any opinions please? not interested in an Ipad, but looking for a versatile tablet for primarily personal use, but possible some school work. I haven't been able to get to a B&M store yet to check them out in person, but I thought maybe someone here had some experience with them. Thanks!

My husband has one. It is pretty awesome. I don't personally like Windows 8 but the tablet itself pretty much blows away the iPad, IMO. However, much like Apple, you basically have to be "committed" to the Windows/Microsoft universe in order to fully realize the tablet's abilities. My husband has a Windows phone, uses Xbox Live and used to have a Zune so he is all dialed into the Microsoft cloud already. If you want a tablet to do real work on, this is it, but if you have REAL work to do that might require installing software, you'll need the Surface Pro. Even the RT, though, is more like a laptop than any other tablet on the market right now. The click in keyboard/cover is really neat and makes the tablet very easy to do work on.

I am personally an Android fan and if you choose to go that route, take a look at the new Galaxy Note.

thanks for the info. I'll take a look at the Galaxy. We're a Kindle family and I was looking at the new Kindle Fires but the Surface looks very enticing. thanks again.

I have one and I love it but the app store is very lacking compared to the Google play store and Apples app store.

I have one for work and the first week I didn't like it so much but now I LOVE it!

My geeky 15 yo son just spent ~1,200 in the Microsoft store getting the pro and some accessories. He got an ipad about 3 years ago and never liked it. He loves all products Microsoft.

Not as many apps though.

He spent lots of hours lifeguarding this summer to make this purchase.

DD is looking at this tablet. She mainly wants it for school work- would use excel ,word, etc since she has a laptop PC but wants something smaller to use in class and during off campus studies. Would this tablet be the best for her? She looked at the iPad but doesn't think it would work for what she really wants. DH and I are thinking about getting this for her for Christmas but don't want to spend $$$ on something that isn't going to be the best fit.

Advice?
