Mickey's Bkyd BBQ

We are scheduled to come Apr 26-May 1. I made ADRs for Tusker House and Chef Mickeys. Do I need to make one for Mickey's Bkyd BBQ? I didn't know that required an ADR. What else can you tell me about fun things to do at campsite? This is only our 2nd trip to DW and it is our 1st trip camping. I would love any advice you have! P.S. We have a son who will turn 4 on the trip!

Need more info. How are you traveling/camping? There are a couple of swimming pools at FW, horseback riding, archery lessons, fireworks from the MK at the beach, power boat rentals,, canoes, looping, two trading posts, bike rentals, golf cart rentals (if you don't rent from an off site dealer), volleyball, tennis, basketball goals, etc. Look around the forum and you will see what others have discovered. Oh yes, and catch and release fishing.

You will need ressies for the BBQ or the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review. There's also a buffet and take out (limited) at Trails End at the Settlement near the Marina.

There's bus service (three routes) around the campground that also connect with busses to the parks at the Outpost, near check-in. Also boat service at the Marina to the MK and Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary.

We are camping in our 34 ft RV. We have a son who will turn 4 there! We will have 4 full days at DW and have 4 day tickets to the parks.

Can you tell me about HoopDe whatever show? and Mickey's Backyard BBQ? Do I have to have ADRs for those? How do we meet characters at the campfire roasting marshmallows ?

We love to fish and play any type ball.

Hoop-Dee Doo and the BBQ are both BBQ dinners. HDD is indoors and includes a floor show. The BBQ is under a pavilion and includes a western style musical show, meet a lot of characters, dancing including the kids with characters, and a trick rope artist. Both are very popular and are open to guests from other resorts, so they get full early; hence ressies required.

The campfire features Chip and Dale, some sing-along, a smores/hotdog roast if you choose, and a movie...all for free, except what you buy at the concession stand. You will find guests from other resorts there too, but usually not so many as to fill the outdoor arena. Movies are usually listed near the top of the Camping Forum for each month.

Be sure to schedule some down time to enjoy what the Fort offers. With a four year old, you will not want to go to the parks from dawn to late night anyway. In another thread you will find a lot of visitors only spend 50-60% of their time in the parks. Of course with four parks, and four days, you will have to make some decisions about what to do and what not to do.

With a 4 year old, if you are doing either the BBQ or Hoop de Doo, you might want to do the BBQ to see characters.

Also, you can do pony rides at the Fort. It costs $5, and you lead the pony around a fenced in area. Your little one will probably like that.

And bring bikes if possible. Lots of places to ride.

Don't forget to tell Disney it is your sons birthday. They will give him a pin and he'll get lots of attention from CMs as you walk around Disney.

I agree, with the BBQ over the Hoop-de-doo. Your little one will love it. The charachers are readily available for pictures and there is a band for dancing. It is a lot of fun. We did it last year for Christmas with a 21 and 22 year. They had a lot of fun and prefer it over the Hoop-de-doo.
They pool has been renovated and it has a great area for little ones. You are going to have a great time. We come to The Fort every year and our children are grown. The Fort is very relaxing and the campers are very friendly.

My Husband has sent in two replies but I wanted to add:
If you take in the outoodr movie, etc. there is a charge for
the items to make smores UNLESS you bring your own which is just fine with Disney. I use the long bar be cue
forks and buy graham crackers, large chocolate bars and
marshmallows. Last sumer, when we were there for a week, my two granddaughters made at least a dozen smores to share with all of us. I LOVE them.

Also you will most definately need reservations for the Bar Be Que and Hoop Do Doo. The food is good at both and the shows very enjoyable. They are pretty expensive, especiall when you have to pay for a child who can not eat. We have 2 who eat through feeding tubes but they say you are paying for the "Show".

You will enjoy the fort and the other folks camping there.

I am already counting the days til our next trip there in December.
