Welcome to all newcomers. To you guys in Ft. Bragg do you live on post? My DS and his DW and children lived there for 3 years. I loved it there. Ft. Bragg seems to be the place to get deployed from. Best wishes to all of you. We are so proud of all our soldiers and their faithful families.

Thank you for the kind words! We live on post and love it. We have a brand new remodeled home so its very nice and we are very close to everything. The neighborhood pool is across the street from my house so thats a bonus! And yes they do get deployed alot at Ft Bragg. My husband has been deployed 4 times from the base. We are happy here though :) Not sure where in Tn you are from , but we were stationed there too and loved it. Tn is a very pretty state. Where is your DS stationed now?

Hi Everyone,
I am an army wife- hubby is AD going on 11 yrs now. We are also at Ft. Bragg (Cara, we need to talk- we are going to Disney at the same time!)
Hubby has been gone since March- it has been hard on oldest dd- 4. She cries sometimes and asks for her dad-comes out of nowhere. Littlest dd is only 8 mo, so she doesn't really know him yet. He'll be home in the fall, so that's good. It's our 2nd war deployment, but have had lots of other training/out of country deployments. I am used to this, but dd is finding it harder. One thing that annoys me so much, is people (my sister) who don't understand what it is like to know that your husband is going out to work in a blaze of bullets and rpg's. They just roll their eyes and go, "of COURSE he is going to come home and be fine,.. it sounds like all they do is play video games and watch movies." It's hard when other people don't hear about other soldiers getting injured or killed and worrying every day that today could be the day that something happens. I am not usually a pessimistic person but i just get frustrated when people think you are overreacting b/c you worry about your spouse getting injured or KIA. Sorry for the venting, just knew you guys would understand!

Cara, in case you didn't know the Ft. Bragg YMCA makes free photo quilts for the kids of deployed soldiers. It's called Operation Kid Comfort. I had quilts made for both my girls.

Everyone have a great weekend!!

Wow thats neat that you are here too and going to WDW in Dec. What dates are u going and where are u staying. We are doing allstar movies cause we love that place :) U know I havent done the quilt thing yet, I need too. My friends motherinlaw did one for my daughter that I loved. It had pics of my husband on it. Do u have to volunteer time there or they do it for you for free? I know where the building is , if its still beside the Ft Bragg thrift shop. We should get together one day and let the kids play and we can pull out all our disney books and plan out our upcoming trip :)
Have a great weekend:)

I just accidently deleted all of DBF's emails that he has sent me since...October...:(

Can you get them out of your recycle bin? I have worried about that. I have about 18 voice mails saved from DH. We have a set time for him to call and sometimes he calls before I can get home from work so all the message is, "guess your not home yet, I'll try back in a few". But I still don't want to delete them.

i tried that, and i got a few back, but not all of them...there's still about 30 that I don't have....and I havent gotten another one in about a week....:(

MadameLeota, have been able to get any others back, or heard from your DF. I sure hope you do soon.

I just noticed you are in TX, anywhere near San Angelo?

Haven't gotten any emails back and haven't had any new emails in a week...I hate when I don't hear from him :(

Yeah I'm about 45 miles west of Ft Worth, how close that is to San Angelo I don't know!!

You are about 3 hours or so from San Angelo. Isn't Texas funny. Lived in DC and I loved the fact that I could take the loop and go through 3 states within an hour. My DS always asks if we are still in TX when we go out of town.

We will be in your neck of the woods when DH comes home. Can't squeeze in a trip to WDW, but will give Six Flags a visit. Plus, there is a Star Wars exhibit at Ft. Worth.

I hope you hear from your DF soon. :grouphug:

Six Flags is pretty fun, been there too much though! Yeah the Star Wars exhibit is supposed to be pretty good, from what I've heard..haven't gotten to go to it yet, but would like to!

Yeah TX is a BIIIIIG state....been all over it though...never lived anywhere else! I love it!

Aw thanks, I hope I hear from him soon too...:)

Sorry it took so long to answer your post. You were probably stationed in West TN and I am in North East TN near the Bristol Motor Speedway. My DS is now stationed in DC with White House Communication Agency. My DDIL is stationed at FT. Meade, MD with NSA. They have just left Ft. Belvoir, VA and are living very near Ft. Meade. We are on our way up there this weekend to live with them again at least until the grandchildren start back in school.

When they lived in FT. Bragg they lived on LeeHam St. just off Honeycutt and Long St. That was the new housing when they were there. I can still remember the directions we gave to everyone, left on Knox and right on Honeycutt, I could recite that in my sleep. lol If you go eat at Joe's Crab Shack think of me. That was my favorite place to eat along with many others. lol

Military wife here... Hubby was active duity AF for 4 years, we were in Goldsboro NC. He got out and we came back home to Colorado where he joined the Air National Guard and is now thinking of going full time out there. We have 4 kids... 12, 9 and 2 year old girls and a 4 year old boy.

I have been on the DIS forms for a while, took our first trip not that long ago. I didn't realize there was a military part till today! Glad to find it!

JMSKINNER... I see the Mustang... is it yours? My hubby has an supercharged 04 and we just bought an 1988 for me... he is a car guy and mustangs are the car of choice right now!

WOW! I Can't believe I didn't see this thread before.

Hi, I'm Katie 29 married to Dwayne 34 who is AD and we are at Fort Hood. We have been here since the spring of 06. Dwayne just returned from deployment on an emergency in April. His unit is headed home this week.

Dwayne has 16+ years AD

We were married at Disney last year 2x LOL. Once at the courthouse in Kissimee and then a few months later at our Disney wedding!

I have a trip planned next month with my sister from 08/16 to 08/20. We are staying at SSR.

And for Christmas 8 of us are going to VWL from 12/23 to 12/27, then off to Cocoa Beach for 2 days and hopping abord the Disney Wonder for a 4 night NYE Cruise!

Just wanted to say hello!

KT27 welcome and also welcome to TX. I wish I could go to WDW with ya. As you can see by my signature, I have my fingers crossed we can do 10 days next Summer.

Drivencrazy, welcome to you also. Yes, that is my DH's. It is his welcome home gift. Wanted to surprise him but realized I didn't have a clue what he would want on it. Stupid me, he wanted everything (ok, I added the heated seats)! I would have gotten the color wrong also. I was going to surprise him with racing stripes, but then couldn't figure out a color. Finally told him because that was way too much money for him to not like them. So black stripes (our DS8 choice) will go on next week.

DH had an 04 that we sold a few months before he left for Iraq. I think that is when he truly realized he was going. Saw it at a show a few months later and he got so upset we had to leave. I'm hoping we can make this a family thing and start going to shows together.

Hope everyones loved ones are well!

Nice... I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to come home to something like that! Are you set on bth black stripes? Silver would be really nice!

What color was his 04? We belong to a few...... 3 Mustang clubs... it keeps my hubby out of trouble!

When does your hubby come home? I know it probably says somewhere in the posts... but having 4 kids reading time is usually limited! My hubby will be gone over Christmas this year..... what can you do?!

KT- that is such a cute wedding pic!

Sooo, I have bought tickets for MVMCP on 12/9... hopefully flight does not get delayed and we are all well rested to get there early! :)

Talked to my hubby the other day and he said he was actually excited about our Disney trip (he previously referred to Disney as a money hungry corporation) I'm on my way to making him a true Disney convert!! Maybe that means we can go EVERY year!! :thumbsup2

One issue I am having... my dd, 4 is asking for dad to come home almost every day now and sometimes starts crying out of nowhere saying she wants him to come home. I just talk to her and let her know that it's daddy's job and he will be home soon.... does anyone else have any advice about how to handle this kind of thing?

Thanks everyone! Kelly

We originally wanted silver, but didn't want anything that stood out. When the car comes at you down the road, I like to see the car, not the stripes. Plus, with the chrome GT on the trunk, the silver would make it blend in. Then thought about a dark blue, but after spending $60 on those little bottles of paint for chips I gave up and told him I was trying to surprise him, but couldn't find a color I liked. The color of the car is a hard one to match. Depending on the sun, it changes. We both ended up looking on the web while on the phone. He then called me back to tell me black. It was about 3:00am his time at that point. Poor guy, I made him lose his sleep.

His 04 was black. Which is my favorite color for a car.

DH will be home August 19. This Sunday we are just three weeks away. Been a long year. Didn't seem that bad until after he came home on leave. I can barely handle my one child, can't imagine four.

I am sorry to hear your DH will be gone for Christmas. This was the first time DH had been gone since our son was just a baby. He did get to call and talk to us while we opened presents so that was nice.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Anyone doing anything exciting?

Don't know if you have thought of this, or done anything like this but these are some of the things we have done while waiting for Daddy to come home...

Make a paper chain with the # of days that he will be gone, red, white and blue is always fun and hang it so you can see how many days are still left taking one off every day till he is home.

A jar of jelly beans, or m&m's that you can talk about what Daddy is doing while he is gone and have one a day with a thought of Daddy and when they are gone, he is home!

We also went through a time when we made Daddy a picture everyday, paint, color... and then put them into a book for daddy to see what we kept busy with...

You do have to be careful when you come down to the last few days if you don't know forsure what day he will be coming home... my husband has been with the jets before and they don't get home with the main group so you sometimes have to add a day or two w/out getting caught!

I'm sorry to hear that she is having a hard time my boy is 4 and just with Daddy's hours at work changing I see a change in him...... he gets a little whinny and just not himself.

I guess I should also add that my hubby has never been gone for more than 4 months at time. I don't know how I would handle a year or more!!

Hope that helps some!

So did you go out and get the car w/out him knowing? Do you drive it for him too? I love the blue... I would love to see silver on it, but black will look really nice too! You'll have to post pictures when the stripes are done!

A couple of months ago I got an 07 Explorer, it is Black and looks so nice when it's clean... but shows all the dust so easily! I really do love the black! My husbands 04 Mustang is Dark Shadow Gray.

Glad to hear that you are on the count down... I have never had to do a year... as for having only one child... Maybe having more is easier, more to keep you busy!

No big plans for the weekend... a couple of birthday parties to go to, I think that is about all here!

No, I wanted to surprise him but when I went online and started quoting I couldn't figure out what he would want. The Dark Shadow Gray is the color I would have ordered, but I loved the blue once I saw it. I was so nervous waiting those 9 weeks for the car to get here. Had it over a month and only has 250 miles on it, 100 of that was getting it home from the dealership. Our son just loves it. He wants to hear it "roar". That's all I hear going down the road, "Make it roar!".

Sometimes I wish we had more kids, just so our son would have someone to play with. It seems everyone we know has kids 5 years younger or older. He attends school in another district so he doesn't know any kids in the neighborhood. And what few I see are all girls. It's like there is a sign on this street saying to buy here if you have girls.

This is our second year tour. He went to Saudi when our son was 6 months old. Volunteered. It was either that or Korea. He volunteered this time too. He kept volunteering for the 3 month tours that kept popping up but the Col. would always decide he should stay here. I knew he would end up with a year. Hopefully this will be the last since he is only 6 years away from retirement. Other than that, it has always been a week or month.

That's funny. We are a Ford family also, I have a Supercrew F150.

Well, I hope the birthday parties don't wear you out. My kiddo is already discussing his and it isn't until November!

I finally heard from DBF!!! He had been doing a LOT of training, so he was really busy. He said he had been coloring in the Spiderman coloring book I had sent him! lol!!:goodvibes

I would LOVE to get something like that w/out my hubby knowing... but I never could, he is a car guy and I know I wouldn't remember to get everything that he wanted... My kids all can tell me about cars... My 9 yr old tells me if a Mustang is a GT or not... she can tell if a car is super charged or has a turbo-she is kind of weird that way! My boy, he's 4... hears different cars and can usually tell me what it sounds like (Mustang, corvette...) before he sees it! He loves the way cars sound and the roar!

We have 4 fords right now...... and only 2 drivers??? The 2 mustangs, my explorer and a bronoco (hubby calls it his beater car... so he doesn't have to drive the Stang in all the weather here...)

As for kids... there was a time when I thought we would only have 1... I have always wanted at least 4......... Well we have 4 and that will be all! My 9 year olds birthday is also in November... then the 12 and 2 yr olds are in December and the only boy is in January.....they are all telling me what kind of cake they want and what they want to do.......... I like to write it down and then around their b-days get it out and show them what they wanted 6+ months ago! It's hardly ever the same!

Ok...... better get going, another B-day party tonight... it's at the pool up the street. I'm wondering if we are going to get more rain?!?!?
