What are all the programs in Office? I know Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint. What else is there and what do they do? Also, can you buy Excel separately or do you have to buy the whole office package? I need Excel for work and I'm trying to figure out what my best option is. I'm not sure if I'd use the other programs.

AFAIK, you can purchase Excel separately.

You can purchase seperately but its more cost effective to purchase the suite.

If you want Open office is free, it does work with excel files.

You also get Microsoft Outlook, the email manager. FWIW, you can also buy the student/teacher version for < $150, it hasWord, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel. Professional has Publisher, which is good if you need to make brochures and thing like that. It's not available on the less expensive version. We have one computer with Professional, and our others have the student teacher edition which all my kids need, although older DD has used Publisher more than enyone else!

Thanks. Sounds like the Student Edition would probably serve the main purpose, but Publisher would be nice, too.

I got the latest Professional Suite at cost from a friend at Microsoft. I might be able to get another if time is not an issue. The improved set is well worth the money at that point.

Thank you for the offer, but I think I'm going to start by activating the Student Edition on my new laptop. There is a 60 day trial period (just found it). I'll see if it's sufficient enough and decide from there.

I am very pleased with the Student version. I use Word a bunch, the rest only occasionally. My middle schooler uses Word and Powerpoint, I think she'll be using Excel tomorrow with her science fair project partner. She and younger DD have both had to use Publisher for brouchures, which makes me thankful that I do have it, but I can't say that it alone would warrant the extra $200 that the upgrade to Professional would have cost me. I got my Student version at Circuit City for ~$100 when it first became available.

Thanks...I needed that info also. I have never used those programs at my job and the company is closing down probably at the end of the month and I need to learn those to get a new job!

The offer is always there if you want it. Just PM me. There are limits to how much each person can get from the employee store, but I have enough contacts that I can usually get what I need. The cost for the entire Professional Suite I think is still under $100.
