We are taking my son on his first Disney trip in Feb/March 2017. He will be 1.5 years old at the time. Has anyone taken kids of this age to Mickey's Backyard BBQ? Is it something they enjoyed or is it better to save for when hes a little older?

We took our daughter at that age. She really could of cared less, probably too young. But she's 11 now and really not into characters. We also went in February, I think it was mid-February, and it was chilly.

I would wait. Our DD was 4.5 and really enjoyed it, and she was among the younger ones out there dancing and playing.

We took DS at ~20 months old and he looooooved it! I think it's fantastic for toddlers. There's fun music (and goodness knows toddlers love dancing!) and lots of room to run around. The initial crush of dancing with the characters is too much for the littlest ones, but as the night wore on and the initial craziness dispersed, it was an awesome way to get DS close to characters (he was a little intimidated in standard meet and greets)
That night remains, to this day, one of my all time favorite memories of Walt Disney World (and he's now 7.5 and has been 5 times)

We took our almost 6 year old twins. They danced a little bit, but weren't too interested in the activity even though they love Mickey and Minnie. I feel like my kids would've done better there around 3-4 years old.

Last year we went with a large group (15-20 people) and kids ranging in age from 3 months to 17 years old. The little kids loved the music BUT it got a little wild. They didn't "allow" the parents on the dance floor and one of the 21 month old's in our party ended up going "missing" for nearly five minutes. It was a miscommunication between adults in our group and she was safely with another family member but OMG was it scary. She had a language delay so the thought of her not being able to communicate who she was scared my sister and I enough that we packed up our 4 kids and left. The remaining kids were 4 and over and they enjoyed the rest of the BBQ. We will return one day but not until our youngest learns his name and our names.

I was going to take our kids during our long trip in May but decided against it because of their ages (will be 27 months and 10 months). I think that it will be a bit too loud and too much of a party for them/overstimulating. We're doing a lot of character meals which they'll enjoy but the party will wait until they're older.
