Milk!!

The small grocery store I like to shop at has had weekly coupons for a gallon of milk for $1.79. I've been able to get 2 gallons there per week. The other, larger chain grocery store usually has milk for $2.99. This past weekend, they had a special promotion for $1.99 per gallon. We go through @ 4-5 gallons of milk per week, so I'm always happy to see it on sale.

Milk by me is 3.29/gallon. We don't go through that much of it. I usually pour out much of it. Most of the time my kids aren't big milk drinkers.

Eggs have also gone up sky high. I went to get bagels this morning, haven't done that in a while. OMG, it was 10.20 for 1 dozen!! I wanted to faint!! Last time I got them they were 7 something, and it wasn't that long ago..2 months?? INSANE.

Food, gas, taxes, insurance, everything is going up but salaries. It is really nuts!! :confused3

I got a gallon of 2% at Walmart yesterday and I think it was $4.39 or something like that. I LOVE milk so I guess I'll pay whatever price they charge. :rolleyes1

At our local shaws it's 3.99/gallon. I can get it for about $3.50 at Walmart though. My BJ's ran out and I just have renewed yet so I am not sure what that is.

I buy 5 gallons a week, organic. :scared1:
Cost? Anywhere from $5.99-$7.00...and that is in small town, Texas.

We do too, and the cost is insane. DH is convinced that not only can he taste a difference between conventional and organic, but he can taste a difference between organic brands:confused3 If I shop, I buy whatever organic milk I can get the cheapest that week. We go through 3-4 gallons a week. If DH shops, he comes home with $$$Horizon$$$ brand no matter what:eek: It drives me crazy because it's usually much more $$ than organic store brand or whatever brand is on sale.

everyday price at CVS is $2.99 for a gallon and the stores have it on sale a lot for $2 per gallon. Walmart's everyday price right now is $3.09.

We go through 7-8 gallons per week but I just use my ECBs for the majority of it.

Here in my area we have a Braum's ice cream store. Their milk is from hormone-free cattle, and cheaper than the grocery store or WM Supercenter. Also, Walgreens is almost always cheaper than WM or the grocery store. IMO, Braum's milk tastes the best.

THe kids and I drink powdered milk all the time. I grew up with it, so it's what were all used to. DH is a 2% guy, and there's not budging on that one!:sad2:

While we are at it, I'm investing in chickens!! What's up with the price of eggs jeez

Trader Joe's milk is about $1 cheaper than at Shaws and Stop and Shop.
Also, TJ's eggs are $.99 for a dozen X-large.
I get most of my food now at TJ's because they are cheaper than the grocery stores around here. Plus I have 3 boys working there and get a 10% discount.

I love living in Wisconsin!! We get Milk for much less than that! Most weeks I don't even pay for milk because we get 2 gallons free with the cereal that's on sale.

I grew up drinking milk that was 1/2 powdered milk and 1/2 regular. Since we had a family of 7, I got used to bringing up a "frozen mixed gallon" from the freezer just about every day. The first few times I tasted whole milk I almost gagged - it was too rich for my taste. DH had a rough time adjusting to 2%, then 1% and finally no fat but it has never been a problem for me!

Welcome to my world. Milk is $6 a gallon on base (which is at cost) and at Walmart it's a loss-leader at $5.20 a gallon.

Costco is the cheapest, because I prefer organic/hormone free and they sell three 1/2 gallons for $8 there. That's a bargain!! ONE 1/2 gallon is about $6 at the commissary!

**edited to add--I'm in Hawaii. Price of eggs are $2.79 a dozen, gas is only $3.39 on base though.

We don't have Trader Joe's in FL yet:sad1: We lived near one before we moved here, though, and I used to do most of our food shopping there. Their prices were great, and I loved their products!! I feel like I pay a mint to get similar products at other stores now:sad2:

Well I am glad that I am not the only one!!

rparmfamily, WOW, even such high prices at the commissary, what a rip! I had heard that it was expensive over there. I hope that your COLA accounts for it.

Thanks for all the suggestions about mixing the powdered milk with regular and all. I will have to try it. Man, I bought two gallons on Thursday and we MAYBE have a quart left for breakfast for four tomorrow. *SIGH*

I am not a big Aldi fan but the grand opening special last week has milk for 1.99/gallon and eggs were .99/dozen. They even had a 5 off 30 coupon in the paper. For those prices, it was worth the trip.

We did. We can buy a hen for $6. But they eat feed that also has went up $2.50 in bag the last 18 months ($7.60 a bag). We have 23 chickens and get 15 eggs a day, but we have some old (12) hens who don't lay every day anymore. We will get up to 20 or more eggs as we get nearer to summer. We get all the eggs we need and sale the rest for $1.25 a dozen. We come out about $20 ahead each month.

I buy 1% and it is $5.27 a gallon here in Tennessee!
