military tickets?

Your mom or dad has to activate the ticket at any ticket window, you do not need to be there. Once the ticket is activated you are gtg. If you tied the pre purchase voucher to your MB (assuming you are staying insight) you will not need to even get the ticket from your parents once it is activated and tied to you. The magic band will be enough.

Great to know that everyone doesn't have to be there. Cast members at the gate have always asked to see everyone in our group and have them sign the backs of their tickets. Seems to be on a case by case basis in terms of the CM working. Or maybe if we hadn't all been there, they would have been okay with it but we haven't had the chance to find out since everyone is always together to activate tickets :goodvibes

Anyone know if the tickets can be activated at downtown Disney?

Yes, they can be activated at Customer Service. We did this the last few times the afternoon we arrived. Much preferred to activating at the gate IMO.

Awesome! Thanks! And just to be certain, our days start when we enter the first park not at the time of activation?

uhh no not silly at all. the benefit is for THE SERVICEMEMBER.

they conceded that spouses should be allowed to take advantage as the SM is often deployed or otherwise TAD and cannot actually get the tickets in time.

As a service member who has been serving 15 years and been deployed I agree with OP that it is a very silly rule but unfortunately it is necessary due to people abusing the system. I don't blame Disney at all for this but do blame my Brothers and Sisters who took advantage of a tremendous gift.

The park days start when first used.

I do not know for sure if the "use clock" starts at activation or when first used. I suspect it is when first used because I know of other military families who have activated tickets and used them later. Not 100% sure on this though. Cheshire Figment used to answer questions like this for me but he has been absent lately as discussed in another post.

We are using the park days all at once so the time the tickets are good for doesn't matter too much. Thanks for all your help! It's a good reason to wander over to DTD the night of arrival!

Just an FYI, DH and I have AP, but wanted to enjoy the park with my sister flying in from NY. In March, my husband went to the local base to get an AFS ticket, and we did not have to activate it at the park. It actually wasn't even a voucher, it was a normal plastic Disney RFID card. I connected it to her MDE account, and I was able to make fast passes. This totally blew my mind, as before my husband and I had AP, we used the AFS tickets, but received vouchers. This was all from the same ITT office.

Interesting. I did pay for one ticket at full price outside of the 6 AFS vouchers and it was a card. I was able to link them all to MDE and make FP+ at my 60 day window.

Question - have you actually used that AFS ticket in the park for entry yet?

From my understanding you could use that number on the ticket to make make FP+ reservations and link it to an MDE account but in order to use it for admission it still had to be activated.....

I have gone in before parents wake up or to a different park without mom or dad and activated a ticket with no issue or mention of needing another person to activate. It was a very recent trip but who knows? Maybe a fluke? :scratchin

I'm not being disrespectful or playing the system, my ID is valid and updated. My dad did actually sacrifice 20 years of his life, deployed, so that we can have ID's and all the big and small perks that come with them. :confused3
BFF and I only intend to purchase one ticket each for ourselves with our separate ID's. I feel like it makes more sense to take away the ability to purchase multiple tickets from sm's children than it does to take away purchasing ability overall. One ticket per child's ID per year? Maybe I can politely suggest it to Shades of green  :goodvibes

Like I've said though, we'll make it work! And it is totally a shame that people took advantage of the generosity and caused the inconvenience to others. :guilty:

The Armed Forces Salute tickets are a special issue ticket, only 4 days in length, at a great discount price. These are the tickets that have to be activated at a Disney gate by the SM or Spouse. Also available for purchase at your base or SOG are regular Disney Magic Your Way tickets, which are sold at a slight discount off regular price, plus you aren't charged sales tax on them. These MYW tickets are already activated when sold. Perhaps this was the type of ticket you used in your past trip. You would have been able to enter a park with a MYW ticket with no stop at a ticket booth.

This has been our experience as well. We bought MYW tickets at SOG one time and just went right in, but we have had to activate the 4 day tickets at whatever park was our first one of that visit. We just got some for our May trip at the local base, and they were paper tickets this time, not plastic. They linked to our account just fine so we could set up our FP times.

Yes, we did use it already. Went in March, and my sister used it as her ticket. I thought it was so strange when DH came home from the base with a Minnie Mouse plastic RFID ticket. Maybe it is just a new process with our base, we are only an hour and 45 minutes away from Disney. Thinking about it now, she didn't even need the card. We brought it just in case, but because we stayed onsite, she just used her magic band. We never went to the ticket line to have it or the band activated.

That's totally possible...and Disney may be testing that method out. Or the ITT agent charged you for an AFS ticket and gave you a regular one.

I'm going to piggy-back a question on here. We have the 4 day military hoppers linked to our accounts for now, but will be in the parks 5 days, so we are going to buy a single day ticket. Here's the issue I need help with.

If we buy single day tickets to AK, link them to our bands, and use them the first day (PRIOR to activating the military hopper passes on our bands) would that work? We don't want to have both activated because i'm not sure how it would know which one to use (the single day or the hopper, or maybe somehow both). We have FP+ linked already under the hoppers, and also do not want that to get messed up. But we can only FP 4 days right now since that's all we have tickets for at the moment.

Has anyone else ever done something like this that may be able to give insight as to how you made it work?

Tried posting this already but I guess it didn't go through :confused3 BFF and I are both dependents and wondering if you absolutely have to have the sponsor present in order to purchase military discounted tickets from shades of green? We just don't want to run into any unpleasant surprises :crazy2:

As a dependent how old are you? Is This your father, husband? Isn't the sponsor going to park with you?

You can have them prioritized on the bands so that it uses the one day ticket first.
