Can anyone recommend a good microscope? A family that I buy Christmas presents for has requested this for their gift this year. I want something powerful, but it has to stand up to kids who don't always take good care of their things.

Costco had one recently in their toys section. It was for kids 8 and up and looked pretty nice. My 5 year old wanted it so we looked at it pretty closely. I happen to love microscopes and would chose this one, if that helps. Sorry I don't know the brand, though.

We got the kind they use in schools on ebay. It is a good microscope and very sturdy, made to hold up to alot of use and not a "toy" one.

I'm interested too. Got DS9 one at Toys R Us......can't remember the name brand, something that has to do w/Science I think.....it was HORRIBLE. We returned it the next day.

I'd go with a Brock magiscope. I use them with my seventh grade students and they are the only ones that really hold up. They have very few moveable/mechanical parts and the image quality is quite nice.

We had one from Toys R Us, probably the one marshallandcartersmom mentioned above. It really WAS horrible! It's probably safe to say the Toys R Us ones should be avoided.
