MICKEY'S PIN TRADING NIGHTS at the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort!

Are these free events? Do lots of people show up? Is it mostly hard-core traders or will a casual trader feel at ease? Any info is welcome!!

They are all free...there is Fri night at the Contemporary on the 4th floor...by the pin cart..there are a lot of great traders from all over..and an area just for kids..w/ their own trading board.. There are always some hard traders everywhere, but if you find yourself in an uncomfortable trade, just close your book, and end the trade..best advice..

Then the All Star Sports on Thurs night at the food court...it is the same kind of set up as the Cont. w/ the kids area, and a lot of the same traders are there, and others also...

They used to have one on sun. nights at the Boardwalk outside under the patio, same set up, but I haven't been in some time, and I hear that a lot of people are not going..

And there is always everynight at DTD at the pintraders lounge, and you will get a lot of different traders there, from the newbies to the tough ones..

All these events are free...hope this helps...we are hoping that Disney will set up another meet for Sunday nights, perhaps at the All Star Movies...(Disney are you listening??)

The last time I was at the World (Nov) most of the traders were trading high demand ultra scarce pins. I'd like to make some Lanyard 1 for 1 type trades. Will I have any luck? Is the boardwalk trading worth going to? I will be going to the others because, in all the times I've been to WDW, I have never been in the Cont. or AS Sports. I have only done CM trades in my limited trading experience.

The All Star Sports, and the Cont. at least it is a good way to see the pins that are out there, and meet some other newbies..most traders will be happy to at least show you their pins, even if you can't trade, that way you can decide what ones you would like to go for,

There are also some traders, that put other pins on their lanyards, the CM lanyard pins for example, and trade 1 for 1..I in doubt, look for us at the Contempory most fri nights, there are usually 4 or 6 of us together, and are always glad to help..I wear my green Disboards pin on my lanyard, Bob wears a villian lanyard, and My DH usually wears a teaser lanyard w/ a lot of good pins Wet Paint etc. just to show people what they look like, I have short blonde/white hair..usually you can't miss me unfortunately, I can't get away w/ anything..LOL

You can try Boardwalk, but the last people I talked too said there weren't many there the last time they went.. but it doesn't hurt to drop over..

We went to the BW one in Oct. Our kids trade so they traded off the kids only board (which had lots of pins on it). I'm no expert but they were happy with what they got. Probably about 20 -25 other people there trading (maybe more). Some seemed serious, others casual. We went right at the beginning so not sure if the crowd got bigger later on. We actually liked that it was small since we know almost nothing about trading and it wasn't as intimidating as a huge crowd. Our kids are looking forward to going again on our next trip.

Can you explain the kids board?

At the BW is was like bulletin board with all the pins attached to it. A CM sits there with the pins facing her and the kids go over to her to choose the pins and then she takes them off the board for them. My DD was just shy of 4 (but already addicted to pin trading) so I held her hand and went "behind" the board with her. The CM was very nice but said "no parents allowed". This was fine since the CM was nice and helped her choose and once DD saw all those pins (I guess 100-200 maybe) she didn't need me anymore . Only our kids trade pins, not us, so I don't know much about it but I think the CM's are probably trying to prevent the really serious traders from seeing the board and telling their kids which ones to choose. It's kind of more fun this way since the kids don't care about value, they just pick what they like. I think they were allowed to trade up to five pins from the board. Have fun!

Don't miss Scoops pin seminar at the Mk Expo hall...it is a must for newbies, and oldies too, keeps us honest....anyway he is there from Sunday to Thursday at 1PM at the back of the Expo hall, he is the greatest, and it is good for the kids too..

He is the best, and after his seminar, there is an area for pin trading too, and you can sometimes get to trade w/ Scoop... sooooo do what we pin traders who live down here do every chance we get...sometimes 2 or 3 times a month or more....

We went to the pin trading night at the Contemporary in December. My kids had a blast! Yes, they had the board set up where no one outside the kids zone could see it. The CM's there said they still would have some kids come in there with cell phones obviously talking to mom or dad and asking them about which pins they should get (obviously trading FOR mom and/or dad, not themselves). What a shame. I let the CM's know that, although I do pin trading myself, my kids are in charge of their own trading and their own collections. I don't limit their trading in any way. They're THEIR pins. They even let my 3 1/2 yo go in there as long as she "could do her own trading." Well, she had been since right before her 3rd birthday! She was really good at trading with CM's. And she had her big sister to help her if needed. They had so much fun and ended up getting "Continuing the Tradition" pins from the CM's! Now, I put my foot down then and told them they weren't allowed to trade those. I sat out in the area with the adult pin traders but felt a little out of place. Okay, a lot out of place! There were some serious traders there and most seemed to know each other. I mostly just sat there and kept an eye on my girls. Then my girls went around looking at the adult traders' pins. They wanted to trade, although I explained to them how it worked and that most likely they wouldn't actually do any trades. Most of the traders were nice and patient with my girls but some seemed irritated.

I can't believe people send kids in there with cell phones!! That's unbelievable - not to mention that they're teaching their kids that it's ok to break the rules.

Alas we didn't know about the world of pin trading when we were in WDW last April - just barely started trading with the occasional CMs then.

Then we came home. Then we REALLY got hooked.

Too bad my DD isn't coming along to WDW in March - she'd get a real kick out of the "kid only areas" (actually I think she'd get more of a kick out of ditching mom & dad!! )
