We are taking my brother's 2 kids to Disney this fall. Since he is military, can he buy all our tickets and get the discount, or does he have to be with us?

The tickets they seel at the local MWR are the regular Disney tickets, so yes, he can buy the tickets aheadmof time. Besides, the kids should be able to buy tickets anyway, if they bring thier ID cards.

If the kids have their ID cards with them, they can also take you to Shades of Green and tickets can be purchased there. They don't care who pays for them or who they are for, just so long as someone there has a military ID card.

I'm guessing that the kids are 10 or older correct since they have their own ID cards? If not, I would check before purchasing them at SOG unless you have a power of attorney from your brother if he is not there and you do not have your own military id. Also make sure you carry documentation giving you permission to have his children with you. I know lots of people don't think about things like that but you can't be too careful lately especially dealing with military rules.

I had forgotten about that. If the kids are under 10 (unless they do it differently now), they won't have their own ID cards yet.

I used to laugh at them when they tried to tell me my 9 1/2 year old HAD to ride in the buggy at the commissary. He was as big as I am at that age. There is no way he would fit.

My kids who are just now 7 and 10 have had their military IDs 2 or 3 years now. My ex-husband is retired and I have sole custody so I don't know if that has anything to do with them getting IDs since I take them to Dr. visits on base and such. :confused3

Passes can be purchased on Miltary bases.
Discount is there is no taxes.
Which can be big savings.

Yes, they issue IDs to children under 10 when the non-military parent has custody of children when the parents are divorced.

Actually, they are changing it quite a bit. My nephew is 4 mos old and has had his own military id since he was 1 wk old. Because of all the deployments they have started doing this as the primary care provider would have to have this to take the child to the Dr's on base or use the PX and such. Both my brother and his wife are military. It is the cutest little card though!

Just a glich in the military matrix ;). Your dn got an ID card because his parents are dual military. In the case of dual military, divorce, single military parent, or extenuating circumstances, cards can be issued early. ID cards are generally not issued until the dependent reaches their 10th birthday. DS turned 10 this year, and it's been quite the thing watching the excitement he and his friends had when they went to get their ID cards made! It's like a rite of passage around here.

Tickets purchased through MWR are "regular" tickets? I was just reading the paperwork on them, and it clearly says to use the tickets you must be able to show military id at the gate or you may be turned away... is this true?

It has never happened to us. Our friends have purchased military tickets for us many times when they travel with us.

The folks at shades of Green have let me pay for my ticket with my credit card with my friend showing her military ID.

The tickets go through the turnstyles normally with no "stop" on them to check for ID.

The only tickets I know of that "stop" to check for ID are Annual Passes and Florida Resident tickets.

Of course, now the new MYW tickets have a "stop" to check for the biometrics.

I think that there is some confusion of the type of ticket going on. Most MWR's can get regular, MYW tickets at a discount that are the same as the ones you get at the parks, or from Disney, you don not need a military id to use them. Some can also get the special tickets that are usually very deaply discounted and ONLY for curently ACTIVE duty Military members and family. These used to be called the Stars and Stripes ticket. You do need a military id to use them and you must be active duty. No retireies. It doesn't matter if you had been in the military for 35 years. Active duty includes reserve members that are on current duty with the military, as it was explained to me. Hope this helps. Please double check at a MWR for both types of tickets. And at SOG down in WDW.

the Stars and Stripes are only available at SOG. They are available to anyone who is eligable to stay at SOG. That includes retirees and reservists as well as certain govt. employees. They require a person with an ID to be present when the tickets are bought, but your guest does not have to be with you to use the ticket. For ex, you and a friend both bring your families, you go together to buy the tickets using your friends ID. Your friend does not need to show ID to get into the parks with the tickets. Stars and Stripes is the better buy then the MYW tickets usually.

Are you sure it's a glitch? They gave my DD an ID at my request, since she sometimes will go visit my parents for the weekend. I can't imagine that they wouldn't be able to get them too.

My daughter's ID picture was taken when she was five, so as you can imagine, it doesn't look a whole lot like her (she's almost 10 now!).

I just got MYW 10 day non expire, premium, with 5 pluses for $335 each at our MWR here in N.Chas, S.Carolina. This was a special order and it will take 5 to 10 working days to get the tickets here. This seemed like a good price for the tickets. It was better then the SOG price. It is not a Stars and Stripes ticket. When I called and talked to SOG they said they had discount military tickets, but the cost was more for what I got down there then here at home. The also said that there is a ticket that is the best price but ONLY for the active military duty members and family. You must have a green ID if active. It was set up as a "Thank You" for all hte guys serving during the war. They had this for the last 2 years SOG said. Now I am not down there, so I can't check it out. But I got my PAP last year from the ticket office at SOG and did save about $55/$60 off the gate price. I called to check if they could also sale me a renewal on a PAP and they can not. Oh, well.
BTW, the tickets were bought at the Navy MWR. The Air Force base doesn't want to deal with the new tickets, the MWR folks there think the new tickets are to involved and hard to deal with.

Oh, and having been a military depd. for over 35 years, it wasn't till a few years ago I found out that any Depd. can get an ID. if they qualify for it. The age doesn't matter. But you must have one by age 10 or you can not use some of the facilities. And that is the age that you are supost to carry your own ID card. I have friends that got each of their kids ID's at birth, about 7 years ago.
And in the '60's I lost several ID cards while living in Japan.. in the middle of the Vietnam war.. My dad was in a ton of trouble and I got 1 year restriction/ or till I found it. My DS, 13, had a doctor appt last week at the NavHosp and did have his ID. We had to go jump through hoops and bring it in a week latter. What a mess!
Having said all this, I got 2 PAP, and 5 other tickets at SOG last year, with only my ID. I also got 13 of the 10 day passes at MWR this week. The WHOLE family and the world is going down with me in 19 days!

so can you not even get the tickets at the AFB then? Our state only has an AFB (my bro is active duty Marine but is in our state for a while). He would have to go pretty far to get to a navy base from central ohio, lol.

Just asking since they are going to try WDW next year. Oh, and we might go with them. I should ask, though, if they get our tickets for us, do we have to get the same length tickets? We cannot stay as long as them.

Our AF MWR has both the MYW tickets and a limited number of old park hoppers. The local Army MWR has both as well.
