My son has a allergy to milk. Its not severe. If he gets any milk it can cause a little rash on his face and a runny/stuffy nose. Nothing life or death though. With that being said we normally stick to chicken strips, grilled chicken, hamburgers ect when traveling with him. My main concern though is dessert. Our DDP comes with dessert for our sit down meals. If I contact the chef before we go will they do a special dessert or soy ice cream for him?

Yes, at Table Service restaurants they will find a dessert for him. Make sure to note it when making your ADR's and when you get to the restaurant ask to speak to the chef. They usually have rice dream ice cream available. When we went in May 2005, my ds was allergic to milk, which he has since outgrown, and on our last trip dd is allergic to eggs.

When we ate at Crystal Palace 2 years ago they had a dairy-free brownie that was really good. It seems to me that the chicken strips may have had dairy so you should check the ingredients at restaurants.

My DGD has allergies to dairy and eggs. The Chefs made sure that her food was safe for her to eat and that she had plenty to choose from. we also worried about dessert but she was served soy ice cream everywhere. She also had Silk at every TS and CS restaurant.

Head over to the DISabilities board for more info, they were so helpful when my DD went there for suggestions.

This is good information for many of us. My grandson is on a diet that is dairy free, gluten free, soy free. That certainly limits what you eat, right now he is little so no WDW yet for him, but when he can go you can bet we will be looking into dietary needs for him..

My DGD had not had a waffle or a pancake since she had been diagnosed. The Chef at Shutters was a Chef at Pop and she told us that they are trained in over 40 food allergies and that if you tell them what your restrictions are they will do everything possible to find reasonable alternatives for you. She told us that the CS chefs could make Kady her special breakfast. I can tell you it was worth every penny we paid for that extra vacation to see her enjoy her Mickey waffles and her pancakes. Then the Chef told me how to make them. I admit that when I called my DH to tell him we were both in tears, such a little thing but it made a world of difference to a little girl who never complained about missing special treats.

Talk to the Chefs, they will help you.

If you have ADR's for sit down restaurants call back and note the allergies on the reservation. A chef will come to your table and walk you through a buffet or the menu. My son has multiple allergies and last Aug was our first trip with him. We are going back in July again and he cannot wait. There are even safe snacks in the hotels made by Divies. We took some jelly beans, brownies and caramel pop corn home for him!
Counter service can be tough. I understand that there is dairy in some of the buns that they use but it never bothered my son enough. At counter service he usually had apple slices for a dessert, jello or a popscicle. sit down dinners he got tofutie, rice dream or sorbet.

We just got back and my twins (4y/o) are allergic to milk. Note the allergy on your ADRs. When you get to a restaurant, tell the waitress/hostess, they will see that a chef comes out to speak with you. At all of the TS my DDs were given soy ice cream for dessert. At Sci Fi, they made them a milk free milk shake. At chef Mickey's they gave them soy ice cream and a Divvies chocolate chip cookie.

At POP they made them dairy free Mickey waffles (again, mention allergy and they will get the chef).

The CS are a little harder ... when you get to the register tell them there is a food allergy and they will call for the manager or chef. That person will then go over the ingredients with you and cook the stuff themselves. This tends to take a bit longer though since the CS were always sooo busy when we were there.

I think the only desserts at the CS places were fruit and jello.

The grilled chicken was usually fine. Hot dogs were fine. The buns are not. Some places offer the ENer-G Tapioca dinner rolls for hamburgers or hot dogs if you are interested. The chicken nuggets were all made with milk.

Have a great trip!

I just wanted to add that you can find wheat and dairy free (vegan) waffles at some grocery stores. They are actually really good and my husband who can eat anything can't taste the difference between the safe waffles and normal ones. I find them at the King Soopers here in the organic frozen food section. I have a recipe for safe waffles but it's a lot easier just to grab a few out of the freezer in the morning.

I have a soy allergy and they work through it amazing! Disney does not let it come in the way of your magical stay. Makes me happy that I am not as limited as what I have been on other vacations

My sister asks why we always want to go back to Disney instead of other places. Keeping the Magic out of it and how much we enjoy enjoying her, Kady would have much less to choose from in any other place. For a day or two she would be fine but after that the selections would begin to get old and she then would feel "different".

I have a milk allergy - let your server know when you get there & they will have a chef come out & walk you through what is available. Disney is the one place I never have to worry - I have had special meals made for me - special desserts- I know 1900 Park Fare has Toffutti ice cream. I got soy milk at Crystal Palace. At the garden grill, they went to a eighboring resutarant to get somethings for me that they didn't carry in their restaurant.
