Asking for a friend, he can get a Military Ticket, but can't buy it until he arrives at WDW.

1. He was told he can buy military park ticket at a kiosk at Disney Springs? I thought they could only get tickets at Shades of Green. If true, where exactly is kiosk located?

2. He was told discount was 30% off gate price. Is that correct?

3. He can't book FP+ reservations until he actually buys his ticket and links it to his MDE account, correct?

4. He wants to buy a ticket for his girlfriend who is traveling with him, but she is not military. Is that OK?

Thank you!

1) I don't know of any ticket kiosks at Disney Springs. There are Guest Relations locations there that can sell tickets, but I believe the only military ones they can sell are the Salute tickets. (Salute tickets are a 4-day ticket with either park hopper, water park fun & more, or both.)

2) Depends on which ticket he gets. The Salute promotion tickets are extremely discounted, the regular ones less so, but they're still not a bad deal.

3) Yes - but there are ways to order tickets ahead of time from either Shades of Green or a military base ticket office.

4) Yes. Qualified military members can purchase up to 6 Salute tickets per calendar year for family/friends (exceptions can be made for large immediate families), and I would guess the restriction is less strict for the non-Salute tickets.

Check out militarydisneytips.com - they explain it all a lot better than I can, since I work at a ticket booth and only sell the Salute tickets.

I believe if he bought the tickets on base Or at Shades of Green he would not only get a discount BUT also save sales tax. If he bought them at DTD i think he will end up paying sales tax.

Be aware there are two different military tickets available.

One is the "Armed Forces Salute," which we get at Shades of Green directly. Because of that, I do not know if it is available at the gate or not. These are four-day Park Hoppers for a whopping $196. Yeah. You read that right. For less than the gate price of a two-day, one-park ticket you get a four-day Park Hopper. Nothing, not CM or Florida discounts, comes even close to beating this price so far as I know. Honestly, I don't know why someone would go with anything else unless their vacation was going longer than four days.

There's also the "Stars and Stripes" ticket that is the discounted on a Magic Your Way ticket. That one you simply build a ticket the way you would any other.

You can always call the MWR in Orlando and they can mail you tickets. My mother just did this. They would send you a voucher that you exchange at any Disney ticket window for the actual window (make sure the person doing the exchange has their military ID).

Details are on the Shades of Green website.

You can pre-purchase Armed Forces Salute tickets through any MWR ( ours here in NOLA definitely ships. 504-678-3508.) and link them to your MDE account . You will then be able to make FP at the sixty day mark. They are $192.50 at our ITT office. He can take his girlfriend. He only gets six tickets per year and he must be with her to activate them at Guest relations.

There is just no need to wait until he gets there and miss out on FP.

...The other big disadvantage is you can't pre-schedule your fastpasses, as you pick up the tickets at the park.

All great info in your post except this. As others have noted, you can pre-purchase Military Salute tickets at a base ITT office, or even over the phone with SoG. Several ITT bases around the country also will ship them to you for a fee. The ones you order from SoG come already activated and can be linked directly to your MDE account to pre-book Fastpasses. The ones you would get from an ITT office are actually called exchange certificates, and must be activated at a ticket window or guest relations when you arrive, by showing a military ID. But even the exchange certificates can be linked to MDE and will entitle you to pre-book fastpasses, either 60 days in advance if you are staying at a Disney resort, or 30 days out if you are offsite or at SoG. We use the military discount and stay at a Disney resort.

Thank you for the correction. I will edit it out to avoid confusion.

By getting the 4 day hopper and having them activated at the park is not that difficult. I just did it in Dec and took a few min. But what is nice is that you are still able to link them to your account and be able to do the fast passes and all.

Thank you so much for information!

He is going 7 days, so if the Salute Ticket is only 4 days, then would he purchase a 3 day ticket at ticket window at the same time at regular gate price?

He gets 6 Salute Tickets per year so if there are only 2 of them he can purchase 4 tickets and use them back to back. Even if they don't use the 8th day it's still the cheaper option.

Thanks for clarifying Beamerball. Yes, its only him and his GF, so he can buy 4 - 4 day Salute tickets. He would link 2 tickets to his MDE account and 2 tickets to her MDE account so they could book FP ahead of time.
