Microwave needed in room

I am very sorry to hear this. :sad2: Did you contact the hotel directly? I wouldn't let the posts on this thread discourage you. You have a medical necessity, same as a disability, and disabilities should be accommodated by any hotel.

I have to point out there is a difference. There is a microwave that the OP is free to use, but to her, it just isn't convenient enough. If that is the way she feels, fine. It is her choice. But it is not medically necessary for her to have a microwave in her room. I don't think it is asking too much of her to throw on some clothes and walk to the food court.

If Disney does not wish to provide her one in her room, that is their choice. Just like the OP is free to stay at a resort that will furnish her a microwave in her room.

well that can't be true - if someone a few posts back said they were able to get one for a medical reason. you get many different answers from many different cm's.

It can't be true? Were you there when I spoke to the Pop Century front desk manager? Were you there when a Special requests co ordinator told me they could not provide a microwave in the value resort? Where you here when a rep from the Executive offices of WDW called to further explain their policy?

I stay at Pop and get a microwave every stay, also for medical reasons. You have to fax over or call the front end manager who will note your reservation. You will not get help from the medical needs dept., they have information that states there are no microwaves, but there are. When you go to check-in you will also need to ask for a manager on duty as the actual CM's are not all aware of this policy.

And I have never had a problem with an electrical overload or anything and I use the microwave at least 5-6 times per night at 1-1 1/2 minutes per cycle.

hmm - as I said another poster is able to get one no problem

Which part did you miss when I said different CM's give different answers. It is possible to get one is this person is posting about getting one. HMMM - apprently they were able to get one.

1) Because Disney has different rules.
2) You have a choice of staying at Disney or Best Western or where ever.
3) Either abide by the rules, or go elsewhere.
4) It is that simple.

NOTE: I like the no-microwave rule. I do not want to go into a room and smell days-old popcorn or other food that was prepared in the microwave.

I completely agree. If Disney does not want microwaves in the rooms... you should not advise the OP to bring one, and risk getting them asked to leave the premises. Also, if the OP does not want to use the microwave provided in the food court, then other resort arrangements may need to be made.

I replied to your comment that what I was told could "not be true". Since you were not personally involved in either conversation you have no way of knowing WHICH is "true".

To the OP:

I completely understand your frustration. I hope you are able to work out a solution that works and you have a wonderful trip!

you get many different answers from many different cm's.

And that is very unfortunate, isn't it? It is a shame that the OP can't expect to get an answer on this question and know for 100% that what she is told is what the policy is. I'm not sure why Disney has this problem, but they do.

Disney's resort policy is that you may bring food that doesn't need to be heated. There is no cooking allowed in the non-kitchen guest rooms. Not only does cooking in the room provide unpleasant odors to other guests, it is a fire hazard, and is therefor against the fire code.

If I owed a resort, I would certainly not allow it unless the resort has a full kitchen that is wired for cooking appliances, as well as having proper ventilation and fire extinguishers, such as what Disney has in its villas.

Disney does provide microwaves for guests to use in all of their food courts.

I had asked earlier but got no response. Would heating the medicine in hot/warm water provide the same response? I'm not a fan of heating liquids in the microwave, including baby bottles, because of hot spots and super heating.

I'm going to unsub on this thread (it's gona a bit overboard) but before I do I just wanted to say how do you guys know that these resorts are in some way ill equipped for microwaves? Perhaps they don't provide microwaves and coffee makers not because they are ill equipped for the "fire hazard" but perhaps because they are value resorts and do not offer those amenities in these budget rooms? That doesn't mean they are in anyway less vented than the mini kitchens in the studios or the mods with coffee makers in every room. I think you are assuming she will be creating food-smells from heating her meds when that just simply won't be the case. I understand you wanting to ban microwaves for popping popcorn purposes (well, really I don't. I've eaten plenty a take out meal in my Pop room before). And the whole argument of having her walk to the main bldg to use the public microwave is ridiculous. What if she has a small child? Would you expect her to get her young child up, put it in the stroller or carry it to the main bldg along with her meds and special containers? That seems ridiculous. If the OP has a MEDICAL necessity for a microwave who is anyone to care if the hotel allows her to do so?

Good luck OP. Hope you get what you need to make your DISNEY stay magical.

I was interested in the response, too. I briefly looked at the Disabilities board, and the only instances I found where people were able to get microwaves for medical reasons involved anaphylactic food allergies. This situation is quite different.

I saw microwaves outside of several rooms at All Stars in June - these were Disney microwaves waiting for pickup and not confiscated ones.

Hope that helps.

While reading some of the responses here upset me, I needed to come back and reaffirm that not just ONCE BUT TWICE, I have had a microwave in my room for medical reasons. I am the first to admit that you have to keep a cool head and speak with as many people as needed to get to the correct person who knows the procedure....

For my situation, I need the microwave throughout the evening, so one is not available to me after midnight when the food court closes. If it was open, I would not ask for one, but walk over and use it. Pop Century does not have microwaves on-site at their disposal as all times. Both times, mine was delivered from another resort. (This is what I was told and both times I waited for it after I got into my room, but it was there by the evening). I will need to get out my CD's to check for a picture of our room. Mousekeeping was wonderful as they set it up and dusted it and it never disappeared throughout our trip. Never once did I use it for food, nor would I even consider it. Neither would my children or husband.

To the OP and any other posters who were denied, I really want to reiterate that you need to work with the CM's and supervisors and managers with a cool head/attitude. Special Requests area DOES NOT accomodate this request. It is the front-end manager of the resort. I really hope that you are able to work this out prior to your trip. Afterwards it will be a mute subject as guest relations and such are not required to honor this request. When all is said and done any guest could go to the front desk and a CM or manager would probably warm up the meds or allow you to go to an area where the workers have one. As long as it is on-site, they are covered.

As for the debate, I am going to walk away now. If anyone would like information, please feel free to PM me. I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. And to everyone who needs medical assistance, my prayers are with you. Diane.

Thank you for the good information. We always book through TA so I'd think they could deal with front desk. If not, I did notice Mariott has a very good deal right now with free shuttle to the park. I'm not apposed to staying off site, just thought it would be fun to try POP instead of FW this trip.

I think we've reached the end of the road here.

The OP has some information to approach the Special Assistance group with.
