Hi. Strange question hope somebody can help. We are coming next week to stay at wonderful AKV. I use milton sterilising fluid back home ( UK ) . Not because we have little ones sadly ( if only ! ) but because of a drug I am on that compromises my immune system. So DW uses it to wash all my mugs etc to prevent infections for me ( I am disabled ) . I was wondering if I should bring some ( we are from the UK ) or if you have heard of this product and we can buy it in Walmart or somewhere similar ( have rental car ). Was thinking of washing my refillable mug etc with it. Over here it's mainly used to clean baby bottles etc. it might carry a different name or you might have a different but similar product which is fine?

Hi. Never heard of Milton Wash. I just googled it and could not find it. If you know that works for you, I would just bring some along. I wouldn't risk it with a product you have never used before.

Thanks. It's called Milton Sterilising Fluid. Out if interest what do you use over there to sanitise baby bottles etc?

Never heard of it. Is it a mouthwash? Something you clean with? My guess is that we have similar products here but I agree, better bring it with you if you don't want to risk not having it.

Most people just wash baby bottles in hot water and soap. Many use Dawn dish detergent since it is non toxic. This is the same soap used to clean animals affected by oil spills.

Some still boil bottles in a pot, or steam in a crock pot.

I googled it and it looks like it is only available in stores in the UK, but online in the US. You should bring it with you since it works for you instead of looking for something different that may cause a reaction. Have a wonderful trip!

Thank you for the info :-)

Yes I think I will! Thank you :-)

My kids are grown up, but I nursed them so we didn't mess with bottles much at all. I agree, though, that most people just use dish soap and hot water. When I was a baby people used to boil bottles but not so much anymore. Also, lots of moms who use bottles now use those drop-in bags so really there is only the nipple to wash.

I think a lot of new moms start off very nervous and want to disinfect everything that the baby touches. As the baby gets older the parents relax about it. Once they start crawling around on the floor they get into everything, I always said my kids were building up their immunity :thumbsup2

But yes, if you have immune issues and need the product you use then bring it for sure, you don't want to risk getting ill.

Have a great trip!!!

I was curious so looked up the formula of Milton steralizing fluid. Her in the US it is known as bleach or Clorax. Clorax does sell a spray formula suitable for sanitizing plastic baby toys and surfaces that does not need to be rinsed. Widely available at any store or supermarket.

I just researched Milton's and it contains 2% sodium hypocholorite, which is also known as bleach. I guess it would be similar to the bleach spray daycares use on toys at the end of the day.

I just did some googling, and I see that Milton's sells Milton Maximum Protection Sterilizing Tablets (at least one seller on Amazon has them in a 28 tablet pack). Maybe your best bet would be to buy the tablet version of this product and bring it with you, it certainly would be easier to transport than liquid sterilizer.

Alternately, have your wife wash your things with soap and water then rinse in a bleach/water solution. Clorox is the name brand of one of the most common liquid bleaches that you will find in stores in the US, but virtually every grocery store sells their own store brand one as well. If I remember correctly, for every nine parts of water you add one part Clorox (or other brand) Bleach (so nine cups of water plus one cup of bleach, for example).

Hmm - just thought you might not be able to take Milton's on the plane (frequent overseas traveler here) - if that is the case here is another link for Clorox how to make a solution for baby feeding items - http://m.clorox.com/clorox-cleaning-and-laundry-advisor/cleaning/feeding-items

Anyway - have a great trip - LOVE AKL/AKV!:goodvibes

How useful and how kind! Thank you so much! First time at AKV for us. We are DVC and always stay at home resort SSR but love to visit AKL. So we thought we would try it looks lovely! So looking forward to it! Staying at Kidani :-)

Thank you. I am so grateful for all the wonderful advise. I have had an infection before from the hot tub and the refillable mug it was really quite bad so it's very helpful to me I can get similar products or bring tablets. Plus no more going in the pool or hot tub for me doctor says if you could see the bacteria normal folk would not go in let alone me. I try not to think about it lol..last year I used disposable cups at the mug refill but sometimes even though I show my refillable mug CM get funny. Extra cost I guess. Then I purchased cups from walmart you know those red disposable dixie types. They still weren't happy....
