Military Discount Booking Question

I am about to make a reservation using the Military 40% off. My Dad is going with us and is the one who is in the Military. Does anyone know if I have to make the reservation in his name? I'm the planner in the family so I didn't know if it would be a hassle or not to have it in his name.

Thanks!
Chris

I was wondering the same thing, as my father is retired military. Because I have booked a Disney trip before, it is a lot easier for me to make the reservations. I called just to get some quotes based on the military discount, no problem. I told htem we'd call back if we decided to book the trip. However, I was unsure whether I could actually do the booking myself---I should've asked. I believe it says you need to show military ID upon checking in, so I don't really see why someone else couldn't make the reservation...I'm interested to hear if anyone has any experience with this.

Well this may or may not help, but we took a Disney Cruise in May with the military discount and I made the reservations even though my dad is the ID holder, no questions asked. We had to fax his ID over, so I bet so long as they see it upon check in you will be fine.

I plan to make our reservations for our trip to the World in December, too. So please post back if it's an issue!

Hi - I hate to step on others toes, but I too have a question. Does retired mean that they served 20+ years, or can retired simply mean they served their 4 years and were honorably discharged?

Thanks to anyone that can answer this question!

"Retired" means they actually officially retired from a career in the military. My father-in-law served 8 years and wasn't eligible for any type of discount.

As far as the PP's, I think the rooms actually have to be in the name of the person with the military ID. The Shades of Green website says "each eligible sponsor may book up to 3 rooms under their name", which makes me think the rooms have to be in their name. But, I could just be reading too far into that.

To be sure, you could always give their reservation line a call and ask: (888) 593-2242.

I don't *think* you have to book in the military member's name, but I'm not 100% sure (meaning all 3 rooms in the same name). When you call, ask them. I've called about it, and found that you can book up to 3 rooms & you need to show the ID at check-in or they will charge rack rate (I've seen on here where someone said something about faxing a copy of the ID, but I wasn't told that). Typically when you book two rooms or more, each room has the individual occuppants attached to the room, and they "link" the two or three reservations together.

If you dad is going, his name will be on 1 of the rooms anyway... when you give your info, they want EVERYONE's information that's going to be coming. So, have all names & kids' ages ready!

I was told DH must bring his ID card, or the rate will revert to rack rate--just like the poster above. He always carries his ID, anyway, but you can be sure I'll double check with him before we go to make sure it's in his wallet. :thumbsup2Don't want a rate change.:scared1:

Wanted to mention, too, it's there's no reason to fax an ID card. Disney doesn't require it, and there is plenty of personal info on an ID card that shouldn't be just faxed around. It's always prudent to protect private info. :goodvibes
