We are going to WDW in December traveling the 3-16. We plan on buying 10 day Magic your way PH passes for our family of 4 since we're going to be there for 13 nights. We have friends (mom/son) who are coming to join us for 4 days mid trip and we'd like to buy the Military salute tickets for them to lower their cost.
The wording on the website concerning using the Salute tickets say that a military member must activate them. Will my scenario work to purchase the tickets for them when we purchase ours and then just activating theirs where they arrive?

Thanks for helping me figure this out.....I don't want to misspeak and then cause issues later.

If the military tickets are valid in Dec. (normally they decide how they will change things at the end of Sept) and I haven't looked at the end date of the current tickets. You can activate them when you arrive or when the arrive as long as the military member is around and you have their full names, address, and birth dates. Those tickets do not have a 14 day window on them so it will not matter when they are activated the days don't start until the are used at the gate no matter when they are activated.

Who is the military member ? Is he or she going to be on the trip with you ? If they are then yes the tickets can be activated when your friends get there some Cm require everyone to be present when activating the ticket. If the military member is not going to be present on the trip then no you can not use the salute tickets.

I strongly suggest you google "military disney tips". That should lead you to a great website that has all the info you will need. What you are talking about are actually called "Armed Forces Salute" tickets. I am not military but my parents qualify for the discounts. I would not have been able to purchase the tickets for them. If I wanted to pay for them I would have just written them a check to reimburse them. I don't think I would have been able to use my credit card with their name.

They did this all remotely via Shades of Green. There is a process to fax/email the necessary identification and the tickets they received are "activated". It did cost them an additional $10 to have the tickets shipped to them via Fedex (and then they weren't home when they were delivered and a signature is required- had to explain that Fedex would return the next day!!). They received plastic tickets that look like a regular ticket (not paper or cardboard). My mom read me the numbers on the back and I linked them to their MDE accounts (which I control for my sanity). It immediately showed up and we are ready to make FP when the time comes.
The process took about ten days total. If you go this route I would make sure to leave plenty of time to get the tickets. First your friend has to call Shades of Green and leave a message. Then you wait for them to call you back. That took two days. Then they send you an email and you go from there.

Have an amazing trip!!

Good explanation on the Shades part, but I do think they are talking about the Salute ticket. Those are 4 day only with hopper or water parks and the ability to add the other. Price is 196 or 230 with hopping and water parks. The Armed Forces Salute ticket is ever so slightly discounted available only at Shades, too, but you can get it for longer periods of time.

We just got our ticket from Shades and the poster is correct. Allow yourself plenty of time to call, return forms, wait for their call, then shipping. Worth it for the Salute price!
