go in May??? Is it even available in May? Has anyone been to it and was it worth the cost? Characters availability? All the gory details please!!!

Thanks
Cindy

PS the boys are 9, are they too old to enjoy it?

Please remember this is one family's experience . . . (DD was 10 & DS was 20)

We went in May of '01 and did not enjoy it! The food was okay - not great, but not as indifferent as our dinner at Chef Mickey's either. (We stayed at AKL & were eating at Boma, so that may have influenced us. ;) ) The various food serving trays were not kept full & it beame an adventure trying to get more than 1 or 2 different items at a time.

It had rained (read "deluge!") but they didn't cancel. We were told that there would be more going on than actually happened, but they cancelled parts due to the rain.

There was very little room for the line dancing that they'd promoted.

We were most disappointed, though, with the character "interaction." For this event, that term was HUGELY misleading BTW. The characters came out and stood in the middle of the pavilion for ~10 - 15 min at a time. (I understand that it was hot & they needed to limit their time in costume.) The biggest problem was that the kids had to line up to see a character, wait in a really long line & several times DD did not get to "see" the one she was waiting for. She'd get 1 - 3 people away & the character would leave. Then the next time they came out, she had to run to get in line again & be at the back because of where we were seated. VERY frustrating!!!

There has to be a better way of doing that - I'm just not sure what it would be. :( We eneded up leaving early & going to E-night. We didn't have the experience of riding the same ride 5x in a row like many, but were very happy with that experience.

For us, it was definitely NOT worth the $$$. Occasionally, someone will still mention that they wished we'd skipped it & done something else.

piratesmate we may have been at the same show back in May '01. It was a torrential downpour, way too crowded on the dance floor, and you summed up our character experiences exactly. Our kids were a bit disappointed w/the dancing and character interaction. I can't recommend Mickey's Backyard BBQ.

Mike,

While I'm not glad your experience was less than magical, I'm glad to hear it wasn't just us! . . . torrential rain . . . really describes it! ;) We were the on Tues, the 22nd.

The experience wasn't the best to start with . . . then the next day on our way out of Epcot, DH realized that the pouch holding film on the backpack had come open. All that standing in line & the 2 pix DD actually got were lost. Though I must admit that she was more disappointed that her pix with the Living Statues at France were also on that roll. :(

I hate rain...and rain at an outdoor dinner would really be awful. Thanks for the opinions. I found our character experience years and years agon at the Minnie Luau about the same as yours at the BBQ. Guess we will stick to the Character dining indoors.

I guess we had the opposite experience - to the rain that is! We went in early June and had sweltering heat and humidity. We also found the food lacking, the line dancing overcrowded and the character interaction hit-or-miss. The C&W band was okay, the trick-rope guy very good. Overall, there are many other better experiences at the World.
