I have found mixed reviews on Mickey's Backyard BBQ, some love it, some hate it. Wanted to know if you thought it was worth it?
We will be going in August and thought it might be too hot? It will be me, DH, DD4, and DS2. Would love some feedback. We feel like our kids would be too young to appreciate Hoopdedoo, but don't want to spend the money on the BBQ if it is not fun for the little ones, it will be our last night at the world and want it to be great for the kids. TIA for your input

I went on Sept 06. It was cute, would I do it again, I don't think so. It is a BBQ you will have hamburgers, hotdogs, things at a BBQ. The characters will dance with the kids and thats cute. Get there super early because seating is first come first serve, and you sit a pic-nic tables. The food was just OK, it was kinda cold by the time we got to eat. My DD who was 5 had fun, but we left in about 1.5 hours just had to go. To many people running around and not enough room. I asked her if she wanted to do again this year and she said no. I am glad I tried it once. Just remember that it is outside and it is a BBQ.

Thanks, for the info, any one else have an opinion. Just not sure if we should spend the money.

If we don't go to the BBQ I was thinking Ohana for breakast?

This was our first meal on Disney property for DS's first trip. He was 8 and had decided that he was too old for the characters the minute we got there after he had been telling me how he was looking forward to the characters. :headache: I was upset because I really wanted the pictures. I admit, it wasn't my finest Mommy moment but I half dragged/half carried him to meet Goofy. DS's back was to me, but I could see Goofy messing with this hair & shirt. Goofy then turned DS around and the grin on his face was absolutely priceless! :lovestruc As you can tell by my "name", he loves Goofy and even at 12 enjoys spending some time with the characters. He has become a Disney fanatic just like his Mom. :cloud9:

So, the BBQ has a soft spot for me. Having said that, the food was just Ok. The show was good. We were there in July and it wasn't too hot under the tent. Would we go again? Probably not but only because DS's palette has grown and we now prefer the signature restaurants.

I would not go again. It was okay but for us the "controlled chaos" of the dancing and character interaction was not fun. My DGD ended up outdoors playing tag with some of the others who were not having fun.

If your family likes a BBQ dance party type atmosphere you might enjoy this. If you want a more organized character interaction this may not be the best choice.

We've done the BBQ a couple of years ago, and probably will not do it again. Personally, I do not think it's worth the money... there are better ways to see the characters, and the food wasn't great either.

Good to know.

Sorry many of you did not like this- We love it
My sons are 4 and 6 and we have gone twice when they where 3 and 5 and 2 and 4) It is geared to kids under 8 but I think it is a great value - you get entertained for hours- food not great but enought to have something and bottomless wine and beer for mom and all you can eat ice creams that are five bucks each in the parks alone was enought to make us feel we got our moneys worth. We will be there on the 26th with our boys dancing away with the characters and watching the western show and can't wait!!

We have gone there the last three years and enjoy it. It is great for younger kids who get to sing and dance with the characters. The food is the same as at Hoop de Doo Review but more of it. Also, you cannot beat all the beer and wine you can drink. Takes the edge off of a hot summer day and makes the corny jokes and other entertainment even more entertaining. It is less expensive than Hoop de Doo and worth seeing at least once.

I heard that it was a little chaotic? And that you have to be there early? Is that so? Have you gone during the summer months, july august? Is it too hot? My kids will be 4 and 2, and we will be coming from a day at Epcot? Just wondering your thoughts TIA

You are right, the food is a good bargain. There is plenty and it was good, especially if you will treat yourself to the ice cream. I look at this as a character meal so I tend to place a higher value on the interaction than the food. Shoot, at home I am the chief cook and bottle washer so if it is cooked for me and I don't have to clean up after I am okay with just about anything ;).

I think that for this meal, people just have to decide if their kids like a freer kind of interaction, if so this one would be a lot of fun as the characters spend a lot of time on the dance floor.

I know that you are advised to be there early but there are seats for everyone. If you like being near the dance floor in the center you really need to get there early, not on time. We got there a little early and got a picnic table on the end of the pavilion. It worked out fine, my DGD played out in the "yard" after she ate. We were there in August and it was no hotter than anywhere else. We also came from EPCOT that day, just allow plenty of travel time. I don't remember why but it felt like it took a long time to get there. I have a selective memory, though, so it may have just been my perception.
