I was looking into Mickey's 6-day dining plan. The plan includes 4 "resort dining" options. According to the website, you can use these options at places like Carnation Cafe, Cafe Orleans, Wine Country Trattoria, PCH Grill, Storyteller's, Steakhouse 55, etc. Does anyone know what the plan covers? (entree, appetizer, tip, etc)

Also, what is the definition of a "snack" with the snack vouchers included?

Thanks for your replies!!

This is a recent change to the DL dining plan vouchers, you should probably call Disney to check, but I believe it is not to exceed certain dollar amount listed on the voucher.

Hi,

Just curious if it's possible to purchase the meal plan (Minnie, in my case :) if staying at one of the neighbourhood hotels, or is it only available if booking one of the DL hotels?

This may have been posted/answered before, but the amount of good info and tips on this forum is overwhelming... a serious crash course ;)

Thanks!

I believe that all the vouchers are the same but with different dollar amounts so a "snack vouchure" is probably just one with a lower value. We've never done the dining plan but were given meal vouchers one time for dinner but it didn't say dinner on the vouchers so we could have used them for any food.

But, the consensus on this forum is that the meal plan isn't worth it. It's not like the one at WDW. It doesn't save you money and you don't get change back if you spend less than the voucher is worth. So if you spend $7 and you give them a $10 voucher, you will lose $3. Or you could give them a $5 voucher and $2 cash but then you're paying for meals on top of already paying for them. I've heard a few (very few) people say they like them for the convenience but most people think it's a bad idea. Some people buy disney gift cards in advanced to use for meals instead of buying vouchers.

Hope that helps explain the dining plan. :)

Mickey's Disney Dining Plan
15 Disney Dining choices per person.
Adult/Junior Meal Plans include
Resort Dining** (Breakfast Lunch or Dinner at select locations) 4
Premium Character Dining** (Breakfast Lunch or Dinner at select locations) 1
$15 Dining Certificate 5
Snack Voucher 5

There are not specific dollar amounts on all the vouchers - but it does not seem to specify if it's appetizer, entree, dessert, etc. for the dinner ones. I think you would have to call and ask specifically what it would cover. It just says there are four vouchers that would be good at any of those locations for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, plus one premium character dining (Goofy's or Ariel's)

And for the PP who asked, you can use these vouchers if you are not staying at one of the DLR hotels :thumbsup2

EDIT - I just noticed though that you can purchase a "Resort Dining" voucher on its own for $31/adult.

Unless it has changed very recently, you get vouchers for dollar amounts even though it doesn't specifically say it in the wording.

Yes, the dining plan has just been changed. I think the changes showed up around the beginning of the year.

I just chatted online with a castmember and was told that the Resort Dining voucher has a value of $31. As much as I like prepaying for as much as I can with a vacation, that just doesn't make sense to me. Probably will prepay for gift cards instead.

I don't think the DL plan is probably worth it, but I would be interested in seeing prices for the plans out of curiosity.
I found the plans on the website (they don't make it too easy to find them!), but no prices seem to be listed.

Thank you all for clarifying this, I will not be going for the meal plan but will try to get a few character dinning experiences in.

I'm looking forward to our first trip at the end of April, it will be a first time for both my DD and me.

After pricing the Goofy plan, I don't see any value in buying a dining plan. The plan includes 3 Resort dining, 3 $15 dining certificates and 3 snacks (under $5 each).

3 @ $31 = $93
3 @ $15 = $45
3 @ $5 = $15
Total is $153 (Equal to Adult cost of plan)

Am I missing something? Why bother?

Prepayment may seem attractive, not always the best. I tend to forget about vouchers, or over buy and then find us cramming to use them before we leave.

Can anyone share the benefits of buying Gift Certificates vs. using credit card while there? Do you get discounts or bonus' from buying GC's at certain locations?

I noticed that someone said they called Disney Dining. I was very confused last night between all the web searches I did and this blog. Shocking, the responses here were more direct ;) For those who have been to DW, this is not the same plan. Example: Snack at DW $8. No problem, just use your card and there goes a snack. Snack at DL $8. Pull out your wallet because the snack voucher's only worth $5. The convenience of pre-paying is nice but I think I'm going to take that money and put it on a couple of gift cards specifically for dining.
