Military draft and gays - debate

We had an interesting discussion today. Someone brought up that with the state of current affairs, military draft within the next decade seem more lkely than ever.

I flippantly said, "well since the borders are tighter than before and the national guard no longer assures you of staying out of harms way, why not just say you are gay?"

Should sexual preference exclude you from the military and the draft?

sexual preference should have nothing to do with military service. anyone that can do the job should be permitted to serve if they choose to. it's not like there aren't homosexuals in the military already.

I am curious about those who specifically think that gays have no place in the military feel the same way about the draft.

That's a good point. Declaring yourself a homosexual would get you out of service, wouldn't it.

Maybe the military brass will need to be reminded of the 'don't ask, don't tell' protocol?...''don't ask me to serve if I can't tell you the truth about my sexuality''

FWIW, I am totally against a draft being reinstituted, now or in the future...(unless something seriously changes between now and then, like massive population decrease)
