going to try mickey's bbq does anyone have any reviews on it? I searched the thread and couldn't find any. also what kind of food is served when they say bbq do they mean hot dogs/hamburgers or chicken/ribs/bbq thanks

It was a hit with our family last year - and we have ADRs to go back again this year. It was actually the first place DH requested to repeat this year. You'll find mixed reviews, as people's taste do vary.

There were hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, chicken, beans, potato salad, corn on the cob and cornbread. Also beer, wine and Mickey bars were included as well. I think there was even mac & cheese - at least my DD swears there was, but I don't remember that for sure.

We didn't try the hamburgers - to be honest, they weren't appealing looking to us. However DH & I really enjoyed the ribs. I don't eat meat often due to gastric bypass, so I was tickled that the ribs were moist enough I was able to eat (and keep down) two. My DDs loved the chicken.

We found the entertainment a lot of fun. The characters come out in their western wear and dance with visitors. It did get busy with people trying to push their kids closer to get good photos, but no one was overly pushy the night we were there - but I've read less favorable reviews of parental behavior. Later a rope trick guy comes out. And they also teach the guests to do a line dance. All in all, we found it a lot of fun.

If you've not done so yet - I looked up the meal on utube before booking last year - to see if the entertainment was up our alley. It looked fun to me, and we were not disappointed. But again - everyone is looking for something different for their vacation, so while we loved it - the next family may not.

Good luck deciding.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ is certainly one of the best place to see the key characters. Plus it is all you can eat food, wine, beer, and desserts (which in the past have been everything from cake to Mickey's premiums and ice cream). It is alot of fun and there is plenty of room to let the kids run around. You can choose to be very involved with the activities or just sit toward the back and enjoy.

Also know that they will cater to special dietary and menu needs as I have seen them do it with other guests before.

which characters are there? Is this on DDP and how many credits?

The characters are Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale - all dressed up in western wear.

The BBQ is on the dining plan. It is two credits per person.

We did it and won't do it again. It is outdoors and it was summer, we sweated like pigs. I felt it was an unorganized mess, if you have a shy child I would skip it. It was sort of like a character free for all so my DD didn't get much character interaction. Many folks do have a great time, we just weren't feeling it.

We went last APril and I thought it was okay, but everyone else loved it and asked if we could go back again this April. The kids loved being able to get up and move around and dance with the characters. They still talk about the mickey ice cream bars. It was nice that the tip was included. So we will be going back again this April.
