How intense is the motion on this ride? I know I won't be able to tolerate the screens- I cannot do FoP at ALL, just have to hunker down with my eyes closed, but it's manageable because there is minimal motion. I just watched a YouTube and am feeling queasy, so I am pretty sure this one is out, but was just wondering how much of the motion is screen-induced as opposed to actual motion.

Also... I noticed the voice directs "pilot on the right" or "pilot on the left" to do certain things. Does that really have an effect on the experience? I'm just wondering if you get a "dud" pilot, do you get a "dud" ride, or is it all pretty much pre-programmed?

The pilots very much control the direction that the ship travels. I’ve crashed that thing so many times I can’t believe they still let me drive! FWIW I think the ride is outstanding, sometimes even more so if you get bad pilots and you have a large group riding together that positively interacts with one another. It can be one of the most fun attractions to ride in that sense.

I don’t get motion sickness, but my guess is that if FoP is too much for you, MFSR will be too.

It's a little like Star Tours in the way that the car moves along with what's on the screen to create the motion effects. Some in my family get motion sickness due to the screens and will no longer ride, since the screens are closer on Smuggler's Run than in Star Tours which is a bigger and more spacious area.

Pilots make all the difference. First time my younger daughter and husband flew. They were terrible and crashed into many things. very queasy experience. Next time we had 1 good pilot plus empty pilot (auto pilot) and it was so much better.

I can do FOP if I close my eyes once or twice. Not so with Smuggler's Run, it is definitely more intense. I ended up closing my eyes for most of the ride and didn't ride it again when my kids did a second time.

It’s funny that you said “Millennium Force” as that’s a coaster at Cedar Point that is considered one of the most aggressive thrill rides on earth.

The motion is pretty intense, especially if the pilots intentionally (e.g., my DD and DSiL) or unintentionally (e.g., myself) keep careening from one direction to another and crashing into things. I agree - if FoP isn’t for you, MFSR isn’t either. Sorry!

Hahaha, changed it!
DH's family members live in Sandusky/Clyde/Bellevue. We've been to Cedar Point many times and Millennium Force is one of DD's favorite rides; I pretty much typed that by muscle memory, I think! DH has a "height thing" but rode this anyhow, not knowing how high it was. Basically it'd been down and we were passing by just as it reopened. BIL said "OMG we gotta go NOW!" so DH did, without having seen it. When we walked by later in the day and he saw how high and steep it is, I swear his knees went weak!

First time I rode it was in January, I was one of the pilots. Once we “hit” warp speed (or whatever it’s called), I was in a nauseous panic, looking for an emergency stop button for the rest of the ride.

For FoP, I close my eyes for the fast movements and I can’t look around, and I feel woozy for about an hour afterward.

I was an engineer only so far and felt you could just do your “job” and not look at the screen. If you do that I’d say you’d be fine.
