My wife and I are curious to see if anyone has done this trip or knows someone who has? What were your impressions if so? Was there enough free time to see other DC attractions?

Hi, fsufan53, and welcome to the DISBoards and the ABD Forum!

I know we have had some people here take the "Spirit of America" Mid-Atlantic trip. Right now, we're kind of between seasons, so the traffic on this forum is a little light. Hopefully one of the folks who has been on this trip will see your post and give you an answer soon!

We went on the Spirit of America trip two years ago. It is fantastic!!!! I know the schedule has changed somewhat, so I can't help you a ton. I know that we had one afternoon when we went to Ford Theater on our own. Another afternoon, we went to the Smithsonian. We also had that evening free. (It was the 4th of July for us, so we hung out as a group & watched fireworks. Amazing.) One thing to keep in mind is that all of the government buildings (Smithsonian museums, etc) close earlier than you would expect (5:00 maybe? I don't remember for sure.).

On our trip, we flew into Philly a day early and had a blast before meeting up with the group. This was our first ABD, but it inspired us to plan the Southwest Splendors for this summer. If you've never traveled with Disney, you won't regret it! We were amazed every step of the way.

Thanks for your help. We probably wont be taking this trip this year since we just booked the London/Paris/Disneyland Paris trip in October. My wife is a teacher and this trip was gonna be our backup if she couldnt get off. I am sure we will try it in the future.

Needless we are very excited and also very nervous about going on the ABD DIS Knights and Lights. It is triple what we have ever paid for a vacation but I know it will be worth it. Time to start saving!!!!

fsufan53, I took the DIS Knights & Lights trip last year, and it's a phenomenal trip. You're going to love it! It's seriously more money than I've ever spent on a vacation, also, but really was worth it. I'm posting a Trip Report about it (link in my signature). I'm woefully behind on it, but starting to catch up!
