We'll be visiting WDW next Oct over Wine & Dine weekend. I was reading the packet info from this years running races and had some questions.

Was the 5k a non-timed event? I thought I saw posts saying other 5k events were timed. Why not this one?

Were strollers allowed? I think I saw ppl mention there was a stroller division but they had to start in the back. Worth it if you actually want to run the event?

I'll be doing the 1/2 mary and signing up my kids (3 and 5) for the races on Fri, would doing the 5k in addition be too much? Outside of the $$$ I think it would be pretty cool to run through the MK and we'd be spending money on MMNSSHP tickets anyway.

TIA!

The "fun runs" are usually not timed. I haven't seen anywhere that has results so I don't think it was timed. Someone who ran it can confirm.

There was a separate stroller division which started in the back. Not sure if it is worth it, that depends on you.

I haven't seen anywhere that the 5K will definitely go through MK next year. The course and theme of the 5K on marathon weekend changes every year. It will be in Epcot this year but has been in other parks in the past.

As for too much, not if you are trained sufficiently and don't run the morning 5K at your maximum 5K pace.

The only thing that I have seen definitely announced is the date and there were so many issues this year I'm thinking they will be reviewing the event and deciding on changes before they tell us anything definite.

Thanks. I didn't realize the route might change. That would make it less desirable to me.

I wasn't thinking about 'racing' the 5k just wanted to run as oppose to walk and I had gotten the impression there were many walkers. I am not worried about my ability to do both just thinking about the logistics of it all.

The 5K was timed. Meaning, they had timers up along the course at each mile marker and the finish line. There were no official results recorded though. So you just need to keep track of your own time.

We've got a video up on the blog of my daughter's experience with the 5K, and you can see the timers along the course.

I don't remember seeing any strollers at the race. Even in the last corral that was designated for walkers. Wait, I still have my 5k final instructions and it says baby joggers/strollers are prohibited on the course.

My 9 year old loved the 5k course, but we trained to do it.

Big thanks for filming it, it was very fun to run it and it's nice to go back to look at what was on the course. I'm very focused when I run and sometimes end up missing things.

I call this Race amnesia. I have to too. I think I focus too much on the people around me so I don’t run into them. I can’t remember running certain section of the race. I thought it was just me. Does anyone else have trouble remembering certain sections of races? Anyways thanks again for filming this race, I loved seeing it again

I remember the park more than I do remember getting there. I was trying to pace myself but at the same time trying to get around runner and also make sure I didn't run over any kids. I did see a family running and the (slightly older) sister kept shoving the younger brother because he kept stopping. I do remember the monorail parked above us as we got closer to the park and it was playing the Haunted Mansion music.

I was at the back of the pack for the 5K, intentionally as I wanted to walk it. There were most certainly no strollers.
I did both the 5K and the Half in the evening. As Frank has said, don't push super hard in the morning, and you'll be fine. I'm a novice, at best, and I survived--you can, too.

I don't know if this is new or not - but the Jan 5K has a stroller division, with strollers required to start at the back. That's cool if you plan to walk the event, but I'd be concerned about safety if runners started zig-zagging through the crowds pushing a stroller. I'm really excited about this option since we are planning on doing the 5K in 2012 with my new grandbaby due Feb 2011....definitely won't be concerned about pace, just photo opportunities!
