MY FAMILY AND I ARE GOING TO DISNEY JULY 17TH-22ND. MY FRIEND IS WILLING TO GAVE ME 4) 5 IN 1 DISNEY PASSES THAT HE PURCHASED ON POST FOR $99. THEY ARE LIKE THE 5 DAY PARKHOPPERS. WOULD I BE ABLE TO USE THESE WITHOUT A MILITARY ID? I WOULD HATE TO GET THERE AND GET EMBARASSED. I THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING THEM AND JUST BE PREPARED TO PURCHASE MY PH'S IF I HAVE TO. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Simple answer: If the passes are already purchased (do you have the paper tickets in your hands?), then they're good as gold. There's no restrictions on them or names attached to them once they're purchased.

However, if you need to purchase them or pick them up, you're going to have a problem. Non-military personel that are eligible, such as a spouse, have an ID card for such things, and you either have to have your active military ID or one of these dependent cards. In other words, as a spouse (DW is military), I can make the purchase and hand the passes to my friends. But a note from me saying let my friends buy these passes doesn't cut it.

So if you've got the passes in-hand, relax and enjoy Disney.

::raises hand politely:: I have a question. I read that you could only buy them at the gate at the respective park. So, did your friend already purchase them at his post?

Millitary passes can not be bought at any gates. AT WDW itself, they must be bought at Shades of green (www.shadesofgreen.org). Check their website for more info on this great hotel (they are currently remodeling it so they are tempoary at the Contemporay Resort).

But some bases may have tickets for you to buy before you leave home :)

But seeing how your in Cali. you might be talking about Disneyland, and that might be diffrent if you plan to go there (just making sure its clear ;) :p )

FYI, DW has, in the past, been able to purchase passes at Ft. Bragg in Savannah, and can have them made available at Ft. Drum in Carthage, NY.

When DW bought the passes where did she go? I want to tell my DB and my SIL where to check on base. They are AF though so don't know if it would be the same or not.

I have no idea about Ft. Drum. Her uncle works there as a fireman, and it was one of those matters of "go see ol' Fred." And I wasn't with her at Brag, but it's apparently part of their Commissary. I know it wasn't hard to find once she went in there. Getting in after 911 wasn't the easiest thing for non-active military (DW's a Corps Engineer). There's no doubt when we drove over, the front guard made it apparent it would be helpful if she'd drop me off at Hojo's for a burger while she went in. But I think somewhere within the commissary is a sort of travel agent.

I was kind of thinking the BX (Army's PX) but wasn't sure, been a while since I was military. I'll have to tell them to check it out, maybe their CO knows something.
Thanks Pat

Actually I needed the extra pass for a friend who's going to WDW with me in Sept. I've got AP's on both coasts and if I did a DL countdown, I'd have to do a couple a week. =)

It's starting to seem like this is going to follow the usual Disney conflicting information. The Disney website specifically said they could be purchased at any Disney Theme Park, and everyone seems to be saying other things too.

Since the original post was about the Military Salute Tickets -- the Disney Military Salute the 5-day $99 passes can only be bought at WDW. The Disney Military Salute passes for Disneyland for $39 must be purchased at Disneyland. The military member or spouse must be the one to purchase the tickets. A friend cannot purchase them in advance and give them to you unless you live near a park. You cannot purchase WDW tickets at Disneyland nor can you buy Disneyland Tickets at WDW.

I think that person thought that I was talking about Disneyland since I live so close to it. (In regards to my question) My question, which seems to be muddled, was in regards to the OP's statement about a friend buying passes on base. I was specifically asking about WDW since I'll be there and a friend will need tickets.

oh, silly me, i forgot about thoes.... :jester: I sopose since this just went into effect, what ever the WDW website/"Offical" press releaces say, thats what you do.. hehehe

You can use them, b/c as a Military family we have to purchase them (though I was under the impression they had to be purchased at the gate) but we are allowed to share them with whoever we'd like :)

I called my closest base which is Ft Worth Worth JRB (I have bought hoppers there before) and was told that the $99 hoppers and Free Hopper must be purchased at the WDW gate.

Hope this helps clarify in addition to the WDW website this seems consistent.

As it has already been posted the Military Member or Spouse with Military ID must be present to purchase these passes at the gate. I also believe that they can only purchase the number of passes for guest physically with them. I don't think that my active duty husband can go just purchase 5 tickets and pass them out to friends. That it is not the idea behind the promotion.

There are all sorts of military passes out there right now.

1. These are the multi-day hoppers without plus options, or hoppers with plus options. These are available at MWR offices on Navy bases or Recreation offices on Air Force bases.

2. The military salute tickets, which are free to the active duty military member, and the $99 dependent passes (total of 5 available to purchase) available only at the WDW ticket windows.
(There is a similar salute ticket program for DLR in CA).

3. The discounted military passes available through Shades of Green, which includes APs and UPH tickets (called Stars and Stripes passes).

Hope that this information helps someone!!

My husband is Military and we used the free ticket and discounted ticket offer after 9-11 (Ithink this is a similar offer) The Military members ticket can only be used by the militry member and ID is required the first time you use it and scan your finger.....the family passes (the $99 ones) are only supposed to be used for family and friends that are physically there at the same time as the military member. Nobody checked ID, but I think if they do they have the right to refuse entry. Personally, I would make sure before I get there.
