break). So I guess that can't be right?

I wouldn't waste opening on SDMT unless I didn't have a FP+ and/or I wanted to ride it multiple times and badly enough that I was willing to give up riding a ton of other things that are walk on. It's a fun ride- but it's not the end all be all ride and not worth the sacrifice to us.

Thanks everyone. I have changed my plans to going to BTMRR and Splash first one day and trying to get a fpp for mine train later in the day. Those are our favorites anyway. :)

We found the same to be true in November...adventureland and frontierland were incredibly empty until at least 10:30, if not even 11am. If you can get a fp+ for the mine train, I would...or, if riding it near closing time is an option I'd go for that over RD. RD headed back to Fantasyland, even going around the castle to the right, is just crazy busy..or at least it was on our trip. We got a lot more done in AL and Frontierland.

I would not expect a 12 min wait with resort guests being allowed in for an hour prior.

been to MK many times but never done rope drop.... I've always heard it is crazy and with a wheelchair guest in my party, we've always been scared to try it. that and I prefer to sleep until 8 or 9, get to the parks around 10 or 11, and stay out late (our kid is all grown up, but we are not, so we prefer late night after dark hehe)....

anyway, I just saw they did a whole show and everything at rope drop, and then the CMs walk the crowd to the back of the part to prevent a stampede. I had no idea. I thought they just literally dropped a rope and everyone took off lol so I'm a bit intrigued to try it once just to see the show and maybe get in a few rides before the lines grow.

so I'm wondering, I read about a separate line that forms to see anna and elsa. is this still there? how does it work? do they give you a wrist band or something? otherwise how do they know if you were in the line before the rope drop?

where do most people go at rope drop? anything to be avoided? what's the best place to go? I love POTC and peter pan, and I like not waiting in line for them even more! lol

If you want an alternate strategy, we find the line to be much shorter later in the evening. On a recent visit, we were able to ride 7D twice during the last half hour of operation.

The posted wait was 80 minutes, with an actual wait of 20 the first time then 10 for the 2nd trip.

I found this to be a more efficient use of time than early morning.
