Well, we're due at WL by 3 pm Monday, and were planning to head out from SW Ohio midnite Saturday, to get into the Hilton-at-DTD for Sunday afternoon. But now there's a huge (!) storm headed here and will pretty much mess up the roads by Saturday evening. :scared1:

So we've decided to head out first thing in the AM and o'night in Atlanta. We'll still get to Hilton-at-DTD Sunday afternoon, and won't have to sweat the freezing rain/snow/ice issue Saturday night -- heck, we should be in Hotlanta by 4 pm. :woohoo:

Anyone else moving up their departure to beat the storm?

That's probably a great idea! The storm doesn't hit Florida until Sunday morning and moves out quickly, by afternoon, leaving cold temps behind it.

Hope you and everyone have safe travels to FL!

Sounds like a good plan to me!

Last update from Cleveland NWS was that Ohio may get more rain than snow from this storm...and that is OK with me!

It's not moving up my departure for a fun vacation time(boo, hiss!), but it's making me hit the grocery store early! We are supposed to have freezing rain tomorrow followed by 4-8" of snow, then frigid temps Sunday and Monday. Highs in the 0's. Yuck!

Have a safe trip. I hope you beat the rain/freezing rain/snow issue.

Flying from Chicago with friends, they are booked on an earlier flight (her DH had to change his flight and miss a day of school...)...I am at 10:00...crossing my fingers that the snow/cold holds off until after 10!!!

safe travels! sounds like a good idea to beat the crazy weather. you always know something's brewing when work sends you the emergency line reminder email :)

i hope you have a great time...

but i hope downtown cincinnati is shut down on monday :rotfl2: i need a day off!

Well, just north of there they were suggesting you find something to keep yourself busy for Monday morning...

But the way the weather is, it's hard to say. If you're south of the line, you get an inch of rain. If you're north of the line, you get 10 inches of snow.

Hope you get your weather wish!

Dick Goddard says that we will get rain early on Sunday then the whole mess will change over to snow by midday. Just what we need....another foot! Safe travels to everyone heading to WDW this weekend!! :santa:

Good luck to all of you. Unfortunatly we will not be joining you. We not be going to the world until May. As far as your weather, well we are in southern NH. We make sure there is gas for the generator. I go shopping for food for maybe 48 hours worth of food TOPS, less if the forcast is for less then 12 inches. If I have to go out durring a storm I just drive slow and steady. Also there is a reason for the SUV. Just make sure that you have blankets and an emergency kit and water in the car. Don't panic it is not worth the sweat to worry alot ahead of time. To the op: you are smart to leave a day earlier though, if you can make the drive at an easier pace you will all arrive in a much better mood though. If you have never driven with the kids on that long of a car trip before I would set the ground rules for behavior etc. before leaving for your trip and stock up on some travel games if you have not already done so. I do not know about Ohio but in New England the weather changes at the drop of a hat and no that is not an old wives tale. When someone around here tells you if you don't like the weather to waite 5 minutes and it will change they are not fooling around.

Yes yes!!!! I got the e-mail too!!!!

Btw.... big Bengals/Pittsburgh game this weekend. As a Pittsburgher, I'll be sitting on my couch, surrounded by Steeler fans decked out in my Bengals gear praying they pull off a win.

Hi there. I'm in SW Ohio too...haven't heard too much about the storm, except that it's supposed to be mostly rain tomorrow. We leave on Thursday, but flying this time due to it being a very short trip. I drove last year, this same time frame and got lucky with good driving weather the first day. 2nd day woke up in TN with chilly weather and rain...it rained most of the drive..poured buckets in Atlanta. Darn weather...you just never know what it's going to do! Happy and safe travels to you!

lol, i was born and raised in pgh and i'm always in my black and gold here! everyone's pretty much given up on the bengals here, so being a rebel isn't as effective anymore :) with any luck, i'll have a recovery day on monday :yay:

We leave bright and early tomorrow-hopefully missing the messy weather! Yeah! Cannot wait to get away from the snow!

Funny to come to the Dis and read about Dick Goddard!! We're in Valley City. Thank goodness for the sun today, we had about 12" on the ground, now it's down to just a couple. Just in time for another foot or more! My DH snowplows so I'm planning on him being MIA for the next few days. I work from home and have to work both tomorrow and Monday. Tomorrow he'll be around for most of the time I work, but I"m worrying about a snow day Monday. Might need to talk BIL (teacher in the same district) into occupying them for awhile cause I think work will be BUSY!

Safe travels to everyone!

OK, so we're in Atlanta and supposed to get between half and three-quarters of an inch of rain tonight, but that's OK as long as it doesn't freeze to anything. Then we're out of here first thing in the AM and predictions have us in DTD by 4 pm. Looks like it's gonna be dinner in DTD tomorrow night! Any suggestions for a place where we won't need reservations?

BTW - I-75 was fast and smooth today, with a few construction zones but no backups. At least two lanes were open all the way thru. I can't speak for Chattanooga, however, since Lola (our GPS) routed us down TN SR60 into Georgia instead of thru the Choo Choo City.

We'll see about tomorrow...

The weather amelioration strategy seems to have paid off -- the rain has passed thru the Atlanta area and now seems to be down around Macon. By the time we get there (about 2 or 3 hours) the rain should be well east and just passing thru the Northern and central Florida areas. Let's hope that traffic along the construction zone between Valdosta and the FL border is open and clear...!

Those leaving this morning, please be careful and have a safe trip! We'll see ya' in the parks!
