We already experienced the hoopty do and loved it but the food at mickeys backyard is right up my kids alley...hot dogs, chicken, watermellon, lemonade -what's not to love right? Or maybe not! Anyone love the food and entertainment here or should we skip this one and go for the hoopty again? Ps) kids are one and four. Thanks!

We've never been to the HDDR so can not compare the two. However, we LOVED the Backyard BBQ. When we were planning for our 2009 trip it was an ADR everyone wanted to repeat. The ribs, chicken, cornbread, beans & cole slaw were a hit with us. We didn't try the hamburgers, as they didn't look very appealing (just to us, we saw plenty of people seeming to enjoy them). The entertainment was pretty neat too. I went on utube and looked it up to see what it looked like before booking the ADR - it looked like fun in the videos, and it lived up to my expectations.

Good luck deciding.

Thanks for the input! I never even thought of looking it up on you tube...GREAT idea:)

We went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ when we went to Disney in 2006. Actually we went our first night there.

It was awesome. They dance around and characters come out and dance with the kids too.

It was pouring down raining when we went (the only time it rained our whole trip) and they brought out a thing of towels for everyone. That was a nice bonus.

Awesome! We loved it. It was our favorite character meal of our trip. The food was good, the entertainment was fun, and the kids get to dance with their favorite characters, how can you beat that?

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I'd love to hear details on this meal. Like...Where it is held? Is it buffet? Family style? Etc. Etc.

It is held in a pavilion over at Fort Wilderness. Something I didn't know until I got there - is when you first go into the settlement, you pick up your tickets at a will call type area on the left. If you go all the way to the BBQ and get in line, you can't get in until you check in and get the tickets, so you'll be sent back to the front of the settlement to do that.

It is an all you can eat buffet. I remember ribs that were wonderful. Very tender & flavorful - my DH & I liked them so much it was what we mostly ate. My DDs loved the BBQ chicken. They also had cole slaw - my Dh said it was the best he ever had. They had mac w/cheese, beans, corn bread, hamburgers and maybe hot dogs. They also had watermelon & ice cream (including Mickey bars). They also offered beer & wine (included in the price of the meal). The tip is also included in the price of the meal.

The show has the characters come out in western wear and dance with the children. They also have a trick ropper that is pretty neat & they teach the electric slide. It is a very entertaining evening.

It was our favorite meal of the trip based on food as well as entertainment.

Ok...Mickeys BYB has my vote! Sounds really fun for the kids (and adults):) thanks for the reviews... Much appreciated :) HDD was fun but not interactive enough for the kids. They did like the music though especially our one year old. I think they will REALLy get a kick outa MBYB... Can't wait for May!
