Midwest or Delta

MidWest is FAR better then Delta. They were threatening bankrupcy last year but seem to be better now. I couldn't tell you about delta's financial situation at all.

Midwest, Midwest, Midwest! Excellent service out of Kansas City!

I've flown Delta and was not impressed - it was merely ok. They do have financial problems right now.

I have heard only glowing reports of Midwest. I think they are your best bet.

I'll give a contrary viewpoint here, just for balance. I am a Delta frequent flyer and will usually choose Delta when we have a choice of airline. That being said, they are an old legacy carrier (old style airline) with everything that goes with that; IMO they are one fo the better legacy carriers, but a legacy carrier all the same.

As for finances, I am a finance wonk by profession and training. IMO, you are going to have a higher likelihood of MidWest closing up shop than Delta. MidWest has addressed the shorter term issues confronting it, but does not really have the critical mass to be a guaranteed survivor; in other words, if MidWest were to go bankrupt, there would be a pretty decent chance that they would stop flying. Delta on the other hand is enormous, and since they have edged back from the brink of bankruptcy, they are on a pretty decent ongoing financial footing (not as strong as Continental, but stronger than USAir, United, American and Northwest).

So if you are buying in the distant future, like six months out, perhaps you might tend toward Delta for the security of knowing for sure that you will be able to take the flight. If you are buying nearer term, like less than three months, you might want to go with the greater convenience and comfort of Midwest.

Good lyck with your planning.

My vote has to go to "the hometown airline" Midwest!!

beside that my brother and sister-in-law for that matter used to be pilots for midwest!!! (yes mySIL!!!!)

now shes a SAHM and my DB is president for the Midwest commuter airline

all in all they are the best airlines and most stable around.

and the chocolate chip cookies are to die for!!!!!!

PumpkinBoy is spot on so I won't repeat that part.

One downside to Midwest is if your flight is cancelled due to mechanical or weather issues, they are a lot harder to re-book on at peak periods as they have less planes flying to absorb the displaced flyers. They are a nice, regional carrier though and offer good service and value for the money.

I fly Delta a lot (I've been Platinum Medallion for four years now) and my experience is that Delta is 95% good and 5% bad in your experiences with them. The 5% part will drive you crazy when you hit it as with all big companies they can't seem to fix the issue due to policies or some other stupid reasons. An example is baggage getting delayed when you change planes in Atlanta despite adequate windows between flights. I took Delta into Atlanta from Europe (Dublin, London, Madrid, and Amsterdam) eleven times last year. On four of the changes my baggage didn't make my continuation flight after clearing customs at Terminal E. In one case it went on the next plane which due to the magic of air traffic control and plane delays got in before my earlier flight so the luggage was waiting for me and they were calling me as I waited at the carousel. The other three times I didn't see the luggage until very late the next day when it was delivered to my home. Song is an exception to the Delta baggage shenanigans from my experience as they have never lost or even delayed a bag in my nine roundtrips on them in the last 15 months.

So I guess my advice is to fly whichever airline is cheapest. If the fares are about the same then vote for the most convenient schedule for your travel needs. Enjoy your vacation!!

I'd chose on service/price. Financial matters should not be your concern.
